My husband and I enjoyed a romantic evening celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The ambiance was wonderful and the servers did not rush us at all. It was a wonderful evening!
I've been going to Capriccio for 34 years...sometimes with large gaps in time (entirely due to lack of proximity and budget constraints). I'll say this about Capriccio: this restaurant is easily top 3 in the classic great restaurants of RI. One could easily argue that it's #1. The consistency of delicious food, impeccable service and quiet elegant atmosphere hasn't changed a bit in the 34 years I've been coming here. I'll bet that it probably hasn't changed since the place opened 42 years ago.
Let's start with the servers. I'd guess the average age is somewhere in the mid-60's. The server attending to my wife and I recently was probably in his mid-40's and both of us thought, "hmm...isn't he a little young to be a server here?"The staff is VERY well trained and quite attentive and that translates into one important element necessary for a great dining experience.
The food is classic Italian with the best ingredients. I've eaten everything from snails to beef tenderloin and salads to pasta. It's all great. I had a Veal Parmigiana two nights ago that (no contest) is the best I've had in 52 years. It was not even close. I have no idea how they did it, but you could have cut it w/ a fork...and...it covered the majority of a very large plate. It should have easily been 2 meals for me, but I just couldn't stop eating it. Their table-side cooking is a spectacle you must experience at least once. The fact is, all of what they offer is culinary excellence. Add impeccable service and a beautiful, quiet atmosphere and you have a stellar dining experience.
Valet parking and coat check are convenient (but you would have expected that at a place like this).
You MUST go to Cappriccio's. If you go once, you'll keep going back.
The food is always delicious and fresh. We were attending PPAC and they were very accommodating and had a Prix fix menu if we wanted it. The wait staff was attentive and polite.
Highly recommended. We experienced a fabulous evening as we always do. We were going to see Tony Bennett after dinner so parking was perfect and just a short walk to the theater . The special theater menu is also excellent and very reasonably.
Capriccio's is a top tier restaurant. The food is excellent and the prices are comparable to any top restaurant in the area. The ambiance is lovely and the wait staff is friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. Not too many restaurants can boast such a recommendation after 30+ years. Love Capriccio's!
Enjoyed the experience. Good and service top notch
The whole evening was a disappointment from start to finish. I live in downtown Providence and dine out often; the service was the least caring and definitely the least luxurious I’ve experienced. The server, who never gave his name, was rude, inattentive, and didn’t want to be bothered. The food and cocktails were mediocre and attention to detail was missing in the presentation and guest experience.
Capriccio's delivers again. This is my hands down favorite restaurant and there was no place I would rather spend my 30th birthday. Food was amazing, ambiance is always excellent, and the service is stellar.
Awesome restaurant!! Great food!! Great Service!! Well worth the trip into Providence 👍👍
waiter was quite attentive, hospitable, good for food recommendation. Food, as usual, was very good. The only not so good comment I heard was that the ladies room was not too clean
Great food, friendly staff, and cozy romantic atmosphere.
Love the place. Food and service is always great. Consistency is key to fine dining and they do it right.
Excellent in every way. Really enjoyed the evening. Food selection and quality were top notch. Will definitely come back.
The valet workers were totally rude. On the way in, which set the tone for me. Also the host wasn’t much friendlier. The waiter was very nice and the food was pretty good. Although scallops risotto, scallops perfectly seared but over seasoned. Very salty. And the risotto was mushy and bland. Then had to deal with rude valet again on the way out. They were chatting with each other and barely looked up when we came out, acted annoyed that we were bothering them.
Also, not a fan of the down in the basement location, made worse by the tacky plastic flowers all over the room.
Perfect dinner. Best veal Parm I’ve ever had. They prepared a tomato sauce for me as I am allergic to onion.
Our waiter was wonderful and had a great sense of humor.
The food was amazing, our waiter was friendly and wonderful!
Always great food. The service was impeccable. We always feel that we are treated so well
As for the veal parm, we cannot order it anywhere else!!! Outstanding.
Having the car service back and forth to the theater is such a nice touch.
Food was really good, was a little disappointed that the oyster rockerfeller was taken off the menu but service was as always superb.
Excellent as always! Been going here for over 30 years and never disappointed!! One of our favorite spots in Providence
Very disturbing to have fleas flying around your wine when it was served. Landed in my glass but the waiter graciously brought a fresh glass without me asking. He seemed concerned as well.
Had a reservation for 3/13/18. winter storm dropped a few inches of snow and no one informed us that the restaurant was not going to open. We made our way there for a business diner to find the restaurant closed. I have been here many times in the past and enjoyed it but this did not make me happy and was unprofessional.
Brought my son to Capriccios to celebrate his birthday. Everything was perfect-service, menu, decor, ambiance. Food was phenomenal!!
Great birthday dinner with my wife! Amazing service and taste!
Very good food, wait and bar staff excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly. Although a gentleman dressed all in brown maybe from the kitchen was loud in his displeasure of something..not sure what this was on the main floor and again near the private room.
