For the Sunday brunch, the only option is the $30 buffet. We were here one or two years ago, back then it was possible to order lower-price items from a menu. From the on-line menu, we couldn't learn that the buffet is the only option. The food quality and range of offerings are very good, the service is excellent. If you want to spend $30 for brunch buffet this is a very good place to go.
Excellent food and service
A wonderful atmosphere that takes you back to another time. Excellent food on the Sunday buffet. Great service. Will go back again.
It’s always lovely
When you sit in Carmens restaurant you can tell the building was built when coal was king - and Scranton was the Houston of the world. The marble columns and the high ceilings give a feeling of grandure. The buffet was very generous - shrimp, smoked salmon, halibut -omlet station, beef and turkey - scallop potatoes to kill for - many salad opportunities and great desert. - Service great $5 dollar bloody mary and mimosa's. Only problem was soup was hidden with the deserts which were great with a chocolate fountain and various pastries. It was our anniversary and we had a great afternoon. Carmen buffet is a great Sunday afternoon treat.
It was a bit too noisy in the dining area Sunday morning.
My husband and I have eaten many times over the last 11 years. It was our first meal after becoming an engaged couple and we have eaten several meals here for anniversaries and birthdays. The food is absolutely delicious and the service is great. The only downside is that if there is a wedding happening, you might have to contend with the cocktail hour noise since the restaurant shares space with the hotel lobby.
The food is first rate and is second only to the service. My wife and I have dined here a few times and it's always a wonderful experience. Treat yourself. You won't regret it.
We found it on Groupon and our waiters were awesome and the food was delicious we aren’t from around there and it was fantastic would recommend it to anyone
We had a reservation for 7:30pm. We arrived at the designated time to find the entire dining room occupied by a wedding reception with NO tables available for restaurant patrons. There was no one at the reservation stand, so we left. I tried to cancel on Open Table but said I needed to call. I tried calling 3 times, but no one answered. I tried to make another Open Table reservation, but it wouldn’t let me because the Carmen’s reservation was not cleared. Dear Carmen’s if you have reserved the entire dining room for a private event - update Open Table.
The marble lobby was beautifully set with buffet style burnch, great selection and plentyful. Coffee was excellant with lots of refills. Staff were very attentive and ready to accommodate any request. Only thing, I would have preferred the guests waiting in line for food were directed in the open lobby rather than behind our seats through the dining room where they were holding onto our chairs while waiting. Otherwise all my guests were very pleased and satisfied with the event.
The service was great. The food was great. Frank made us feel very comfortable. It was a great experience.
Very nice staff. Food good for the price.
The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. It was slightly noisy because there was a wedding at the same time but we still felt like we were having an intimate dinner to celebrate our anniversary. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely return.
There was a wonderful choice of things to choose from. The seafood cakes were so good ! The seafood was good and fresh. I did not want breakfast but it also looked very good and fresh . I was not crazy for the nocchi's I would have preferred tortellini. The hot foods and meats and stuffing were very tasty. I topped it off with the delicious boston cream pie and cannoli's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could not have asked for more. Had a wonderful day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Always do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always great food and drinks ! Device was friendly and on time!
Food was excellent! We had beef tenderloin, really fresh shrimp and oysters. We went on Mother's Day which is always a busy day, but the staff was very attentive and met our needs. The facility is beautiful!
Server was wonderful. Had 4 of the lobster specials and 1 peach chicken. They seemed to take a very long time to come out but were delicious once they arrived. Server was nice enough to offer to bring the dessert tray over for the kids in the group before the apps were served, which was much appreciated. Will definitely be back
Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful building. I would recommend anyone visiting Scranton to stop in to see interior of this place ever if for just a drink. They also have a very cool old bar-restaurant in same building.
Our dinner would have been much better but food was way too salty. I would tell the Chef no salt next time
The holiday brunch is usually the only game in town in Scranton for Christmas and Easter. When visiting family on those holidays, we end up here. The brunch can be uneven, but this year the Easter Brunch was a few steps above the usual. The food selections seemed fresher. The carving station meats (turkey and beef tenderloin) were cooked perfectly. Moist and tender. The salads and dressings were excellent. Good selection on desserts. Skip the oysters.
This year, a service charge was added to the bill. I think that made the staff more cheerful and efficient. I didn't mind the added charge. They should do it at every brunch.
