Carmine's - 44th Street - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Went there after a show. We had reservations and they took us on time. This place is extremely busy and loud. We were seated upstairs which was a little quieter. The portions are very large, each one can feed 2-4 people so watch how much you order. The food is very good and our waiter was very nice and attentive. This is not the place to go if you want a quiet meal. The rushed feeling I got was not due to the wait staff, it was from the atmosphere of being so crowded. I would recommend this restaurant just to say you were there.
Food was very good and service very attentive. Portions were huge as this was family style. Restaurant is very busy and loud, not intimate. More geared for the masses and those with larger parties and families than couples. One big complaint is that dishes that come with pasta at most other places require an upcharge of $11 If you want pasta. Food is expensive already and you want to add more to It? Isn't pasta extremely cheap anyways? Other than that experience was very good. Would return with a larger party.
Carmines is never a disappointment. Always good food and lively atmosphere. You don't come here if you're expecting a quiet dining experience. Love the Chicken Marsala. Always tender chicken, lots of fresh mushrooms and delicious Marsala sauce, tasty but not overpowering. Portions are huge and are meant for sharing. Prices are reasonable. Great for groups. A landmark that should be on everyone's list when in NYC. LOVE THIS PLACE!
The hosts/hostesses told our group of 9 to wait at the super crowded bar for our table. It was clearly impossible for any of us to wait at the bar, so we tried our best to stand in an area where we would not block oncoming traffic. No matter where we stood, a worker would tell us that we could not stand there and had to wait at the bar. So, we had no choice but to stand in the middle and block the stair case and the tiny path that leads to the staircase. Carmine’s needs a better system or at least not set up tables in the area that is clearly meant to be a waiting area. No one wants to dine in a crowded area next to hungry people who are waiting for their tables. 🙄 When we finally got our table, we were missing a seat, 3 plates and utensil sets; one of the glasses was really dirty and there was something floating in our water pitcher. I understand that it was very busy, and certain things get overlooked but there were a lot of mistakes that shouldn’t have happened. The food was overall great, however I would not return or recommend Carmine’s to a friend. We made the reservation weeks in advance and expected much better service.
Making a reservation seemed pointless as we had to wait, standing in a overcrowded bar area,(right next to diners who were not able to enjoy their meal properly because of all the bystanders ) for over 40 minutes. The hostesses had to fight this crowd everytime they had to seek out a party to seat them.
There needs to be a better reception area so waiting customers can wait comfortably. And so diners are able to enjoy their meal without total strangers standing inches from their tables. You called to confirm my reservation- why not call or text me to let me know my table is ready so I could do a little sight seeing outside without disturbing those trying to enjoy their meal and I could avoid having to stand for 40 minutes being pushed and shoved by people trying to get by.
Other than that- waiter was great and the food was delicious
We went pre-show and to celebrate my husband’s bday. Seated promptly at the time of our reservation. Prompt and attentive wait staff. Everyone was very nice. Unfortunately Found the GF options a bit limited and unexciting. Ordered off the GF and regular menu. Portions were family sized. Quality was ok. Although dessert ordered was supposed to be GF - served with cookies - gluten 😳
Carmine’s was as good as usual. The mussels in marinara were excellent, especially the broth. The shrimp in marinara was also very good. Their rolls and bruschetta are also excellent- great for dipping in the broth. Service was top notch! We’ll continue to go their pre theatre.
I have to say I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant because I'm picky with Italian food, but wow, I'm a fan! My husband and I shared the spaghetti with meatballs, a classic choice since it was my first time (he had been before) and everything was really tasty. the portions are huge, we still had enough for two more people, so I'd recommend coming with a big group so you can share the food and try more dishes :)
The food is expensive but the servings are large, so you really only need a pasta and a meat dish (plus salad or appetizers) for 4 people. The hostesses could be friendlier, for sure. Our waiter was great. Stopped us from ordering too much, which we appreciated. Restaurant on the 1st floor is VERY loud; 2nd floor a little quieter but still quite loud.
The only negative part was the hostess stand. Three ladies who chose to acknowledge you when they are ready...I stood there for quite a while, which made me angry.