A great meal prior to an evening show at PPAC
Both my husband and I really enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere was quaint and cozy, feeling very old world. I would definitely come back the next time I am visiting Providence.
I requested my reservation on line. I mentioned our dinner was to celebrate my wife's birthday. They had a small cake and candle ready for us for dessert. Donald was a fine waiter proving attentive service.
I had heard so much about Capriccios but never had experienced it for myself. Now we know what all the buzz was about; it is a very special place; a grown up restaurant! Romantic, comfortable, professional servers, yummy food. Fine Dining experiences are now rare, so it was a kick to enjoy this lovely restaurant
Capriccio was all it was cracked up to be.Great ambience, service, food and drink. All five us thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The waiter was especially entertaining and his humor keep the evening light and relaxed.
This was our second visit and it was amazing as before. There is a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that was warm and charming. The care that is given to every aspect of the service was unparalleled. The steak diane flambe was easily the most tender and delicious I have ever had. If you live anywhere near Providence and you enjoy good food and truly friendly service, you need to give Capriccio's a try. You will not be disappointed.
Great food + great service always. Everything was delicious and the waiters are pleasant, efficient + have a sense of humor.
I gave a slightly lower # of stars because we were seated directly in front of the kitchen doors - even though we had reservations and the place was practically empty our entire time there.
Also, the prices have increased since we were there last. So not the best value, but it's more of a special occasion place anyway.
We came to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and we were very impressed with the overall experience. The service was impeccable and the food was phenomenal. The one critique I had was the potato and vegetable with the Beef Wellington were not served hot; other than that, everything was spot on! The Kobe Carpaccio was one of the best I’ve ever had!
The place is the best, and one of my favorite places, and I’m out 4 to 5 nights a week.
Not sure why i never reviewed this place. But i went for like the 5th time last night. Really not sure how this place is not 5 stars.
Decor - perfect. Went with wife and it a very romantic and homey place. Old school with sinatra in the background. If u are going on a date and want to be romantic, not sure if there is better atmosphere in providence
Food - for apps, wife had lobster bisque and i had burrata special. Both were excellent. For dinner entrees, wife had capellini lobster and I had Veal Chop. Veal chop was amazing. Came with like a medley of potatoes. The wife gets the lobster dish every time we go so safe to say she loves it
Drinks - Had a few glasses of pinot noir. First house one was blah...but then waiter suggested a different one which was fantastic....And finished off with some sambuca and espresso. Fairly priced on beverages
Service - top notch from valet to coat check to waiters
This is a five star restaurant. Only complaint i had is their was no olive oil with my bread and butter! Lol...Anyone who says its not excellent definitely needs to try it out again.
This resteraunt is great to this day. My first experience at this resteraunt was PROM NIGHT Dinner in 1981!!!
HORRIBLE! My previous experiences at Capriccio have all been fabulous with impeccable service and food. I recently got engaged and when my family came in town to celebrate, I thought Capriccio with its intimate atmosphere and attention to detail would be perfect. Oh boy did I eat my words the other night! In my reservation notes, I requested a table by the fireplace. The host tried to seat us in the center of a different room and I politely referenced my request. He acted annoyed and seated us in a corner near the fireplace. Fine by me, however there was dust and what looked to be paint chips all over my place setting which he ignored. I'm not a picky person and don't like to cause a scene so I just brushed it off and we went about our meal. For appetizers, my sister and I were served limp Caesar salads overpowered with dressing, powdered Parmesan, and there was no fresh cracked pepper offered (I watched with envy as other tables were offered this, a basic expectation given the price point and past visits here). My aunt's pathetic salad had zero dressing/toppings, basically just lettuce with a few crumbs thrown on top. I recommended my favorite, the Tenderloin Diane (note: FLAMBE is clearly printed on the menu, not to mention I've had it before). While our tenderloins were cooked table side, there was no sherry and NO FLAMBE...not even a small flame! I scratched my head as I saw the fire show taking place at the table next to us (SAME WAITER - MARIO). My sister's Dover Sole was an inedible soggy mess. She kindly told Mario she didn't care for it (there was more than half of it left on her plate) and, rather than apologizing, he scowled and brought us a check for everything. I asked him why the fish was still on there and he argued that she had eaten it. However, he took it off when I asked him to speak with the manager (who NEVER came by our table). Needless to say, our meal was disgusting, the service was horrendous, and I left humiliated. Save your money!
It was just a great meal with a friendly and courteous staff.
The parmigiano risotto was tasteless, the sauce for the Sole Francaise was totally lacking, no idea why he heated it at the table as the fish was cooked in the kitchen, veal and lobster dish, new to menu was terrible, horrible taste, veal tough. When we asked the "sommelier" about a Italian Brunello he shrugged, said he couldn't really say and walked away, I was in shock as we've been going here for 30 years. Very disappointed and at $400.00 for 2 people, which it always was, we won't be returning. Andino's has much better food, Cappriccio has turned into all smoke and mirrors.
Valentine’s Day was a dream here.
Not very polished service
