On July 15th, 2009, Caravaggio, opened its doors for the first time. Giuseppe Bruno's latest cutting-edge concept carries on the long-lived family tradition of serving great food to our devoted patrons and to the greater New York area. Our attention to detail, in both food and service, will continue to be our main goal. We believe in nourishing body and soul, which is the wisdom of our Salerno ancestors from Southern Italy. Giuseppe and his staff will strive to continue this heartfelt tradition.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you wish to cancel your reservation, please contact us, caravaggio23@aol.com or at (212) 288.1004, a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Failure to notify the restaurant will result in a $50 cancelation fee per person in the group.

A grown up, sophisticated Italian with a wide variety of menu options. Don't make your meal selections until you have heard the waitstaff recite the many daily specials. Also, be ready to pay what it takes to present a lovely meal to hungry diners.

Simply, my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC. Excellent food and service surrounded by and excellent ambiance in a wonderful part of the UES. Hard to find better and I’ve been fine dining in NYC since 1981.

The food was truly spectacular. I had a Langoustine special that was presented beautifully (the largest Langoustines I've ever seen). The souffles, chocolate and apricot were wonderful. The service was very attentive and helpful. My only criticism is the artwork in the room, especially the back wall with odd drawings of faces that both of us found a bit disturbing.

This restaurant is one of my favorites except for tonight. The service initially was rushed. The shrimp in the capellini wasn’t fresh and on complaining the waiter just walked away until the manager was called. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were overripe and the veal chop was undercooked. We constantly had to ask for items that should have been served as part of the order. This restaurant is pricey and while you don’t mind paying high prices for great quality and superior service, our party of 4 (celebrating a birthday no less) was extremely disappointed.

This is Giuseppe Bruno the owner of the Caravaggio, it's very sad to read your review. Hwever you have the right to express your feelings about us, I also have the right to respond that we never rushed you, you were here for three hours, your shrimp were extremely fresh as we got them alive on Friday from Florida. We did rectify the veal chop to your liking, the tomatoes in the caprese is a matter of taste. You asked for cheese on pasta with fish, a dish we do not recommend putting it on. It must be requested. This restaurant is pricey, we provide top of the line, and being on the corner of Madison and 74th, that speaks for itself. In conclusion, I resent the tone used in your review. You could have called us personally, we hope not to serve you in the future.

Disappointed in the fact we booked the previous week and my date was sick with Strep. We cancelled that morning and I booked again the following week. A couple days later I noticed a $100 charge on my Amex. I called the restaurant and they told me that was their policy. Pretty poor since the following week I spent $400, so I guess our meal was actually $500! I did call after the second dinner and a manger never called me back! I guess it is about the money and not about building a cliental. I did not want to say anything at the restaurant, since she really wanted to go and I did not want to disappoint her. It’s too bad, because the place was pretty good!

I definitely got the feeling of being rushed at the beginning of the meal. But then at the end of the meal, nobody pushed us to leave. We were aware of the time and the restaurant's need to do a second serving.

Disappointing. I made reservations for four in August for an October dinner based on Open Table recommendations. We were seated at the worst table in the restaurant, even though at 6:30, it was less than half full. The waiter gave me a rose for 26.00 when I asked for merlot. They charged us 12.00 for sparkling water, when we asked for tap water. Will not go back!!!

Wonderful Italian high end dining but oh, those prices. Normally I don't mind paying a premium for fine dining, but this is so exorbitant it almost takes one's breath away. With of course, the usual page or two or specials that get reeled off by the server but no one has the courage to ask the prices, which of course, are hidden behind the curtain....until the check arrives.

This is a beautiful restaurant with a classy atmosphere. The wait staff was fabulous and very attentive! The food was absolutely delicious and a bit pricy. Ultimately my pastry and I did not mind the cost as the food and the entire experience was worth it.

By far the best Italian restaurant in New York. Few restaurants in New York feature such an excellent menu and wine list perfectly executed and expertly served. The staff is eager to please with great recommendations from the daily selection and suggest the appropriate wine from the gorgeous list.

Fine dining at its Italian best! Absolutely incredible from start to finish and one of the most memorable meals I’ve had in a long time. Impeccable and attentive service. The food…The pastas are their strong suit. Menu features Italian regional dishes along with chef’s take on the classics. Be sure to order items off the seasonal specials menu, which is impressively recited by the server in a 3 minute presentation. Price point is high but is justified with a restaurant of this caliber. 11/10 a must try when in NYC.

A perfect combination is an hour at the Metropolitan Museum and then dinner at Caravaggio. The service and food are superb. I had the stuffed zucchini flowers and fried but not breaded soft shell crabs and both were prepared and presented exquisitely. Service was attentive but not rushed.