Attended the Easter Sunday buffet. Had a great table away from the buffet lines, which made our meal more enjoyable. Our server, Amy, did an incredible job of insuring we were comfortable and that our beverages were always topped off. We have had lunch in the pub on previous occasions, however our first time at Carmen’s. I am not a buffet fan, but the quality and variety of the food was very good. We will be back to try the restaurant for a regular dinner in the next few months. The entire staff was very pleasant and seemed well trained. The manager thanked us as we departed.
The history of this place and the historical decor is gorgeous. The staff is very polite and accommodating and the food is excellent. My one suggestion would be to always have a broiled fish/seafood option on the menu for those during Easter and other holidays or those on diets. We love this place.
Although the food was good, the bread good, I found the menu to be very minimal, but I was offended at our original waiter. He took our order and no one ever asked us how our food wax after it was delivered . Except drinks. He passed our table, saw our coupon and kept walking. We don’t eat a lot, we don’t drink, or do we eat sugary desserts. I had the duck and loved it. My husband liked his meal. As a former waitress I was offended that he never came over again as I saw him do with other tables.
The food is top-notch delicious. Such an elegant place to have a beautiful evening. Our server, Frank, was outstanding. He was extremely cordial and informative. Actually, all of the staff there are so professional. Thank you .
We made reservations to meet friends for brunch here - it’s a good midway point between both our homes. Last year my husband and I had enjoyed this brunch so much when the food offerings included oysters, shrimp and many excellent dishes. We even found ourselves comparing it quite favorably with the rather famous brunch at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec. This time I found myself having to apologize to our friends for cold “hot” dishes, mediocre choices and mediocre food preparation. The venue is lovely; I also have quite a fondness for downtown Scranton and the service was excellent. However, food is, of course, the main event and it was not at all at the level it was. I should also note that we went to the brunch twice last year. I hope the restaurant gets back on track, but at the moment I cannot recommend it - I really wish I could!
Unfortunately, the food is very mediocre at the Sunday brunch. Expensive and felt like it was no better than a cafeteria.
Requested an acknowledgement of my wife's birthday in the online reservation, which did not happen, ie just a birthday candle in a piece of cake. Food was good, not great. Chicken or Pork at the carving table to me was a cheap version of a carving table. Deserts were very good. Service at the table was excellent, very quick and pleasant.
The salad, the pork chop and the gnocchi were all delicious and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the molten chocolate cake for dessert.
Just ok for breakfast
Not worth the $30 per person. For fair to poor. Again, not worth $30. Big disappointment from what I recall during my last visit two years ago. Selection - limited. Eggs benedict - poor/dry. Meat selection - dry and server didn't know how to carve. Salmon - only pieces in the middle of a salad tray. After 1pm selection was worst.
The food was good, but we were a little disappointed not knowing there would still be a limited Valentines Day menu the weekend following. Service was subpar: not very attentive and forgot my wine, sugar for coffee, pepper. Also, because of the setting in essentially the lobby of the hotel there is not much quiet/privacy especially when people are coming into the building and walking to and from the bar.
HAD AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE AT THEIR SUNDAY BRUNCH.
The entire staff is so super nice. They let us sit early before our reservation time and served us coffee. That was a nice touch.
The food was delicious as expected. Everything was laid out perfectly. Presentation was very well done. I wish I had more room in my stomach. It was very tasty. We will definitely return for Sunday brunch.
Terrible experience. The restaurant is in the lobby of the hotel. The host tried sitting us in the table by the main walkway, I had to request a table towards the back wall even though it was not at all crowded. We were sitting there for 10 minutes and no one acknowledged my husband and I. The menu listed online was not the menu offered to us. The “world tour” menu was full of items I didn’t recognize. We left without eating. Never going back.
We were in Scranton to see Spamalot . We were there last year and had dinner at Carmen’s 2.0. Excellent again.
We had Frank as our server and he was great. Everyone else was so friendly and professional.
There was a wedding reception cocktail hour going on when we first arrived. But they cleared out very soon.
The menu is very good. We both had the salmon and the French onion soup. Delish.
We will be back next year!!!
Great service by Lynn. Entree specials very good. Limited menus but give it a try you won’t be disappointed
Visiting Scranton for a wedding and went to Carmen's. Food was excellent. Salads were huge. Had the short rib special which was tasty. Service was attentive and professional.
Unfortunately your electronic reservation system allowed me to schedule a reservation on a Sunday night. No one followed up to tell us that the restaurant is closed on Sunday night. This was very unfortunate as the dinner was a business dinner and we had out of town consultants scheduled for the dinner.
Please fix your online reservation system.
Great everything was excellent ... a wedding party in lobby very very loud till they went in ball room then very nice
New Year’s Eve dinner. Beautiful setting, delicious food. Friendly staff.
