Carmine's - Los Angeles Ratings and Reviews
A client meet us there for dinner. He arrived early & sat in the bar, we joined him when we got there & stayed in the bar for 30-45 minutes. We talked, drank & watched baseball. There was not rush to sit at our table. Once we sat the service was good, the food was great. the overall experience was lovely & we will return. We drove about 40 minutes & we are looking forward to bringing our friends there. The place stays busy throughout the evening. Make reservations.
Carmine's is one of those neighborhood places that keeps getting better and better. The place is cozy, clubby, urban with a hint of "bad boy" history. The food is nostalgic, old-school Italian; the martinis are made with precision, and the Clams Oreganato are the best. Pastas are hearty and flavorful, meats are are high-quality and tender. My favorite appetizer are the meat balls. Mangia! Go tonight.
I can't believe I've lived in Southern California for 30 years and have never gone to Carmine's! In fact, I used to live 2 blocks away, and it was always on "my list" I will definitely be back again. What a lovely, beautiful restaurant with outstanding food. I'm from the east coast, and the food took me right back there; along with the staff; everything was delicious! Can't wait to go back again soon
From start to finish this was a great experience. My daughter and I grabbed dinner here before a movie. The service was attentive. The food was excellent. I recommend the Chicken Dino. Drinks were well made (you'd be surprised how many bartenders can screw up a vodka martini) and dessert was delicious. We were out in LA for the week on vacation but next time I'm out there I'll be visiting Carmen's again!
Worst experience ever! We originally had a 715 reservation and because we were in the neighborhood earlier, we called to see if we could come at 630 instead. We were advised no problem. We walked in and there was only two other tables occupied in the entire restaurant (we actually knew the people at the other table . We were seated at a table in the back right next to the couple in the back and my seat was right against a pillar on the right wall and I couldn't move my right arm. We then asked the server if we could be moved to another table. She curtly responded that all the tables would be occupied snd she could not accommodate us!! That because we were 3 people she could not give us a full table for 4! My friend tried to tell her we would be gone by 8 but she refused to accommodate us and move us. We asked for the owner/manager and was informed she was talking to her mother and could not come out. We left and went over to Guido's where we were treated with graciousness and respect. By the way, I went on Open Table driving to Guido's and there were available spots at Carmine's for 7, 715, 730, 745, 8 pm ....and you get the message. The server was just trying to be as obnoxious as she could be and it worked. We will never go back there. Too many other good Italian restaurants without the major attitude.
