It was superb from beginning to end. The bet and burrata was amazing, so was the raspberry soufflés for dessert. We also had the prime rib and tuna- greT meal all around, and Charles ( Chuck) as the dining captain was outstanding. Also his co captain was so nice and accommodating. It is hard to find the old time elegance and formality like that in nyc or any city, and it def had refined elegance. We will add it to our dinner rotation, since we have been there for other meals in Bemelmans and the brunch, but now will come back often for dinner as well.
I'm a food editor by day and I've been to most of NYC's most iconic restaurants. That being said, I just don't understand the hype surrounding The Carlyle. Service was ridiculously slow (took nearly 15 minutes to get seated) and the food tasted bland and uninspired (if you're going to serve truffle mashed potatoes, please, for the love of God, put truffles in it). While the decor was beautiful and classic UES, it's not enough to justify a $400 bill. Very disappointing experience and your money can be better spent elsewhere.
The service was not rushed,the waiter came over a few times to make sure every thing was perfect. The scallops were outstanding, the dessert an apple flan, we had asked to have it split, when it came to the table a large portion of ice cream sat on top. Quite delicious.
Lunch was definitely expensive! The appetizers for two plus one desert ,two gasses of wine,two cups of coffee came to 150 dollars with tip. the elegant ambiance and excellent caring service made it worth while!
Still the best. No other venue delivers the classic New York experience like the Carlyle. I have been coming for thirty years and the dining room is still one of my favorite locations anywhere in the world. Delicious, gracious and everyone always is impressed with the food and service.
The space is charming, but the food is truly cruise-ship awful (salmon rillettes looked and smelled like cat food and had three potato chips stuck on top), the service is both snooty and unpolished (don't act like snobs with your french menu when you don't train your snooty staff to pronounce a single thing on the menu), and the prices are out of sight, even for the Upper East Side. You go for the old world atmosphere and décor. That's it! Eat before hand, order as lightly as they will allow you, have an overpriced drink, and enjoy the octogenarian crowd.
OMG. We had dinner there recently and both the food and the service were spot on. Not cheap but very good. Our waiter Michael was amazing! We had no complaints and will be returning the next time that we're in NYC. We highly recommend.
Like slipping into a warm bath. Let yourself be pampered in the most gorgeous surroundings imaginable, with the ultimate attentive service, fine linens, spectacular flowers etc.
You'll still find many old familiar dishes on the menu, AND faces in the dining room (guests as well as staff). Total luxury and comfort in which to enjoy life's most significant occasions--or just any old night of the week, for the truly fortunate!
