My MIL is in town and wanted lobster. We all left pleasantly stuffed!
I treated my mother to Sunday Brunch and we absolutely loved it. The food and desserts were very good and fresh and plentiful. We will be coming back again.
Captain Bill's is our favorite local restaurant. It's been consistently excellent for decades. I don't know what else to say.
Delicious brunch with great selection...beautiful view as well!
Love Captain Bill’s, we got married at the Bayview house and regularly have dinner at the restaurant on special occasions. The food is delicious and the staff is super friendly with a great atmosphere.
Had a surprise 30th birthday dinner for my son and am so happy I chose Captain Bills. Service was excellent, food was delicious. There were 12 of us and all had great reviews on the food and service. We weren't rushed at all and truly appreciated that as we had plenty of time for conversation. Would definitely recommend Captain Bills for all your dining needs.
Flounder stuffed with crab meat was delicious. I haven't had it in years and it was such a great
choice. My sister and brother in law were on a "special diet" and requested their food with specific instructions. My sister requested scallops with spinach which she was very happy with. My brother in law had duck with no sauce and thought it was perfect. Mom had swordfish and because she ordered off the "special menu" thought it was a little on the thin side. However
I have ordered the swordfish off the menu a few times and it was thicker and perfect. We always choose this restaurant for our birthdays because it is always delicious! Crabmeat cocktail was
generous, lobster bisque great (as usual), crab cakes also great. We can't wait to go back!
Lets not forget it's so nice to have a meal with a table that has a tablecloth, cloth napkins and a view!
The Sunday brunch food quality was that of a cafeteria the selection was very limited to say the least and the quality was poor . On the bright side the service was excellent the waitresses did the best they can with what they had to deal with .Lots of Noisey young children this is not the place to go for a Sunday adult brunch
I've been here several times and the food is always great and I love the view.
This was our 1st time to Captain Bills. I had no expectations but my wife and friends all agreed that this is a restaurant worth coming back to. The fish was fresh & delicious as was the vegetable provided as part of our dinner. My wife and I shared a salad to start which was split in the kitchen which was also excellent and plenty for the 2 of us. This restaurant is a hidden gem.
my go to restaurant , have to say captain bills stacks up with best restaraunts foodwise but a superior value to most.always a special menu on top of the normal one, dont know if ive ever eaten off the regular menu .always something of interest on special menu .the first seafood restaurant ive ever eaten at all winter without a bad meal
I've eaten at Captain Bill's numerous times and have never been disappointed. They have a nice sized menu with plenty of options as well as, a specials menu. The service has always been friendly and professional, they don't rush you either. The view of the bay is really pretty and on a nice evening, it can really make the entire experience all the more enjoyable.
A great restaurant and one you should not miss. The best prime rib ever!
We went for Sunday brunch. It took a while for someone to come over to our table. One of our party had a Bloody Mary and they said it was "just okay". They said it was clear it was made from a can and not the real thing. The brunch was average. The food was warm and not very exciting. Perhaps we should have ordered off the menu. I would consider going back and trying the regular menu, but I'm not going to go out of my way to go in the near future.
Eh!!! Food is not as good as I expected it to be.
Great Meal waitress and chef very accommodating for Gluten Free dinner!
Gorgeous view and good food. Not much more you can ask for. The view was made even better when the snow started. Great night all around.
The food and ambiance were excellent. Only concern, not quite a complaint, was the rather pricey wine list, specially the reds. Other than that good location, good service, very fresh food.
Been to Captain Bill's several times but this was, by far, the worst experience. There's a pattern to the service, and couple appear to take the backseat to larger parties. My wife and I finished our meal, the bus boy took our plates and we sat for nearly 25 minutes without our waitress ever returning to ask if we'd like to see a dessert menu. In fact, she never returned. She was focused on the larger birthday party to our immediate left. I flagged the evening host for our bill, who was gracious and apologetic. Tip matched the service...
It was a great experience with delicious food
It was great we love this place
What should have been a carefree & enjoyable celebration of my milestone birthday at Captain Bill’s turned out to be anything but. Based on what transpired yesterday, I'm withdrawing my favorable review of the restaurant that I submitted in Oct 2016. First, why OpenTable has Special Occasion & Request selections on the booking page – when the restaurant ignores it – seems to be a waste of time. I requested that we be seated at a table along the window (overlooking the water) & noted that our visit was to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived at our scheduled seating, the hostess told us that there were no tables available along the window & that we could wait or sit at one of booths by the parking lot window. Not wanting to wait, we reluctantly sat at the booth. What irritated me most about the seating was that there was an empty table by the window that remained empty during the entire time that we were there. (As an aside, despite all the glowing candles @ the empty tables, ours was never lit.) For my meal, I ordered Surf and Turf & asked that my steak be made medium – not medium rare. When the food arrived, I discovered that my steak was so raw that it could have walked away from the table. The server agreed the steak was undercooked & carted off my steak on a separate plate so that I could at least enjoy the lobster tail. As for the lobster; it was over-cooked & rubbery. I even had a hard time cutting through the meat w/my steak knife. Furthermore, we were never asked if we wanted a second glass of wine & there was never any mention of my birthday. (Note: 2 weeks prior, when I mentioned to a competing restaurant that we were celebrating my wife’s birthday, the server came to our table with a candled dessert. For that act of kindness & great customer service, I gave the server a 40% tip.) As for Captain Bill’s, needless to say, we left without ordering dessert. Not only did I waste $145, but I'll never get back what should have been a special night out.
