On July 15th, 2009, Caravaggio, opened its doors to New York City for the first time. Located at 23 E. 74th Street, the Bruno brothers' latest cutting-edge concept carries on the long-lived family tradition of serving great food to our devoted patrons and to the greater New York area.

Our attention to detail, in both food and service, will continue to be our main goal. We believe in nourishing body and soul, which is the wisdom of our Salerno ancestors from Southern Italy. Giuseppe Bruno and his staff, along with the remaining fratelli Bruno, will strive to continue this heartfelt tradition.

OF NOTE**
in accordance with the CDC guidelines for New York City and State, the restaurant will be REQUIREING proof of vaccination or a negative covid-19 test (within the last 7 days of the reservation) to dine inside. NO EXCEPTIONS. We appreciate your cooperation.

The food is vastly overrated (and overpriced). The service and ambience are excellent, but that cannot make up for poor food.

I've lived on the UES for many years and sampled many restaurants but somehow never got to Caravaggio until last night for a Thanksgiving feast. I cannot say enough good things about this spot! Very attentive and charming staff, food fantastic, beautiful ambience. Just wonderful!

We had our first Caravaggio lunch with two other friends on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, everything was as good at lunch as it always is at dinner. The food was spectacular and the menu is immense. As usual, we stuck with the day's specials. I had the carrot-ginger soup, the grilled artichokes, and an amazing marzipan and chocolate dessert. Service was expert, warm, friendly, perfect in every way. Prices were reasonable for the high quality of the food, service, and ambience.

We introduced our friends to Caravaggio last night. It was a perfect meal. There are few restaurants left like this. Professional service, good linens, beautiful glassware, etc., and great art on the walls. There is a sense of style and elegance about the place that hints strongly at Milan. But that would mean nothing if the food didn’t live up to the billing, which it does. NYC’s best Italian food? Quite likely. It would be unanimous if it were located south of 14th Street. And the great value wine list is the cherry on the top. Hard to say that a $1000 meal for 4 was great value, but compared with what passes for fine dining these days elsewhere, Caravaggio is extremely good value.

Great food. Terrible, arrogant, incompetent service. Restaurant gave us four wine menus (we were 4 diners) without the food menu. Wine by the glass prices averages between $25 to $35 although you could get a great deal on a Pinot Grigio at $18/glass. Caravaggio is not a cheap restaurant. The average main dish is around $45. I find it insulting that we were expecting to make a wine selection without actually knowing what we were eating. Message to diner: pay your toll before further engagement.
We asked for the food menu several times but it took about 15 minutes to get one. Another 10 minutes to hear the specials. I ordered one of the appetizer specials (brocoli soup) and it took about 10 minutes for them to rectify the order. Meanwhile, my other diners were polite enough not to start their appetizers but the situation should have been rectified immediately.
We were actually dining outside but under a wood structure so we were not directly on the sidewalk. We were panhandled by a homeless person and the staff did nothing to remedy the situation. The panhandler only left after we made it clear we would not be giving him any money.
Caravaggio is located on the corner of 74th and Madison. This is a ritzy neighborhood and presumably, the patrons are not price sensitive. The restaurant's arrogant attitude probably works for most of its customers and, as I mentioned before, the food is very good. So if value is not a concern and you don't mind having your intelligence insulted, this is probably not a bad choice. You might even feel like a paparazzi and you can tell your friends how you have a mahvelous meal at Caravaggio.

One of the best Italian restaurants we've found in NYC in quite a while. Lots of amazing choices on the main menu plus a laundry list of even better sounding daily specials. Serious upper east side money crowd resides here...

So disappointing. This restaurant used to be great. We arrived for lunch and asked the maître d' for an outdoor table that was not in the sun. He simply turned around and walked away. My daughter's water glass was chipped, the waiter serving water was clumsy and spilled water on all of us as she served, her finger nails were also "black" with dirt. When ordering, most of the items were were not available- like caesar salad, and other appetizers and entrees since they had a busy night. Imagine, we were there on Friday afternoon and they were out of so many items. The food arrived. Pasta was over cooked. The $55.00 fish was plain and tasteless, the food was bland and measly. Waiters need to get their act together, they constantly mixed our sparkling water with tap- it was a forgettable lunch- a disaster- only $300.00 and we had so little to eat and not good at all. STAY AWAY!! You will have a nicer lunch if you go into any other restaurant.

Not bad, but not great. We were seated inside, with only two other tables being served, but the service was glacially slow. We left after an hour and 45 minutes without having dessert. I think all the attention was on the outside tables.

Would not let me in wearing shorts. WARNING! And eating outside on Madison Ave and NW corner of 74thSt is not exactly Paris. BUT food and presentation was excellent. Eggplant Parm, quail, pork chop and exquisite desserts made a great meal. Don’t miss the BABA au RUM and PROFITEROLES.
