Carmine's - 44th Street - NYC Ratings and Reviews
Carmine’s was as good as usual. The mussels in marinara were excellent, especially the broth. The shrimp in marinara was also very good. Their rolls and bruschetta are also excellent- great for dipping in the broth. Service was top notch! We’ll continue to go their pre theatre.
I have to say I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant because I'm picky with Italian food, but wow, I'm a fan! My husband and I shared the spaghetti with meatballs, a classic choice since it was my first time (he had been before) and everything was really tasty. the portions are huge, we still had enough for two more people, so I'd recommend coming with a big group so you can share the food and try more dishes :)
The food is expensive but the servings are large, so you really only need a pasta and a meat dish (plus salad or appetizers) for 4 people. The hostesses could be friendlier, for sure. Our waiter was great. Stopped us from ordering too much, which we appreciated. Restaurant on the 1st floor is VERY loud; 2nd floor a little quieter but still quite loud.
The only negative part was the hostess stand. Three ladies who chose to acknowledge you when they are ready...I stood there for quite a while, which made me angry.
The food family style setting was excellent. The service was excellent. Compare to the temperature outside, which was bitingly cold 12 degrees, it was heavenly to be inside Carmine's, sitting down, and enjoying a healthy delicious meal with the family while warming up.
Excellent food and huge portions. A little pricey - but this is midtown Manhattan - where everything is overpriced. We had a reservation for 6 pm (on a Wednesday night in mid January) and were right on time, but the place was a zoo. We weren't seated until 6:20 pm and the bar area was so packed we were suffocating. (No place to sit down). It did not help that I had a cold and needed to sit down asap. Also, we waited a long time for our food and the waiter apologized profusely. We had an 8 pm play (one block away) and barely made it. If you are going to an 8 pm show, be safe and make a reservation for 5:30 pm.
Arrived early and enjoyed sitting at the bar talking with the staff and other patrons. Our reserved table was perfectly located. Waitstaff was great and tended to our every need. The food was amazing and so plentiful. Never felt rushed. We truly enjoyed our dinning experience and the delicious leftovers.
Only two doors down from Times Square we arrived to find our table was ready on time even though the restaurant was very busy. This was important since we had arrangements to see a Broadway play later that evening. Our waiter (Moe) explained the menu and gave us just the right attention. The food was particularly good - it was all home made (even the sausage). The portions were immense but Moe warned us and we therefore ordered two entree's for our able of four and we ate family style. It worked perfectly. The Chianti we ordered was delicious and pared well with our Italian meal. The manager came over to thank us for our patronage and ask how our meal went. The rest of the staff including the doormen were very helpful with directions and advice. Carmines was an extremely good dining experience. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone .....but bring your appetite.
We were early for our reservation so we had a drink at the bar. Good wine list, reasonable prices. We choose the cold antepasto and chicken masala to share. For 3 people it was too much food but very good. It's in the heart of the theatre district so it's very convenient. Great for groups. The waitstaff were knowledgeable and pleasant. Would definitely return and recommend.
I couldn’t believe our luck when I found Carmine’s on the door step of our hotel. Having eaten in the Las Vegas restaurant in October last I couldn’t resist it. Got a late booking through open table so we skipped the queues. The place was buzzing on a Tuesday night , atmosphere was terrific and service was spot on. We had the Mussels and Special Carbonara and both were to die for.
It really made our trip to New York . Looking forward to visiting the Bahamas restaurant!
Went to Carmine's prior to seeing Aladdin on Broadway. We had a party of 8 and at first through the table may have been a bit tight, but it was just fine for the family style dinner. The food was delicious and served quickly so we had plenty of time to walk over to the theater.
I know carmine prides itself in huge portions, but it’s s little ridiculous. If your there with a group but I was in from out of town with my daughter. We ordered chicken and pasta, I would have like a small salad, but my only option was a $25 salad — crazy that there’s no alternative for one person having salad. Similarly my daughter wanted a little dessert but the only options served three to four. This leads to tremendous waste (huge portions of uneaten food were being thrown out all around us (hotel stayers don’t really have an alternative and contributes to a rampant problem with obesity. I understand that big is a main part of the image — but when it’s this extreme and this rigid, it’s just poor customer service.
I'm sure others have raved about Carmines but this place was the highlight of all places we ate at this past weekend. Crazy busy and loud but we arrived for our 7:30 reservation pretty early so we could get out of the cold and they seated us within 15 minutes. I'm not sure you can find a better place in NYC to get your money's worth. My wife and I shared a simple plate of spaghetti and meatballs that could have fed 4 people. Couple of drinks and a bill of less than $50 is incredible. Pretty exciting place and everyone seemed to be enjoying it. Definitely will have to return!
Carmine's is one of our favorite NYC venues! Reservations were easily made.... however, we were not allowed to "check-in" until the specific reservation time. We were informed that we would still have a 20 minute wait ... will continue to return every time we are in NYC.
We visited Carmine's as part of my 10, 8 and 6 year old nephews Christmas present. Our server was fantastic. The table we had which needed to accommodate 8 people was is a place where the kids were not in anyone's way and still had enough room to move around.
I have been to Carmine's many times and this restaurant never lets me down. Being a first visit for my young nephews, they were amazed when the family style spaghetti and meatballs arrived at our table.
If you've never experienced Carmine's, it's a must try.
The dining room was hectic, chaotic, and not efficient. I had to wait 10 min to get a wine glass for my wine after asking 2x. We had to ask a roaming waiter for plates. We could not hear our waiters explanation of the 3 chicken dishes, due to the loud noise.
It is a New York experience, but not one I would return for.
What a nightmare!!! Our reservations requested a high chair and they seemed surprised (even though we had a 12 month old with us) when we asked for it. The first highchair didn't have a buckle on it, which violates safety standards and renders it useless. The replacement one they brought had scraps of food on it, which we had to clean. The order of penne with Mariana sauce was delivered with meat sauce instead. The vegetarian in the group was the one who pointed out the mistake to the waiter, who confirmed that the sauce did in fact have meat in it. The replacement sauce took 10 minutes to prepare, by which time the food was already cold. VERY DISAPPOINTED in Carmine's, and next time we are in the area will opt for better food and service at a neighboring restaurant instead.
Grossly overpriced - their pasta special platter featuring 4 different types of pasta was tempting but at $35.95 a total rip off, it was tasty but for what couldn't have amounted to more than $8.00 worth of pasta and cheese,, way overpriced. The bill for two adults and two children each having one beverage (soda for the kids) each came to $ 186.00 no worth it. Serve yourself, no staff never came back to the table.
Would never go back or recommend.