Had a lovely time here meeting a friend for lunch. My shrimp cocktail was very fresh and the broiled salmon was excellent, cooked just perfectly. The dessert portion of tiramisu was just right....not too big and not too small and was also delicious. I have been here numerous times with an organization for their fundraisers. Have never had a problem here on any level. The staff are competent and could not be nicer. I recommend the place highly.
Food was delicious and gorgeous view. Would definitely go back
Classic LI Waterfront. Class from start to finish. Jim Fort Salonga
It was a friend’s birthday and our food was very good. We inquired about mussels, as they were not on the menu, and our waitress checked, and brought us the mussels for an appetizer. They were so delicious - the sauce was amazing, (we are all Beach residents and know what mussels should taste like), and we all appreciated our server’ attention! As usual, great service and food!
Food delicious. Service is amazing. Waitress saw me make a face at my appetizer and came right over to my table. A great restaurant with a long standing great reputation.
We had our 50th wedding anniversary at Captain Bills and everything went well, the food, drink, bartender and waitresses were fantastic. We went back this Sunday for dinner and everything was just as great as our special day.
Consistently good food-better than Restaurant Week menus at other eateries. Great for lunch, dining room faces the Great South Bay.
Blackened tuna, salmon, mussels, chopped salad, shrimp with linguini etc etc ALL GOOD. Service friendly; waitstaff are accommodating and accessible.
The food was great, staff was courteous and a beautiful view!
The food was excellent! Everyone was quite friendly. Out reservation was right on time.
Our waitress was absolutely lovely.
Seafood was fresh, service was great, loved the waterfront view.
I haven't been there in 40 yrs. When I saw they were participating in restaurant week.Thought why not. My mom got bake clams for appetizer, said they were great with plenty of clams.I got mussel portion was small bowl.Which would have been ok if mussel were large but they were very tiny.Sauce was excellent, but more bread than mussels.Mom ordered seafood platter was good ,I Got steak requested medium rare/rare .It was sliced steak 1/2 was very well done.Took home for the dog. Both desserts were good don't usually eat dessert .But I was hungry. I live in Lindenhurst, 20 minute radius from my house 50/60 restaurants. Is Captain Bill's worth it not in my book
Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about our experience last week at Captain Bill's. Our server barely serviced us, in fact I would have thought she was a phantom as we barely saw her or spoke to her, the only reason we knew she existed was due to the rude comments made when asking her recommendation between the tuna or the flat iron steak, "You know there two different meats right? One's fish...".
Our waters didn't get refilled till the bill was being paid. The food and plating screamed mass produced wedding food, it all looked and tasted the same and maybe an extra glass of beer or wine would have helped with the taste but we weren't even important enough to be checked on for an additional drink order.
Marguerite you did yourself and the restaurant a disservice, as maybe we would have let the bad food slide, but with even worse service, we will never be back.
No ambience at all. Seating and service erratic.
Overpriced . $ 50 for a sirloin steak with 3 potatoes and carrots.
If I’m going to spend $150 next time I’ll go to Tellers!
Overpriced and overrated!
very happy find. Never leave unhappy always enjoy a great meal and everyone agrees. Its one of the best fish Restaurants in Long Island.
We visited Captain Bill's during Restaurant Week. We had a great meal, the food was delicious, and at very reasonable price. This was an awesome way to visit different restaurants since we have just moved to the area.
They sat us right away, and the waitress (Kathryn I believe), was very attentive, nice and informative. Drinks, appetizers & dinner all came promptly. Dessert was delicious and the four of us had no problems with our meals. We’ve come to Captain Bills for many occasions and I never disappointed.
My family and I visited Captain Bill’s during Restaurant Week - 2018. My husband and I have frequented this restaurant many times over the years and have always enjoyed it. On this last visit, the food was great and the service was good but because it was crowded, we waited a long time for the dessert course. Still, it was worth the wait! I definitely recommend this restaurant whether for a special occasion or just an everyday dining experience.
