A pound of PEI mussels in a seasonal broth
Rosemary marinated chicken with fresh asparagus and sun-dried tomatoes in a gorgonzola cream sauce
Boston and arugula, toasted pistachios, fresh sliced pears, gorgonzola cheese, and a pear cider vinaigrette
Our server was genuinely concerned about guiding our group of six through the menu. He helped us the right amount of food while getting a variety of flavors and textures. Everyone in our group agreed it was the best Italian food they had in a long time. Recommend mussels, salad, pasta, gnocchi, and veal marsala. Reasonably priced, good wine. We'll return.
Most delicious ragu with mushrooms!
Not the carmine's of yesteryear. Staff was inpatient (borderline rude), no very helpful with figuring out how to accommodate vegetarian mixed with non- vegetarian diners - the only solution was for the one vegetarian to order an entire entree. Find it difficult to believe that a pasta dish with meat could not be made in such a way that some of the pasta could have been set side before adding the protein. My take is that the server did not want to be bothered -and- pushed us to ordering a third entree (for one person) just to inflate the check. Has been a couple years since we've dined at Carmine's - given this experience, it will likely be our last. There are too many great restaurants in Denver these days - especially ones that are guest centric. Could have overlooked the hefty check if the food was spectacular. It was mediocre, at best.
The staff was professional and friendly and the food was excellent. The outdoor patio was very pleasant, especially since the street is blocked off from traffic.
As always, Carmine's is awesome! Delicious food...great staff...wonderful atmosphere!
We always enjoy Carmine. The sausage was really over cooked this time. Other than that food was great!
Incredible meal, wonderful to celebrate an occasion!!
I've been to Carmine's before and usually love it, but was disappointed this time.
Went with the portions for 2 but honestly, they weren't very big. Much better prices and portions at other comparable restaurants. Also my boyfriend ran out of water (his only drink) and no one noticed. Quality seems to have decreased. Maybe it's only good if you go in a large group.
It was great
Good food and service
Very pleased with our experience at Carmines. We’ll certainly be inclined to visit again.
Eric was wonderful. The food was great. We'll be going back again!
West Wash Park was my stomping ground back in 2009-2013, and I always loved treating visitors to an authentic Italian experience at Carmine's on Penn and felt it was a Denver institution. It was my husband's birthday yesterday, so I made reservations for us, our teenagers and his father. The ambiance remains wonderful. The wine is lovely (however, the server was not well versed in their wine offerings or able to make recommendations), but the food was lacking from what I recalled years ago. The bread (a staple to an Italian dinner) was dry and never refilled. The chicken piccata and chocolate cake were both a bit dry as well. And, the tiramisu was swimming in a cream sauce that took away from the authentic presentation. I was sad to see an old standby restaurant decline. I will say, our teenage son eat everything that we didn't, so there's that.
We had a great time. Great food, loved our waiter. Every thing was awesome!
The food was amazing and the service was fantastic as always. I like dining in the street too! Hope that stays past pandemic.
Our wait time was 1 1/2 hrs. Our order was delayed and not quite accurate.
Was not disappointed with anything! Attentive service, food was hot and spectacular. Our server was great and the manager was on every task. Tables bussed, every employee was doing work.
Best authentic Italian food you will find in all of Colorado! Great service and the mussels were to die for!
We live in neighborhood and we love that we are treated like regulars - service and food always great and consistent. Its a great place to go with groups of 6-8. They also have large outdoor area. We really enjoy the house salad and the home-style favorites on their menu.
Carmines has been a family favorite of ours for years. We were celebrating my daughter's H.S. graduation and Carmines lived up to all the memorable experiences we have had their over the years.
The service was great and the food even better. We had chicken pazzo and pasta carbonara. The tiramisu, for dessert, will feed the whole table!
We will be back soon!
Eric our server was great! Perfect place to celebrate my mom's Birthday.
Great service, good food (the garlic bread is amazing!!!) We had a lovely experience for our first time at Carmine's!
Staff was nice and food was delicious. Large family style portions so it’s great if you’re looking to try a couple things with a group. Definition suggest saving room for a cannoli!
Hostess was exceptionally rude. Would think twice before I come back. Didn’t bring a mask and she literally called me out rudely in front of my guest and other people. Since the mask order was over and I was sitting outside I didn’t think twice about it.
Food ok but not as good as I had remembered, lovely service, nice neighborhood place as always
Always great to be there early before the crowds. Any room is nice to sit in. We both get the “for 2” so we can each bring the other half home for another meal.
Quiet, comfortable atmosphere. Great service with helpful wait staff that explain the dishes and their preferences, and do not try to oversell you. The Chicken Montana is excellent with sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, and lots of Gorgonzola.
My husband and I decided to try this place for Restaurant Week. Although the plates are family style, I was disappointed in the fact that we each weren't able to pick an app, entree and dessert like most restaurants do during Restaurant Week. Honestly, if we knew that, I don't think we would have went. The service was fine and the staff were very friendly which was great but the food was mediocre to me. Granted, I am a little bias when it comes to Italian food since my family is Italian and I also lived in NY for 30 years but I personally could have made better spaghetti at home. The 2 chicken dishes we ordered weren't bad per say but it was nothing special. There is a Carmine's in NYC so my expectations were high but I do not think they are affiliated and I could tell by my first bite. I am not too sure I would recommend this restaurant to others.
Restaurant week - great experience!
Excellent gluten free options and beautiful patio space for a nice outdoor dinner.
Great meal loads of great food. Service was spot on
Carmine's has been on S. Penn for a long time. I last ate there probably 20-25 years. It was crowded and very noisy then. This time it was quiet and excellent. Served family style the 3-course dinner was superb. Great service. I'm glad I gave them a second chance, even though it was years later.
We done here at least once a year and as always the meal is amazing. The service is spot on and friendly. This year was different with the Covid rules, but overall it was a great experience.
Great family style food. You will certainly be taking some home in boxes. But the ambience, wait staff, and food quality are all first rate.
First time here and it was every much as good as I’d heard, I’ll be back!
Our waiter was horrible. He kept forget orders and when we asked what to get he undersold us and we didn't get enough food. He also forgot out dessert and by the end we didn't care anymore.
Carmine's was excellent, as usual. The Portabello mushroom appetizer is fabulous, and Chicken Montana is a favorite.
As always a stellar experience. Food and wine were superb.
The evening was very uneventful . The service and food was very average. Some of our orders didn't get to the table. When they ask on the OpenTable app if you are celebrating something then I would think they would celebrate whatever that occasion. Our mother was celebrating her 85th birthday and they did nothing at all to make her experience memorable. It use to be one of her and husband's favorite restaurant. Pretty disappointing with the whole evening seeing that there was seven of us and spent over $300 pulse.
Nice time! Always enjoy the food and great service
