Captain Mas welcomes you to our fabulous Dining Room. It's the only place where you can enjoy eating steamed hard shell crabs and the finest, freshest seafood in Sterling's most beautiful restaurant setting. We offer a menu full of classic seafood dishes, live crabs, steak and vegetarian options. In addition, we will offer daily specials depending on what is in season. Four Star Chef, Frank Imbarlina, together with our Executive Chef, have combined forces to bring together a most exciting menu. Restaurant was clearly short staffed. We waited at the door for about 5-10 minutes before we got greeted. It took about another 15 minutes to get our drink orders. Then we placed our appetizer. Took about another 15-20 minutes before we got out. The only good part was the food was worth the wait. Service not so much. It was one server plus two managers it looked like for the entire restaurant including the bar. All in all, the server did a decent job with only having one hand. Looked like he broke the other or sprained it. Food was worth the wait but not much else. First time there, and agreeably the last. You can spend $100 at McCormicks and get a better meal with better service.
The food was AMAZING! The ambiance was so-so...but we will definitely go back for the food! The crab mac and cheese was incredible, and the mussels were the largest I have ever had in a restaurant. It is wonderful to find a place that doesn't overcook crab legs and also has SO much crab in their crab cakes! My only suggestion for improvement is to upgrade the wine list / options.
We twelve decided this was the most genuinely enjoyable dining experience we had had in recent times. Tucked away in a shopping center, it is a hidden gem well worth finding. The service from beginning to end was terrific, from wait staff to attentive owner/managers; we were made welcome. Each selection is made from scratch (NO Microwave on site!) and takes a little time. Everything is fresh, including chowder, soup and entrees. Significantly more accommodating and sincerely caring than most restaurants.
We had fruit flies join us at the table. When we mentioned this to the waiter we were able to switch tables. When the flies rejoined us at the new table the maitre d' just kept saying this has never happened before. The food was ok but not spectacular. Maybe a little overpriced.
This place is GREAT!! The food is excellent, and well worth the money, the people are friendly, and the best part is you do not have to wait for a table; there is always seating available! If you want the authentic seafood experience and you have not tried this place, you are missing out!
Reviews looked good online but when we arrived, at 7 pm on a Thursday night, there were only 3 cars outside. We didn't bother going in, not when every other restaurant in the area has lots of customers. Hmmm. BTW , I could only submit this by rating the dining experience - which we didn't have so those are not accurate.
Took my 8 year old daughter during a visitation weekend. We had the seafood boil. It was different than the boils we have had at other places but it was quite good. The place is small and was not crowded. The staff were friendly and spent time visiting. I enjoyed it and would recommend for a relaxed casual dining experience.
Food was very expensive and mediocre at best. $16 for a small cereal bowl of lobster Mac and cheese, a $30 combo platter with 3 small overcooked scallops, 3 ok grilled shrimp and a rubbery piece of fish, and drinks that were often empty and VERY SLOW inattentive service, particularly given that the restaurant was barely 1/3 full. Restaurant was swelteringly hot as well. Doubtful we will return.
This is in an out of the way location, without that it would have a line out the door. Excellent service, fresh food and great tastes. I had the shrimp and grits, my wife the crab crusted mahi. Both were excellent, very large portions, and very fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant which we only found because we stayed at a local hotel.
We had hoped to have a quiet dinner and thought we would try Captain Was. It was quite quiet. We were some of the only diners at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday night. The nut crusted mahi mahi with crab on top was delicious as were the mashed potatoes and spinach that accompanied it. The beer list could have been better but we had no complains about the service. It turned out to be a good meal.
This is not a good seafood place. If you dare to get crabs from here, expect to pay a LOT for them. They just don't cut it as a good seafood place. I wanted them to succeed but there are hardly ever people there. I have been twice, and will not be going back. Maybe it's gotten better...but I am not willing to find out.
Recently had dinner on a weekend evening, the restaurant was empty at 7 PM. That scared me a bit but we thought we would give it a try. Our server was a nice young lady and she did a good job, she was attentive and funny. The food was okay, not great, not horrible. I had the feeling that everything was frozen, rather than fresh and this includes the crab and the shrimp. I understand that expecting fresh seafood might be unrealistic, particularly looking at the volume of diners. All in all, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great, maybe fair to good. If the prices were lower, I might consider an extra star but I felt that everything was overpriced considering the quality. I wish them luck and hope they succeed but think that they might want to make some changes.
