I visited Carmo at the recommendation of a friend who lives in NOLA. I was looking for a place outside the FQ and this was perfect! Great, funky & fun space & atmosphere and amazing food! Eclectic and flavorful, everything was delicious! The Kottu was slightly spicy and savory at the same time, and the portion was huge. I also had the vegetable curry which was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. My friends all loved their entrees as well. Our server Lita was helpful and friendly and made the experience even more enjoyable. Carmo is definitely on my list to return to next time I’m in NOLA!
The food was excellent! We both eat Gluten Free due to allergies and had no issues at all! First table we were seated at was next to a VERY noisy party and the staff was quite gracious about moving us to a more quiet table. Loved it-will be back!
Amazing experience and great service . I really like this place.
Like you're in someone's kitchen - a very helpful staff makes dining here a pleasure - plus the sustainable cuisine is so delicious!
Variety of food options- all very delicious. I recommend the Rico, Fish Collar, Ceviche, and banquettes (so, the whole menu really). Very comfortable atmosphere with reading room and movie theater in the back. Good for large groups or date night.
Delicious food! The Coolinary menu is generous and has good variety. Service was a bit slow. The front part of the dining area was too warm to be fully comfortable.
Boat to table, small catch fish perfectly cooked. Good service. People seemed happy to be working there. Will go back. Highly recommend.
Carmo is a wonderful dining experience with lots of vegan options. Highly recommend!
A wonderful surprise! When our plans changed at the last minute and we wanted something light, we tried Carmo, close by and open when we needed. It was a fantastic early dinner with wonderful dishes, superb drinks, and excellent service. Everyone there was pleasant and welcoming; clearly service was only seconds away yet very mindful of our conversation. The weather was way too hot to try a few of the amazing-sounding dishes, so can’t wait to go back when it cools down a bit outside to try more of the menu. A nice change from the usual wonderful but more expected local fare.
Great vegetarian food from different parts of the world.
Love this place! Amazing food and atmosphere.
Our group of 7 had a great meal and great service from Leida! We enjoyed the many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options and modifications available. Everything was so good!
We were in New Orleans on business and went to Carmo two nights in a row. Excellent food. Great service by Emma on the second night.
Delicious food with tons of vegan and vegetarian options, but plenty to satisfy us omnivores as well ;) Full bar with delicious house cocktails. A little pricey, but one of the best options for vegans/vegetarians in town. Service was friendly, but slow.
This is a great place to eat. Lots of options for vegans and vegetarians.
Great vegan options
Unique and healthy menu options for New Orleans! Loved the food options. Found their food booth the next day at Jazz Fest and tried the Brazilian cheese bread, which was delicious! In the restaurant, we had the sashimi starter which was very light and fresh. The daily special was a creole tomato fish and shrimp stew with basmati rice.... excellent choice.
Great meal with vegetarian options which is a rarity in Nola. Tropical menu with a variety of different fish pork dishes. Cocktails were great too. Very casual and festive.
The food was really good but the service.. bizarre!!
Amazing food with a lot of variety for people with special dietary needs. I need gluten free and it the selection was wonderful. If I lived in NO, I would be a regular here.
If visiting New Orleans and you get your fill of cajun and creole, this near the garden district will get you out of the French Quarter and please your palate with some really unique and tasty items. The shrimp spring rolls were fantastic and the noodle with chicken dish was delectable. Tried one of their speciality drinks and it was terrific.
Nice location near French quarter. Walking distance. But 1000 times better than French quarter food! World kitchen dishes. Veg and vegan friendly. We took our kids and it was literally the turning moment for our five year old who is now saying, even if it looks weird, you have to try it because it could be super yummy. And it was!!!
I came to Carmo with 2 friends, one of which is strict vegetarian. The food was excellent and maybe one of the best I had during my stay in New Orleans. I had one of the ceviches and the fish was fresh and very tasty. My friends were happy with their food too. However the service was really poor. I grew up in Europe, where rules about restaurant service are less strict than in the US, so I am pretty laid back when it comes to that. However:
1. Despite the fact that we made a reservation, we had to wait about 20 min to get seated and the hostess was annoyed when we asked how much longer it would take.
