About Carmine's - Washington DC
Carmine’s is a family style, value-driven restaurant concept with locations in NYC, NJ, Nassau Bahamas, and Washington DC. Restaurateur Artie Cutler created Carmine’s with one goal in mind: to open a restaurant that would serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast, featuring extra large portions of home-style antipasto, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on extra large platters designed for sharing. Carmine’s is the perfect place to casually enjoy friends and family over great food and wine, with excellent service, the way it used to be at grandma’s house.

Carmine's - Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
I was with a party of 10 for a friends 25th birthday. We had some issues with the service (they never brought over the dessert I ordered in the beginning of the meal)but the manager and server rectified the situation and made everything right.
The food was OK. Not amazing but enjoyable.
Over all we had a fun time without spending a crazy amount of money.
Shockingly good food, considering the unbelievable sizes of the family-style portions. They seem to think "family" denotes a family of very hungry elephants, but in spite of the sheer volume of food, it was pretty tasty. Portobello salad was definitely the highlight.
This is an excellent restaurant for large families or large dining parties. I went there with my son for his birthday, just the two of us. It is not a good spot for small parties. The portions are HUGE and should and could be shared by many. The experience was good but he found out that it's best to choose another type of restaurant when it's just you and your father dining and celebrating a birthday.
The food as usual was wonderful. The service this time was less than satisfactory. The server never introduced himself, told us the specials of the night or asked what we wanted to drink. He would disappear for long periods of time. Wasn't around when our food was brought to us to see if everything was OK or was he around to offer to help serve our food. One of the chefs or maybe another one of the servers graciously offered to assist us.
My girlfriends and I have chosen to meet here numerous times to celebrate special occasions however based on this last experience where more was done wrong than right, I'm sure we'll think twice before we make this our meeting place again. Which is.unfortunate.
Very generous portions. Food was served family style. We got four dishes for 7 people, and we had a lot left over. Nobody in our party were very big eaters though. The calamari was generously portioned, and generously cut. Thick slices of squid! Squid seemed fresh and tender, well cooked. The chicken marsala was good. We didn't get it over pasta, but it seemed a waste that all that good sauce was not being used to cover something like pasta. The ragu pasta and salad was okay. Overall, would come back. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely good for groups.
Great place for large groups and special occasions. They serve everything family style so not the best place for couples unless you want to take a lot of food home...BUT if you have a large group. THIS IS THE PLACE! We had a party of ten and had a blast. Ordered 2 salads, 3 entrees and 1 dessert, a couple of bottles of wine and had a perfect night! Everyone enjoyed the meal and didn't have much left over. Love to go to Carmines with lots of people - get to sample several dishes and it's such a fun atmosphere! The food is always good and plentiful.
I've been here a number of times and my family loves to dine at Carmine's when they visit. The food is always full of flavor and the portions are always more than generous. To our disappointment while the food was full of flavor two of the three dishes were luke warm.
Carmine's was one of the few places open on Thanksgiving that was not limited to turkey dinner. I'm a vegetarian, so that's significant for me. This was my first visit, and it turned out to be a pleasant experience. You need to know, however, that when they say "family style" on the menu that means "We only serve portions large enough for four ravenous construction workers." I'm eating leftovers all weekend, but I'm not complaining.
When we ordered the Thanksgiving dinner special, we were told we could get a turkey for $99.00 and pumpkin pie for $13.50, so we ordered both. After we ordered, the waiter came back and told us the turkey would actually be $135.00, and the pumpkin pie would be $35.00. We cancelled the pumpkin pie and ordered the turkey, even though we should not have. If the waiter quotes one price, that should be what it is, not come back and add $36.00 to our turkey and $21.50 to our pie. We will not be back, and we will tell friends of our experience and will not recommend this restaurant. Very disappointed.
We took our kids (two teens, one grade schooler) to Carmine's before taking them to a play at Arena Stage. The food and ambiance were terrific and we all enjoyed the food and our experience. With family size servings, one salad and two main dishes were just right for 5 people.
