BEST cocktails I have had in NOVA. I went on "Experimental Wednesday" and have rarely been so impressed by a bar's creative mixology, not to mention the craft skill put into the presentation.
Considering how small and intimate the space is, they've done an amazing job adhering to COVID-19 health standards.
I sadly never went before quarantine so I can't speak to the "normal" atmosphere of the place but as it is now, it is a mellow, mysterious spot perfect for an intimate evening.
The theming is unique and whimsical. In case you haven't studied their website yet, the name is taken from the mythic inventor of the donut, a sea captain who stuck his mother's sweet roll on one of the spokes of the ship's wheel so he could stay on course and eat, creating the iconic pastry shape. They even serve donuts on the small plate menu!
This is an amazing find (quite literally- my date and I wandered around the dark and empty Elizabeth's Counter for a couple minutes before finding the secret flag doorbell, which made it all the more electric when the wooden wall slid open).

We visited this speakeasy for our 10 year wedding anniversary. I didn’t tell my husband before hand and he was surprised to say the least! The drinks are so tasty and strong. The service was top notch, they even set up champagne toast for us before we got there! Our server answered all of our questions and talked to us for a bit. So nice and very knowledgeable.

All staff wore masks, tables were spaced out and they had some sort of uv filter in the restaurant so we felt very safe.

If I had to pick a flaw it was the corn nuts - you can get a huge bag for $1 so I wouldn’t recommend those but we had the crab hush puppies and the pork belly, both very good. We enjoyed the cocktails more than the food which was the point anyway! Definitely would recommend a visit and we’ll be back for sure.

As always, Captain Gregory's is a true date night treat... even in the midst of a pandemic, they manage to keep the atmosphere, mood, and drinks on point just with fewer tables making it even more moody! We always come for the drinks, but the doughnuts are a treat. With Elizabeth's Counter being next door now, we were worried our fav snack would be either gone or taste different. Happy to report that everything is still on point! Thanks for a great time CG! We'll be back!

The service was fabulous. Attentive and personal yet very relaxed and casual. We will return again as the cocktails were amazing. The food was very good although it was not enough to be a meal. We will be back again for drinks and some snacking. A strong recommendation and a must try.

Realize you’re paying for a fun location. This is a fun place to go for something different but not a place to visit regularly. I would recommend it for that. It’s too pricey for what you get. The dinks are good but not $15 good. The Majestic has a better bang for the buck if they reopen. Food is pricey too. The table next to us was obnoxiously loud but I can’t fault the bar for that. They were just obnoxious people.

Such a fun concept! Quality craft cocktails, fully curated around a different theme or concept. You can tell a lot of thought goes into what they prepare. Not into what they have on the cocktail menu? No worries, tell them liquors and flavors you like and they will personalize a cocktail for you. The small bites offered are just as thought out. We’ll be back soon!

This was our first night out in Northern Virginia in 3 months. So we had to make Captain Gregory’s a stop. The service was 5-Stars. The drinks - 5-Stars. The tapas - you guessed it. 5-Stars. We chatted it up with our neighboring table, comparing our brilliant selections. This was our 4th date here and as unique as the first. WE’LL BE BACK!

What an incredible, intimate, and unique place! Make sure to research out to find the entrance, (which was little hard to find at first, but when we did added to the whole experience!) Once you get in, expect to be greeted with friendly, welcoming, and very knowledgeable staff. The drinks were phenomenal, fairly priced for their quality, and donuts out of this world. If you’re ever in DC, make sure this is a spot you hit!

I highly recommend this speakeasy to anyone looking for something new and special in the Alexandria area. It is located next to Mason Social, another favorite restaurant of mine. But, Captain Gregory's stands on its own as a more intimate setting - it has no windows and a secret entrance. The cocktails will knock your socks off. The food, too, is amazing. I recommend the pork belly, Brussels sprouts, and crab hushpuppies. Split them with friends for a delightful cocktail hour.

In this environment, I felt very safe with the employees wearing masks and the other patrons quite a distance away. Not knowing what to expect on our first visit, we were very pleased with the food, both meat and vegetarian options. The drinks were AMAZING! We chose off the menu for our first one, but then asked the bartender to create something based on our inputs. I can't express how pleased we all were with what he was able to serve us. We've already rebooked for another visit with additional friends.

This was a funky little find of a place that we wish we'd found sooner. We will definitely be back. Music but not too loud, other people but not too many, great drinks and so many more to try. Well worth the extra price given the creativity and unique flavor combos. Most impressive on entry was just the whiff of fresh herbs and citrus on coming in the door. Grab a friend and go!
