About Carmine's - 91st Street - NYC
Carmine's simple and very popular concept is to serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast - which means large portions of home-style antipasti, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on large platters designed for sharing. An entree here could easily feed three to four average eaters. Located in a sprawling, former grand ballroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, this is the original Carmines. Designed by Peter Niemitz, the interiors evoke the images of the quintessential New York restaurant. With elements and details from the 1920s to the 1940s, the restaurant has the look and feel of a place that has been around for much longer than it's 1990 opening. If you are in the market for freshly prepared family style Italian food that is served in huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place for you.

Carmine's - 91st Street - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Went on Valentines Day.. Same great food, same great service they didnt rush you through your meal. Amanda was our server, lovely young lady very professional. And we had an 8pm reservation and was seating promptly. I would definitely return the veal was absolutely Amazing.
As per usual the food was excellent. The service was almost perfect. I found it odd that we were served our pasta with just one utensil considering it was long spaghetti. They quickly provided upon request. Also, we had to ask for grated Parmesan something that's usually on the table. The other odd thing is that I checked in and moved to the bar area as I was asked to do. A young gentleman told me I would be called when my table was ready. I witnessed this with other people waiting so I just hung out chatting with my group. At one point which was quite some time waiting, the same young man asked my name and after giving it, he told me "we texted you the table was ready". I have no idea why I would be expected to check my phone after being told I would be called and seeing others get called by name for their table. I know many people are glued to their phone but on Valentine's day, I think most people would try to focus on their dinner dates. Also, I was explicitly told to wait for my name to be called. This was both a strange and frankly an unprofessional comment. The food made up for this snafu.
Food as always was on point and plentiful. Unfortunately, having a sub-par waiter is more the norm than the rarity. Between the waiter not following up to confirm all is well with the meal, to the waiter not having heard the complete order due to the volume of parties around the restaurant.(dont just nod your head...write the order down and confirm with the table so no errors come about when the food comes out...or in a recent case, doesn't all come out because the complete order wasnt heard by the waiter)
The overall accommodations were great. I just don't understand why I would get a text on my phone indicating my table was ready when there was lots of loud noises (no problem and didn't mind the noise at all) in there. At the same time peoples names were being called when tables were ready. I just happened to be looking at my phone and I observed I was texted. When I approached the front desk I was told I was texted 12 minutes ago when I was right there in the front waiting to be called. I then had to wait and additional 20 minutes for another table (not cool!). At the same time names were still being called. Food was excellent as usual, waiters were very friendly and informative. Had a beautiful time for my birthday and will come again.
The waiter was very annoying kept looking at us . I over heard him talking about us to another waiter .the piña collados taste like a sour pineapple. The salmon taste very bland . Only thing I enjoyed was the wine that waiter first poured into a small tall glass for water lol ! I asked him fir a wine glass & he was annoyed
Carmines is a neighborhood classic. Huge portions, served family style, in a packed, loud, exciting, Upper West Side environ. The stunning part is not just that they are always busy, always bustling, always filled with joy, but that the food is really really good.
The perfect place for a family gathering. A company gathering. A gathering of friends. But also nice for a couple to eat like horses at a reasonable price, and have leftovers for the next few days.