2. It took another 20 min for our waiter to come to our table with menus and he apologized because "I wasn't told I had a table over here".
3. We received our appetizers, finished it and then were brought cups and water, in that order.
4. I had to go ask the waiter for more water after we were done with our main course because he never came back to pour us some after the first time (no pitcher/bottle left for the table).
5. When we asked for a split bill, one of my friends received an alert on her phone that she had been charged double the amount. This was sorted out quickly, fortunately.
I don't know if it was just a bad day for them but I am sorry to say I have never had such a bad service experience at a restaurant before.
We are locals and love Carmo. I always request a particular table which we always get, but this visit the hostess failed to notice that we had requested that table and it wasn't available. That was disappointing.
A tropical gem, serving local sustainable, one of the best dining experiences you can have in New Orleans, like you're in their kitchen, obrigado!
Good food, small portions, high prices
Very diverse and interesting menu with many options for the gluten-free diner in our party. I’ll definitely be going back to try more of their menu.
Some of the most flavorful food I've had. Vegan/veggie options for most menu items. Really unique food
I was able to make a reservation for 9 people a few days ahead of time and the table was waiting for us when part of our party arrived. The service was slow; we waited 20 minutes before getting water and menus, which was OK since not everyone from our party had arrived yet. However, the service stayed slow; the food took a long time to come out and the waiter also took a long time to bring us our bill. Despite the service, the food was delicious--I had the "Rico" and it was quite flavorful and fresh. Portions weren't too large, either. I would certainly go back!
Very fair priced, healthy, gourmet combined with exotic flair. Gourmet veggie & vegan options, much appreciated. Great drinks, international foodies will appreciate the menu, gourmet or locally fresh ingredients, casual atmosphere. My new favorite place to eat with friends.
It was my first time at Carmo and I enjoyed the entree special I ordered. The flavors were very fresh and the Carribean taste was definitely there. I will be back.
Great food!! Healthy and delicious - good for vegetarians!! I tried the Rico sandwich (veggie version) and loved it. Also loved the Graviola fruit juice!
The vegan menu is quite impressive and the cocktails are well made. The portion sizes were a little small I thought but besides that, the place was great.
We went for NYE dinner- you seat yourself and have to go up to the register to order. The menu is varied and they have vegetarian/vegan versions for all entrees. Both the carnivores and vegetarians were happy with their orders. The food itself was delicious- but the portions were small for dinner, and the price was high considering that you have to go up to order and get your own utensils. There were also some inventory issues which I did not expect on a holiday. I think the portions and service are more suited for a casual lunch. Again, the food itself is absolutely delicious- both the meat and veggie versions of the Rico were great as was the tuna sandwich. The Brazilian cheese balls were a hit, and the house salad dressing is phenomenal
Healthy option in Nola. Loved the place
The restaurant is small and quaint with a neighborhood atmosphere. This is not a fancy restaurant but the food is good and satisfying. A good place for a quiet dinner or lunch.
Went for a Christmas eve dinner. Food serving was very slow. Already expected for a big charge for Christmas meal but the food was like the business lunch- wanton-chips, chinese noodles and spring roll, soup and orange chicken with vegetables.
We were in NOLA for a few days prior to Christmas, and there was one night when we did not have dinner reservations and were looking for a nearby uncomplicated dinner spot convenient to our hotel in the Arts District. The reviews of Carmo were good, and we were not disappointed! The space is eclectic, orders are taken at the counter, our choices were excellent, and the servings were plentiful. Nothing fancy, just good wholesome food, and we will look for it again when we return to the city.
How nice to find such interesting vegetarian food in NoLa! Take a break from gorging yourself and enjoy the wonderful flavors and friendly service. The Acaraje was fabulous. Lots of gluten-free options too.
The menu is full of creative vegan choices!
