My boyfriend and I ate at Carlitos for our anniversary dinner. Visiting from the East coast, Carlitos was our first restaurant experience in California and it did not disappoint. Like they mention, it was a very intimate experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. Our steaks were cooked just the way we had requested. Our entire dinner was full of flavor. If we’re ever in California again, we’d be sure to stop by for dinner again. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a high end steak dinner.
After much research, I decided to make a reservation at Carlitos Gardel for my fiance's birthday and was so happy with my decision! It's not the most "trendy" spot in LA but the food is fantastic and the atmosphere is wonderful. So if you're trying to find a nice place for dinner, look no further!
Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted by Max, the Sommelier. He didn't need to reference his reservation list, as he took us to our table immediately when I announced my name and reservation time. Max ended up also being our server, which was great as we ended up having more questions about their extensive wine menu than anything else.
The ambiance is very cozy, comfortable and quiet. The restaurant wasn't completely full (it was a Sun.) but there were other guests enjoying dinner. The restaurant itself has an unpretentious Old Hollywood vibe.
To start, we shared 2 empanadas- 1 chicken, 1 beef
I ordered the Filet (Bife de Lomo a la Portabella) which was, hands down, one of the best steaks I've ever had and my fiance ordered the Sirloin (Bife De Chorizo a la Pimienta). Cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavor. It literally melted in my mouth.
We ordered 2 scoops of their house-made dulce de leche ice cream. And the team was sweet enough to bring out one of the scoops with a candle to celebrate my fiance's birthday. (I didn't even have to remind them that it was his birthday! They actually read the notes on the reservation.)
I would definitely listen to Max's recommendation! He didn't disappoint when we told him what we typically like to drink and offered a few options for us to choose from. We opted for an Argentinian Red from his favorite vineyard.
Metered parking on the street. Ends at 8pm, we only had to pay $1 for parking.
Because of the price point, I unfortunately won't be coming back too often, however, I will definitely be back for another special occasion! See you soon, Carlitos Gardel!

solid place for a decent Argentine meal. Empanadas, all cuts of beef and homemade dulce de leche ice cream with chocoloate chips are the greatest hits.

Service reminds me of a old school Chicago steakhouse, where you feel like you've known the server for years and they already know exactly what you want to order before you sit down. The gnocchi special is a must have along with their ribeye cap.
Still one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles. Been coming here for well over 15 years and it never disappoints. You will be transported away from LA to a wonderful family run restaurant in New York. Food is outstanding and the service matches. The wine list is just spectacular. If you’re not a sweets person, make this your one time you indulge. The most delicious desserts straight from mom. If you haven’t been, you must.

Perfect night love the ambiance
Hubby and I came here last night for our first time. Had a reservation for 9:30pm but the hostess was waiting for folks to leave so we sat at the bar. Thankful we did as it gave us time to speak with the wonderful men behind the counter. He gave us the run down of specials and favorites.
We shared the portobello mushroom with spinach and cheese. I had the rib eye cap. He has the lamb chops. And we finished with the chocolate cake. Everything was delish!! Ambiance was great. Service was great. It's a small cozy intimate restaurant with a live pianist on a keyboard.
We would definitely come back.
We really enjoyed the food and the service was exceptional. We tried a few different appetizers and split an entree and dessert and it was plenty for both of us. Waiter was very friendly and recommended items that were on par with our taste. It's a small place, so don't recommend for large groups, but good for small groups and a nice place for date night.
The lamb chops were the best I've ever had. The sommelier was great and ego-free. When we didn't like a pairing he suggested, he quickly switched it out without attitude and/ or questions.

Amazing! From the service to the food to everything else. It was quite pricey since they had a set menu for Valentine’s Day but everything was really really amazing.

We dine and have been dining at this restaurant for some 20 years, they have a great wine list however sometime and now more often they do not always have what is listed, little disappointing.
From appetizer, main course,dessert and the Argentine sparkling wines & Malbec, this was a memorable dinning experience!

Been one of our favorites forever. Gotten a little expensive over the past few years, so much so that we don't come as frequently as we would like. It's become more of 'special occasion' restaurant rather than the place we wish it was, a restaurant that we'd like to frequent on a much more regular basis.
Not sure why the skirt steak - which is consistently the best skirt steak I've ever had anywhere - has to cost as much as basically every other of their cuts of meat. Didn't used to be that way. Doesn't make any sense other than that it is likely the most popular steak that they serve. $52 for a relatively inexpensive cut of meat seems really excessive. Wine list is exceptional but that, too, is very pricey. Hard to find more than a handful of wines for less than $60. However there are dozens for $75 and up; countless bottles for more than $100. Shouldn't have to be that way. Plenty of restaurants have decent, modestly priced bottles.
Cost aside, it is one of the great unsung restaurants in LA. I love going there and I'm glad they're still chugging along 18 years later. Charming, quality food, great hosts, great wine. It is well worth the trip. Just not as affordable as it could (or used to) be.

A friend recommended this restaurant over a year ago and we finally had a chance to indulge. The wine list was excellent and we with the garlic fries. They were excellent and my only regret was the portion was huge and I simply couldn't stop eating them. We both ordered steaks which your cooked perfectly and had great flavor'. For dessert we had Mother's Pie which I will not even try to describe. All I can say is to try it is to love it. We truly enjoyed our experience and highly recommend this restaurant

The food is fantastic. The price can be a tad bit on the high side, but it is a small and intimate restaurant with an amazing Chef and food prepared. The beer and wine list is unique and great for pairing. My favorite steak place. I also had a chance to try my friends' lamb chop (best I ever had), Branzino (excellent), Filet (perfect, not dried out), and the pasta (all handmade). I have the skirt steak and it was perfection.
As always, they never disappoint! Great food, great service, great hospitality!

The taste of the bone in ribeye for 2 is definitely worthy the market price. The host was one of the family members and was a delight to talk to and he was very fun to talk to. We learned a little bit of the family history and culture and was not surprised that they opened the restaurant.
We had a small group of 6, with two who are part Argentinian. Max was very helpful selecting wine, the food was excellent, service was attentive without being in-your-face, atmosphere on a weeknight was great for conversation, and everyone was very much pleased with the entire experience. It's expensive - and worth it!
It was a great place to try authentic Argentine food! The food was delicious, and all the servers were awesome and attentive! Thank you for making the birthday celebration a nice, elegant, subtle one (just the way our daughter likes it)!!

Seriously, that was a great steak. My husband ordered the chicken, and both our dishes had generous portions of side vegetables accompanying our meats. Great presentation, fresh bread, great service and delicious dessert.
We will return!
