I have never been impressed with any of the Jeff Ruby places - Precinct, downtown Cincy, and now Carlo & Johnny. We went as a request to celebrate the wife's birthday. The Jeff Ruby steak "char" is another way to say burned - both my filet and the wife's ribeye (the hatchet) were inedible. We could smell that the steaks were burned when they hit the table - that dry, smokey, freight train kind of smell. I've had similar experiences at their sister restaurants - I don't understand it! I don't understand what people see in these places. I've had the "Jeff Ruby steak" (as they call it) that is to say I've had steaks burned to a crisp that I've sent back or choked down so as to keep a good face with my dinner guests.
I'll never go back to a Jeff Ruby place - ever.
