About Carmine's - 91st Street - NYC
Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

Carmine's - 91st Street - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Food is always delicious and definitely worth the price. Even though my boyfriend and I ordered a pretty simple meal, it was abundantly flavorful. I loved our waiter, who although was super busy, managed to keep us feeling cared for and attended to. Not sure this place needs another review, because the place speaks for itself. I’d definitely recommend reservations because it’s always incredibly busy in the foyer area, and with reservations we actually were seated 20 minutes early and waited on promptly. Always love the food and the ambience. Would definitely recommend to all avid foodies! (P.S. BRING FRIENDS OR A RATHER LARGE APPETITE)!
Food was excellent and plentiful! We really enjoyed our meal and our Columbia students enjoyed the experience! Our table was ready per our reservation, which is always nice when you have large group. Service was prompt and the wait staff was on top of things!
Table was a bit small for our group and all the food, but we managed! Worth it!!
The service and food was great, but I was there celebrating my daughter's birthday with my family and found a hair in my salad , and then in my cheesecake. Unbelievable! I have been there plenty of times with friends and work outings and I cant believe this not only happen once but twice in one dinning experience. I was embarrassed in front of my family. Dont know if I would ever go back....sad because the food and service was terrific.
The food was fantastic. Everything was priced wonderfully, as the portions were very generous! However, the server was rude while serving us our food and was not very accommodating. He was an older gentleman who wasn't very attentive and took his time in between orders. I'd come back for the tastiness of the food, I just hope the service issue will be addressed
Overall atmosphere was pretty enjoyable. It was nice place to be to hide from the cold. Portions are really large, but unfortunately that's all that it had going for it.
The food wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. I prefer quality over quantity. If i'm going to pay 35 per plate and 10-15 for a drink, I would rather have a high quality meal where I clean the plate instead of leftovers to take home.
carmine’s is a family restaurant with a sharing concept. the food is great and the service is also great. I liked carmine’s on the 91st street better than the one on times square because you don’t have to wait very long for a table. the staff is also calmer and and take their time explaining the menu and taking your order.
I’m Italian and I was curious about the “spaghetti with meatballs” an Italo/American dish (this may sound weird but in Italy we don’t use to eat that dish)
and I found it very delicious and surprisingly very cheap.
I liked this restaurant and the staff was very kind and patient with me and my bad english!
First time trying this institution on the upper west side. The restaurant is large and acommondates groups and kids, nicely decorated. The food was good too. Two things: the menu was a bit confusing especially when you are not aware of the family style thing. The service was a bit slow. Good value for the neighborhood.
Unfortunately our dining experience Was Very Disappointing .I had made a reservation a month before and we were seated in the back of restaurant literally in front of their insanely busy kitchen doors. I don’t ever mind loud restaurants, but this ruined our dinner. When we were seated by hostess we expressed that we did not want that table due to it being in the path of waiters coming out of kitchen and she was annoyed and told us then in that case we would have to go back downstairs and wait for another table but did not know how long of a wait it could be, maybe up to an hour. Of course since we were with company and everyone was hungry we stayed. I feel this table should never have been an option for anyone dining here. No amount of sangria could stop us from feeling annoyed by the horrible dirty kitchen view with the slamming of doors the entire time. Next time will dine elsewhere!
We just celebrated my 50th birthday at Carmine's - what a great night. The service was great and the food was simply fantastic. I've been to both locations in NYC, but this one felt a little more like a true 'family style' restaurant.
Thank you for the great evening!
PS. The giant banana/brownie split was amazing for dessert!
