I love Carmine's. I visit every time i get to LA. Love the homemade sausage from Pittsburgh.Go Steelers!
I'm a Westwood neighbor 4 blocks away and really wanted to love this place. The gentleman host who greeted my girlfriend and I at the door was wonderful. The ambiance was old world perfect. The music... classicly great. Then it all fell on it's face. We made our reservation for 930p (Yelp says they close at 11p). The waitress rushed us every 2 minutes to put in orders. She offered bread then didn't bring it. We asked for water, never brought it. We then asked about the bread and she said sorry they ran out. We then received a Caesar salad that could have come from a bag and two pasta dishes straight out of a mall chain. It was a bummer the food didn't overcome the lousy waitress. The funny thing was she was eating dinner 2 tables away from us during our dinner. Lastly the busser was no better and proceeded to rush us so much that by 10:15 (45 minutes of being there), we decided to skip dessert and cut our losses. Whole thing was done in an hour and cost us $130. You could go to 10 other better Italian restaurants within 1.5 miles.
The food at Carmine's is always good. Server was terrific, and we really enjoyed our Friday lunch!
Great food, excellent cocktails, superb service. Will now be one of my favorite dinner spots in Los Angeles. Saw a couple of celebrities, if that interests you.
Rushed and rude waitress. So bad, it was actually humorous as we couldn’t believe how bad the service was. Food was expensive for the quality received. Potatoes were cold and the Chicken Marsala was pretty tasteless. Restaurant was cute, bummer it was such a bad experience.
I imagine Carmine's Ristorante once was a good restaurant, because the night we tried it, there were many people dining who seemed like "regulars". Sorry to say the best thing about our evening was our server, Jessica, a lovely and knowledegable wait person who tried her best to overcome what quickly became apparent to us: the all too obvious shortcomings: Carmine's needs 3 more Jessica's, at least 2 more busser's, and what seemed to us to be poor coordination between the kitchen and the dining room. The food which was billed as "New York Style" wouldn't last a month in Manhattan's Little Italy. Case in point: my wife ordered Linguini w/Clam Sauce. What was presented to her was fairly well cooked Linguini topped with canned bland minced clams spooned into empty clam shells (hope they washed them). The Arugula Salad was served with a bland and busy dressing which completely ruined the idea of having an Arugula Salad. My side of Spinach sautéed in garlic and olive oil tasted like defrosted frozen chopped spinach, as in Bird's Eye. My "4 Cheese Ravioli in Marinara Sauce" was covered a dark red heavy sauce which looked tired. We sort of felt it when we walked into the dimly lit and congested dining room (and not in a good way), that it was not going to be one of our better dining experiences, and we were right. Plus, the table of screaming kids in the front didn't help. Or maybe it was just one of those "bad nights" every restaurant has. Then again, maybe not.
Best vodka pasta sauce ever
The people here are fantastic. The history and care in the place - beyond! The food, the ease and vibe, everything about it is a brilliant welcome to Los Angeles and all it stands for.
Loved the ambience! You can have dinner and a conversation and actually hear one another. Our waitress didn't rush is out of there. Wonderful experience!
I am a little iffy about giving an outstanding review. My dinner was excellent, but, I felt the staff was a little off. The staff was not warm, I object that wine by the glass is not priced, one of my guests needed help and no one came to help. Because of the location, we will return, but that is the only reason. We live in an area that offers excellent Italian food.
Our waitress was terrible. Did not fill up your drinks, no bread, did not check on us. Made reservations however had small table. Small proportions. Terrible service by waitress ruined it.
Carmine’s, which is my neighborhood “go to” place, was great as usual!
Terrific food and great service in a wonderful (and historic) setting!
What more could any hungry diner want?
Classic. Wonderful service and food. Very comfortable dining for our party of eight celebrating a family reunion and birthday.
If you're looking for a neighborhood gem that serves delicious Italian food in an intimate and comfortable atmosphere, look no further than Carmine's. Try it once and you'll return often.
It was a cozy place. Food and wine were fine - nothing special - salad was a very small portion size. House wine was fine but expensive for house wine. bread was nothing special - Very limited parking - plan on valet.
