About Caravaggio New York
On July 15th, 2009, Caravaggio, opened its doors to New York City for the first time. Located at 23 E. 74th Street, the Bruno brothers' latest cutting-edge concept carries on the long-lived family tradition of serving great food to our devoted patrons and to the greater New York area.
Our attention to detail, in both food and service, will continue to be our main goal. We believe in nourishing body and soul, which is the wisdom of our Salerno ancestors from Southern Italy. Giuseppe Bruno, Cosimo Bruno, and their staff, along with the remaining fratelli Bruno, will strive to continue this heartfelt tradition.

Caravaggio New York Ratings and Reviews
overpriced below average food, pretentious atmosphere and quite unprofessional service.
List of specials is longer than the regular menu and is recited by the waiter for at least 10-15 min; why would you have so many specials when there is a standard menu?! Because the special dishes are the same as in the menu, only are charged at a premium rate. The waiter, after knocking over and spilling the glass of white wine, did bring the wine to replenish, however, he poured the wrong and cheap wine into the glass that still had some $25/glass wine left in it. Totally unacceptable. The food is "diner" quality, unfortunately.
Overall poor experience, can't recommend to anyone.
Never disappoints in any way! Great food, great service, and you can actually have a conversation! Not a lot of restaurants that provide that sort of environment. There is not a bad table in the room. All 4tops or more, with space between them!!! So, dining alone or a couple, you are never jammed in between othe guests. You actually have some degree of privacy! How rare is that?!?!?! Love dining there!
Superb in every way.
My husband and I had New Year's Eve dinner at Caravaggio and we will return well before 12/31/2018. The service was excellent--beginning with our ten minute wait at the bar. The bartender was extremely gracious and, importantly, made great cocktails. The service staff during our meal was extremely adroit in serving a large number of people in an efficient and gracious manner. Somehow, they really succeeded in making you feel as if you were part of a large family celebration--all of whom were glad to be there. As for the food, it was delicious. We had a simple salad to begin and it was a delicious mix of greens/manchego cheese and a very light dressing. I had the rack of lamb--which was perfectly prepared and presented. My husband had veal stuffed angolotti which were the best he/we have ever had in terms of flavor and overall texture. Lastly, as to the wine, we discovered a Calabrian wine which was at the very low end of the price range but was absolutely delicious. Truly. We look forward to our next visit to Caravaggio--which will be soon.
We were looking for a New Year's Eve menu that wasn't Pre Fixe and this was a perfect choice. Atmosphere was soft and comforting with very good acoustics to keep down the noise. Tables are spaced nicely, especially for NYC. The food, wine and service were all excellent. Can't wait to go back.
The greeting people which includes the check in person and the coat check person were very cold and unfriendly. We really thought all of the waiting staff were excellent. Food was excellent. Did not like our table felt like we were tourist stuck in the corner, even though we live three blocks away. The whole feel is just a little stiff for such a fine restaurant. We will be back because of the food quality, hope our experiences better next time. This was our granddaughter’s 18th birthday, so everything could’ve been better.
This was our second year spending Christmas Eve at Caravaggio's. The ambience and service are impeccable and the food is exceptional. On this very family-oriented evening, they insure that the only thing you need to think about is spending time around the table with your family. Leave everything else to them because they know how to make you feel at home while dining in a NYC restaurant.
My husband and I ate here after attending the Met Breurer on Madison Avenue. Although the lunch was pricey, we enjoyed it very much. We both ordered lamb shank which was exceptional. The meat literally melted off the bone. The cabbage soup was perfect for a cold early-winter afternoon. The wine was the most expensive part of the meal, but that seems to be fairly common for many restaurants. Great service--- we love northern Italian food.
We travel to NYC from New Orleans twice a year and continue to be amazed at the service, food and ambiance of Caravaggio. Coming from a city of exquisite dining and service, we continue to be amazed here. The drinks are superb and the wine pairings are always fabulous. There food is creative and unique. I can never pass up the "pasta special" with fresh grated white truffles tableside or the Dover Sole if it is a special. Sam greets you as you are seated in the beautiful dining room with their incredible art collection. If you had to pick one establishment to dine in while in NY, this one should be at the top of your list!!
The food was fine service was good but the waiters hovered around you maybe 14 of the staff standing around in the small dinning room. No privacy and made us feel very uncomfortable. The bar area was quint and the bartender was very good. Probably would not go back because of the hovering staff
This restaurant is fantastic, service is friendly and very nice. We had the special salad with citrus to start which was outstanding, the black spaghetti and the veal ravioli was also great, for dessert we had the panettone special and tiramisu, the best tiramisù I have ever had. Will come back!
Walking back to our Central Park Hotel, we passed Caravaggio and were intrigued. Having lived in Rome for seven years, I am always a bit wary of Italian restaurants, hoping for authenticity of the food. Caravaggio did not disappoint! The servers were 'proprio italiano' and the wine and menu attested to a good understanding of the cuisine and tastes of Italy. The perfume of truffles filled the restaurant and we were offered two dishes: one with white truffles and one with black. Both were superb! A Chianti Reserva was a good accompaniment. We were pampered with service and the specials were explained and offered clearly. The menu itself is appropriately extensive and a melange of gourmet sorbets was a perfect finish. Named for one of my favorite painters, Caravaggio, this restuarant is also refined, but sensual. I am anxious to return.
