Carbon Beach Club Restaurant (The Dining Room) @ Malibu Beach Inn Ratings and Reviews
The food is very good. Steaks are well prepared. Fish well selected and prepared. very much worthy of fine dining. Eating outside at sunset is very nice as you can have a sweeping panorama of the Pacific and the coast. However, it can get cold and the heat lamps and firepits are a spotty affair. Dress appropriately. Also when it gets busy you really feel it because the restaurant packs the tables way too close. As for the crowd, its a matter of taste. It skews older (no problem there) but you do get your share of attention-starved Hollywood types trying to talk to the whole place instead of just their dining companions. If you get it on the right night though, not too busy, Carbon Beach Club can be a spectacular and romantic experience.
We very much enjoyed the scenic view with dinner. Traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway coming up from the Venice Beach area on a Saturday night was a challenge (an hour for the 13 mile drive).Parking options include valets, but the beach parking lot adjacent to the restaurant had ample vacancies for $10. The bonus was the sighting of several dolphins and a whale not far from shore. The food was delicious w/conservative portions and the tab for two (appetizers,1 drink each, entrees, and desserts) was $155. The chill of the ocean breeze on the deck in mid-April deterred us from lingering, despite the heaters provided. Some local patrons at a nearby table proclaimed this the best restaurant of its kind in the area.
I do my best to dine here at least every quarter............. the view is unaparalled, as it sits on the water. The service is GREAT, the valet parking is QUICK and the food is well proportioned and doesn't cost a fortune. Where you can get pricey is on the alcohol.... the drinks are not inexpensive. I think I paid $15 for a mimosa... really, half orange juice and half chamagne? A little overpriced for me..... but it won't keep me from going back next quarer. I have been going here for 5 years............ it's the best.
Carbon Beach has a great view. That is the only good thing I can say about it. The wine list is very limited and the three different wines we tried were mediocre at best. However, that was a much better experience than the food. The food was awful. It was cold, boring and certainly not worth the price. I took some out of town guests there based on the high ratings it had received on this site and I will never, never do that again. I do not recommend it under any circumstances. It has a great view but the pleasure of that is greatly diminished by the lousy food.
The outside view was great. Breakfast was good but not anything special other than the eggs Benedict over crab cakes. Real potatoes and authentic cooking was expected. The mimosas were good but $16 a mimosa is alot to charge.
It was all about the view for me.
This dining experience was wonderful; even though it rained on the patio during our Easter brunch. We found a nice cozy place by the fireplace & finished our dessert. For the prix fixe menu I had the anything but traditional deviled eggs, eggs benedict and the spicy chocolate cake. Everything was delicious but the beauty of the ocean & the service are the standouts.
Great food. Great service. But you you have to sit outside.
The indoor door dining room is small and anti-climactic vs the
Sitting on the patio at the oceans edge.
Very nice staff not snobby at all very welcoming and friendly.
Took my girlfriend for her birthday and we had a cozy evening but had to
Sit inside as the one table available outside had no heater and it wAs too cold.
Geoffrey's has much more dramatic views but we have dined there
Many times before and wanted to try Something new.
All in all it was very nice. It's small but charming.
You can't beat the location & view! Unfortunately that maybe why the service is lacking... As for the menu a bit surprised being in California where fresh products are everywhere the menu had very limited choices... I will try again. Better second time around :)
The fabulous view cannot be beat!! Every table outside has an unobstructed view of the ocean. I had lunch with my girlfriends, but certainly could imagine a romantic dinner here. We sat outside and it happened to be a glorious weather day, which made the experience amazing. We never felt rushed and the staff was great. It would be a great place to take out of town guests. I will definitely be back.
The only negative for me was that even though I mentioned my friend's birthday when I made the reservation, and to the server as well, there was no birthday recognition.
We went there for Thanksgiving. It was chilly and they had umbrellas up instead of heaters on the outdoor patio. At beginning of our meal someone on their staff finally figured out that heaters might be a better idea. They were still trying to bring them out and position them when we finished our meal. Food was good, but not spectacular. Setting definitely was spectacular and the highlight of our meal. It is right on the beach! Food was very expensive and is definitely a special occasion type place.
The restaurant is small with the majority of seating on the outdoor patio. It has a gorgeous view of the Malibu coast and pier. I would say stop for a drink and no more than an appetizer - just for the view. The service was very slow - three servers asked if we wanted water without anything coming to the table. The manager was busy straightening out items at empty chairs, while customers sat waiting for service. The food was not impressive for the price in originality, flavor or texture. Next time I will stay at the hotel and drive to Santa Monica for dinner.
Inventive food with excellent ingredients, plus expert and attentive service, all overlooking the ocean in Malibu = a wonderful restaurant. The tuna tartare/sashimi appetizer with a sort of pico de gallo garnish rivals anything at Nobu up the way, and carnivores will be very pleased with the Asian shortribs and Colorado lamb tenderloin. Portions are very generous which is not exactly a complaint but leaves too little room for dessert. Wine list is thoughtfully chosen as you would expect.
I have been to this restaurant before and had much better food and service. The chicken on my salad was dry and the salads were VERY expensive for what they were. Also, the waiter asked if I had valeted (which is really your only option) and took my ticket. I think noticed the parking charge of $7 was added to my bill. I will most likely not be back.
What an amazing place. I had lunch there and sat right next to the beach in Malibu must be one of the best locations there is! The view is amazing, so relaxing hearing the sound of the waves while eating. Service was very good, and the menu was very good with lots of fresh fish dishes as you would expect.
For the location and quality of food and service I thought it was very good value. You can use their valet to park or park on the road if you are lucky (or early) and there is also a large $10 car park next the the restaurant.