Well, the food was better than ladt time, though pirtions are skimpy for the prices they charge. Glad, though, that a few red sauce places remain.
I've been there many time's. The food is always wonderful. We were celebrating a birthday.
Neat place - low key, friendly and good food. The owner is present and very nice - he likes to sample the wine with his guests. Food is very tasty and there is an authentic feel to the spot.
On the spur of the moment decided to go to Carmine's on a Friday night. Luckily we made reservations because the place was hopping when we got there. Great food and drinks. We'll be back, for sure.
Carmine’s reminds me of New York. The food is great, the service is terrific and the ambiance is unique. It is my favorite restaurant!
Overall food was good, pasta cooked perfectly, cannoli was excellent
Very cool westside cocktail bar with great food, a cool vibe, and friendly and a highly personable staff.
Great neighborhood joint- in LA area every month and am always looking for neighborhood restaurants. This is not fancy by any means but the staff was so friendly ad the food was amazing! We could tell that the locals love this place-
The food was great! The wine choices were limited, but good choices. The service was fantastic! Our waitress, Jessica, was attentive, helpful and lovely. We had a wonderful dinner. Great dining experience.
Nice local Italian restaurant in the style of old school NY Italian restaurants. The service is friendly. The food is good.
an easy place to have a great time. Good old Italian family place with love and class.
Sometimes I question the music choice....seems more like a frank sinatra type music place than a loud rock and roll
A client meet us there for dinner. He arrived early & sat in the bar, we joined him when we got there & stayed in the bar for 30-45 minutes. We talked, drank & watched baseball. There was not rush to sit at our table. Once we sat the service was good, the food was great. the overall experience was lovely & we will return. We drove about 40 minutes & we are looking forward to bringing our friends there. The place stays busy throughout the evening. Make reservations.
Great atmosphere, food and service!
What else would you want in a fine and friendly restaurant?
Carmine's is one of those neighborhood places that keeps getting better and better. The place is cozy, clubby, urban with a hint of "bad boy" history. The food is nostalgic, old-school Italian; the martinis are made with precision, and the Clams Oreganato are the best. Pastas are hearty and flavorful, meats are are high-quality and tender. My favorite appetizer are the meat balls. Mangia! Go tonight.
I brought a new boyfriend for a date to what I told him is one of my favorite restaurants. We had a great time and everything lived up to that billing! Love Carmines!!
Carmine's was wonderful, as always, when we dined there two nights ago.
For ambiance, food, service and overall friendliness, it's five stars plus....
Lovely restaurant... feeling like I was back in Italy. Great food, and wonderful service.
Great food, wonderful service and an excellent atmosphere. Terrific neighborhood gem.
Steve the bartender is very friendly and welcoming. The food is consistently good and the staff is always great.
Carmine's was just rock solid. Strange to use 'no-nonsense' to describe a restaurant, but it applies here. All the usual Italian favorites done simply and well, served quickly and politely, in a nice dark room. We'll go back soon.
Great staff. Owner and staff recognize myself and my fiancé whenever we come in and all give us a warm and welcoming greeting. Food and drinks are always great. The restaurant is cozy.
I can't believe I've lived in Southern California for 30 years and have never gone to Carmine's! In fact, I used to live 2 blocks away, and it was always on "my list" I will definitely be back again. What a lovely, beautiful restaurant with outstanding food. I'm from the east coast, and the food took me right back there; along with the staff; everything was delicious! Can't wait to go back again soon
One of my favorite restaurants in all of LA. Great food, great service, cozy atmosphere. Can't recommend it highly enough!
From start to finish this was a great experience. My daughter and I grabbed dinner here before a movie. The service was attentive. The food was excellent. I recommend the Chicken Dino. Drinks were well made (you'd be surprised how many bartenders can screw up a vodka martini) and dessert was delicious. We were out in LA for the week on vacation but next time I'm out there I'll be visiting Carmen's again!
If I lived in the neighborhood, I'd be a regular. Old time charm, fabulous service, delicious traditional Italian cuisine, excellent wines by the glass.
