About Caprice Bistro
Thierry and Patricia Moity were previous owners of Patou Bistro in Charlotte, NC and Cafe de Bruxelles in New York City.
Delight in Chef Thierry Moity's traditional French cuisine. Chef Moity, who has been cooking since age 13 in some of the finest French restaurants in Europe and New York City. The French cuisine is influenced by a combination of traditions-Patricia comes from the northern part of France near the Belgium border, while Thierry's origins are deeply rooted in the central provinces of the country.
According to Chef Moity, the food is served fast paced and in generous portions." I want everyone to feel welcome in my restaurant". We are working against the stereotype that French food must be intimidating and expensive.

Caprice Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Our waiter, Jay, always provides excellent recommendations and pairings. Chef Theiry never disappoints. Having lived in Wilmington for over 15 years, Caprice remains our favorite. Every dish is wonderful. Our favorites are the Mussels Mariniere, Salmon, Duck Confit, and Beef Bourguignon. Specials are always a treat. Caprice is the standard by which we judge all restaurants, and few live up to this standard. Enjoy.
My girlfriend and I went there for my birthday. I have been several times before and have never had a meal that I did not thoroughly enjoy....this visit was no exception, outstanding food!!! My gho to in Wilmington when I know I don't want to waste time and money on other restaurants...
We were visiting the Wilmington area just for second time. This had good reviews online and we enjoy French food so thought we would try. When we called for reservations they were very friendly and accommodated our time preference. When we arrived, equally friendly and offered two different tables (as opposed to those who put you in back and wait for you to ask to be changed!). I am basing my just "good" rating for food on the main course, which we both had duck confit. The appetizers we had, veal sweetbreads and the calamari (which were very tin rings) were excellent. But, the main course was lacking. The menu said orange sauce, but it did not have any sauce on it. Must have just cooked with it, leaving the duck rather dry. It was also just served with a scoop of mixed cold salad, which also lacked culinary presence on the dish. Perhaps if we had a difference main course, we would have given it a higher rating.
Every time we come here we are reminded that we don't come often enough. Such a comfortable dining experience with the French flair but not overdone, in true bistro fashion. The Waterzooi was absolutely delightful, as was the local fish special. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and un-intrusive.
Always great food that takes us back to Europe, but served in a relaxing atmosphere. The menu presented difficulties in down selecting what we’d have that evening. Definitely have to come more often so we can try each dish. Onion tart was exquisite. Rabbit sausage was extremely well balanced in its seasoning. Short ribs were tender and melted in your mouth. Wonderful.
We've dined here before and always found it to be excellent. Friday evening must have been an off night. Appetizers arrived the same time as the first course, with entree' being served to quickly -- pacing was definitely off. Two of the four entrees were very good (the Waterloo), the my salmon was way overcooked and hence dry, the trout special was also dry.
It was especially disappointing since we brought out of town guests and had set high expectations. Will give it another chance based on earlier experiences; but until we try it again, I probably wouldn't recommend it to others.
This was our 2nd visit to this restaurant and in both cases we've been pleased with both the food offerings and the actual food itself. Our table had a mix of fish and lamb.. all dishes were prepared perfectly and with a very nice presentation. Beware of the deserts.. they are very dangerous! Highly recommend however be prepared to talk loudly if it is crowded.
We live in the Chicago area and visit friends in Wilmington every year. Caprice is not a bistro in name only. It is truly a French bistro in every way. The food is totally authentic and we are so happy to experience this fine cuisine every year. Wilmington, you are extremely fortunate to have this gem in your fine city. Stand outs--the baguette, pâtés, daily sausage, steak frites, pork Normandie, and lamb shank. Perfect profiteroles, too! It was our fourth year in a row and we love it every time!
When visiting Wilmington we always have to have at least one evening meal at the Caprice Bistro.......My wife and I fell in love with this French restaurant many years ago and would not think of missing out on their wonderful escargot, rabbit provincial, the many fresh fish dishes cooked to perfection, a more than admirable wine cellar, to us it’s like revisiting Paris........put it on your must visit list, you will not be disappointed ..........
First time using OpenTable: easy and quick. Will be using it from now on. Caprice Bistro is one of my favs. Never disappoints. Consistently great and authentic meals. Service is always great as well. The staff is trained to answer all your questions about the meals including ingredients and how it is prepared. You feel very well taken care of there without the staff being overbearing. So why aren’t you making your reservations now?
The food was very authentic, down to the mayo and frites. I wish the duck had a bit more seasoning, it didn't have a gamey taste, but it was missing something. Overall meal was very pleasing. We had a table upstairs. It felt cozy and private. The artwork and etched design on our table made me appreciate their attention to detail. It's the little things like that which will bring us back.
