Carino Japanese Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Carino's has lots of great food on the menu. I love the Poke Nachos, with tuna. In fact I have never had a bad meal there. But once I had the Wagu beef burger on a rice bun, I realized I'll never have anything else there . . . Oh maybe some appetizers. The service is friendly and fantastic.
I feel that a large portion of the price I paid goes into rent. It's a good neighborhood and the restaurant has good ambience. However, the food portion is very small for the price. The ramen has very little soup and very salty. I feel like it's not homemade noodles but instant frozen ramen from the Nissin brand... Quite disappointed...
This is a great spot; they make food interesting and unique. Staff is so friendly and helpfull, they are there when you need something and very accomodating . Food quality is first class and best of all - they have corkage! Never mind that on Tuesdays there is no charge - that is not the point; the point is they get it; that you may have something you wish to try from your cellar! The fact that they recognise this as a key ingredient to good dining, deserves our patronage.
[ If you are a true food and wine lover]. Give this destination a try; its much more interesting than the 4St.SW; location, as that caters to the "see and be seen crowd" of 4th street. That locations menu is less imaginative; hence less interesting .
What a great food/wine treat this place is. So friendly and attentive. Clever take on fusion , executed with delicious results. Love the duck, and the Octopus Carpaccio. Wine list is complementary with reasonably priced choices. Chef comes out to check on your meal AND to be hospitable. Nice touch. THIS place has a corckage policy - again what that tells me is they get it; that the restaurant should be about the diners and their experience not about liquor margins. Second location in Mission not as interesting a menu; its expected as its the 4th St. crowd, more about being seen than really knowing anything about food, wine or the "hospitality trade". BUT would still go because of the great food execution and the staff here are also welcoming, so they deserve your patronage.
I've never been disappointed here. Staff are attentive, atmosphere is intimate, food is unique and delicious. They offer an experience that has taken Japanese attention to detail and fused it with the best ingredients and Italian traditions. Moto the manager is the best!
We have been here several times. Each time we are very very pleased. The combination of japanese and italian is extremely well done. The quality of the food is great. The service is always very good and helpful. The wine list is very very reasonable. Happy to go anytime
Japanese inspired Italian food, who knew?! A delightful mix of flavours is the result! The dishes we ordered were as pleasant to the palate as they were to the eye. The mozzarella agedashi appetizer was amazing, we could have had a few orders of that for dinner and have been happy. The lamb ribs with penne was cooked to perfection. The sauce on the pasta was deliciously rich and garlicky. The staff were pleasant and prompt. It's a small area, reservations are recommended ( and don't be shy about cozying up to your neighbour)
Worth a visit - an unusual fusion of Japanese and Italian cuisine for those who appreciate the elegance and flavour this combination offers. Our server was excellent as usual. We celebrated my husband's birthday and it was perfect from appetizer through dessert. The bistro is adorably intimate and it was jam-packed. Great vibe.
Carino was a nice, small quiet restaurant. The japanese infused with italian food was an interesting concept. We had tried the calamari which was excellent, the spicy sauce it comes with was my favorite. My main dish was the carbonara which was just average, did not taste like anything out of the ordinary. The other main dish we got was the Duck Duck Duck which was a variety of foie gras, duck breast and crispy duck which my significant other loved. So if you are a fan of duck, I would suggest it! Service was good but surprisingly was not very busy for a Saturday at 6pm.
This place is one of the places that I wanted to try due to rave reviews. I came prepared after reading reviews from Open Table. I knew service would be just alright. The ladies were really friendly but not attentive. They greeted, took your order, and dropped the food. When we came, there were about 9 people which I considered many due to the size of the restaurant. I like their decor. Simple yet elegant. I was a little disappointed when I saw brunch and lunch menu. I was looking forward to see a beautiful union of Japanese and Italian dishes, but I saw only Japanese dishes and a few breakfast menu. I opted for a beef wagyu rice and hubby picked a miso ramen. Though there was a distinctive taste, it does not quite sit right with my tastebuds. I will be back for dinner and hopefully I got to taste the Japanese Italian food.
The cheerful person who greeted us was also our server. Her pleasant manner continued throughout the evening. We were all haoppy with our meals. Perhaps the mozzarella balls could have been hotter. We chose Limoncello for an after dinner drink. It was one of three choices. To be told they were out of it was disappointing. All in all it was excellent. A suggestion would be to update their website menu.
