About Carmine's - Washington DC
Carmine’s is a family style, value-driven restaurant concept with locations in NYC, NJ, Nassau Bahamas, and Washington DC. Restaurateur Artie Cutler created Carmine’s with one goal in mind: to open a restaurant that would serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast, featuring extra large portions of home-style antipasto, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on extra large platters designed for sharing. Carmine’s is the perfect place to casually enjoy friends and family over great food and wine, with excellent service, the way it used to be at grandma’s house.

Carmine's - Washington DC Ratings and Reviews
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Carmine's. However, for the price, you can find better food. Again, nothing is wrong with the food, but it tastes more like a neighborhood mom and pop Italian restaurant but with white tablecloth prices. The value does not match the price point.
Family style- sizes to share, standard italian dishes all were good. Table bread and oil was superb, garlic bread (half with cheese) was well-received. Chicken parmesan was big hit with our party (doesn't come with pasta),, penne vodka was too sweet for most.
Found ourselves ( party of 7 including a teen and pre-teen) looking for a unplanned dinner down by the museums. Was able to make a reservation for 5pm- we arrived a bit early and were seated promptly-way in a back corner near a very frequently used employee door which meant spotty wait service and constant foot traffic. The tables around us were soon populated with other families (with much younger children) and as we exited the restaurant after eating---the main rooms were pretty full with tables of adults (including a large group of veterans).
My first Carmine's visit was after a "walking marathon" of DC. I enjoyed all the carbs. This visit was to entertain family and since our party was 8 ppl and we had just done another "walking marathon" of DC, Carmine's was the spot I demanded. Thank you for absolutely THE BEST Italian cuisine. Amazing food.
This proved to be the perfect restaurant for a large group of 9 that included 4 kids - 3 teens and 1 5th grader. Food is both family friendly and delicious. Loved the round table thus allowing everyone to participate in one conversation. The atmosphere was good enough, food was great and we really liked the family style serving. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive right up until the food delivery. Then she became very busy and we didn't see much of her, though I would still give her high marks. We weren't in the main dining room, our room seemed more like a hotel banquet room, but the round table made up for that. The one negative of the night is the restaurant seemed sort of dirty. The women's rest room lacked working soap dispensers. whole place felt a tad tired. Still, I would definitely go back.
My Uber driver recommended Carmine's and my friend and I decided to check it out. It was a busy Sunday night, but we had great service, hot food and the speed of service was great. I would recommend coming with a group of (hungry) friends because the portions are huge -- family style dining. Penne Vodka was great and so were the meatballs. Only downside to family dining is that you can't get an individual dessert.
Definitely for large groups but too much for 2. We thought we would start with the eggplant parmigiana - a side! - followed by lasagne but when the starter came it was so huge that we cancelled the lasagne and struggled to finish what we had. Never even touched the focaccia that looked excellent. Noticed the next table started with the Caesar salad and didn't finish that between 4 so it does mean the whole table has to eat the same dishes. However, the food was delicious and our server was brilliant.
We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation and we were seated within two minutes. The waiter arrived right after we were seated and took our drink order and began explaining the menu setup. He quickly guided us to our decision and when the food arrived it was exactly what we were in the mood for and it was delicious. Excellent restaurant and I would recommend to anyone especially if it is a large party.
I needed a table for 14 people who were coming from out of town. Carmines made it easy. The food was great, the service precise and the "Titanic" dessert was phenomenal. They didn't rush us and everyone enjoyed the evening. I've been to the N.Y. Theater District location, and the food was exactly the same..... great!
I was very disappointed that my request for a round table for my 50th birthday party could not be honored. It was very difficult for us to hear one another at a long table. I made the reservation a month in advance. Nothing special was done to mark the occasion, and we even realized at home that we got charged for one more $$$ drink than we actually had.
Met up with a friend here. Thought we'd have 4 people, but had 3 instead. The lasagna was huge - plenty to feed 5. The bread was great too. My boyfriend flagged somebody down to take our order, but they were attentive after that and offered to package our food 3x (3 different people). I would go again with a bigger group. The price is super reasonable. I wish the lasagna had been hotter. It was somewhere between warm and hot, but it tasted fine.
We had dinner reservations, but finished our museum tour early so we went early. I loved it. I had heard about the one in Times Square, New York. We got there about 3:30 so it wasn't packed. I love the family style dining. The portions are large and the food was great. We had leftovers even though there we were a party of four. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. It was well worth the drive from southern Virginia. I can't wait to go back!
Food is always tasty but a lot of quirks this time, e.g., no orange in a pint of blue moon, had to ask for a lemon or lime for some of the mixed drinks, 2 of the 3 dishes we normally get over pasta but this time we received the meals without pasta and then 5 minutes later we received a large plate of (just) pasta. Not one of there best nights and a lousy way to celebrate our 30th anniversary with close friends!
I had been to Carmine's D.C. several time before, but not in recent months. Several experience were a surprise or a disappointment. It seems the place is less well managed than it once was. First, the men's room was a mess, with only 1 of 4 fixtures functioning, one because it was covered in broken glass from a photo frame that appears to have been smashed. It also seemed that it had been a good while since the floor had been mopped. Not a great experience to have before a meal. We had forgotten about the family style servings, which makes ordering very difficult for a party of just 2. The service was horrible, with no bread provided and the delivery of an entree that was different than the one we had ordered. When we pointed out the error to our server--and it took a while to get his attention--all he did was apologize. He didn't offer to remove the cost from out check or replace the dish with the one we had ordered. (He seemed to have only a limited understanding of the menu and how dishes were or could be prepared.) The dishes we did receive were good, especially the Carmine's salad and tomato sauce on the rigatoni dish we did not order. Overall, I think there are far better Italian restaurants in the D.C. area with better service, prices and menu choices (and less disgusting bathrooms), so I don't expect we'll be returning to Carmine's DC anytime soon.
We’ve been to Carmine’s in NYC and in Atlantic City, but we’ve never been to this one in DC. What we’ve come to expect is food that is consistently good and prepared the same no matter which location. I had a party of 8 with three of them being kids. Everyone found something they liked, and we all shared since it is served family style. We all ate well and had plenty left over to take with us. I would definately recommend Carmine’s.
