Best Meal my wife and I have ever had. Simply incredible.
I really wanted to love it. My husband and I have been going here for years. Not often, because it's super expensive but occasionally, because it's always been worth it as a special treat. This time not so much. The food was incredible - we had a bottle of gorgeous wine, the mushroom soup, cacio pepe & the corn ravioli.
But I'm convinced they've added tables since we last went. Our reservation was at 6:30pm and it was packed. That's fine, but the space is just not meant for that. All of the surfaces are hard so the noise is just bounced everywhere. Both tables on either side of us touched us in some way - a woman's purse on one side, a chair on the other. So whenever anyone had to get through you'd get a butt in your face and over your table. At one point one server yelled "behind!" while passing another server to avoid a collision.
The food is wonderful but I don't think it's worth the environment any more. We may try one more time at the bar so we can actually her one another but I suspect we'll just go elsewhere next time. It was nearly $400 for two people. Just not worth not being able to hear your date.
Terrible. Never going back.
Consistently the best in LA. Authentic LA Italian with the only wine list that never disappoints. Oh yes and a stag that is as fine as the dine !
Capo remains my favorite restaurant in Santa Monica despite an array of newcomers. It is sublime. It succeeds at what I most prize—delivering classic dishes cooked to perfection in a setting that makes one feel at home.
Vanessa is terrific and the food is beyond words.
Wonderful experience. Amazing food and fantastic service.
I guess this is the problem with a restaurant that has as much hype as Capo. We had been wanting to go for a long time. Difficulty getting short term reservations (means they are busy, right?), credit card required to secure reservation, etc. My wife is Italian and we have eaten at the best Italian restaurants in the world. Capo was good, but not great. And the place is LOUD. There are a number of better Italian restaurants right near by...less expensive and easier to get in to. Sorry Capo.
Too expensive for what you get. Much of what we ate did not the the “wow” factor you should receive at such a high end restaurant
Celebrating our anniversary with family
As mentioned, service is very good (perhaps not the 'oh it's not a bottle' wine waiter - can we not taste wines by the glass?!). At $150, one would expect the truffle pasta to be hot, but it was luke warm at best. Meat was excellent, desert average.
Exceptional food in a great location. My favorite in Santa Monica.
Popular place. Definitely $$$$. Total bill with tip for 3 was around 700. But good restaurant for a special occasion. Pastas and desserts were the highlights for me.
Impressive menu. Great food and service. Expensive, but was expecting that. Bruschetta with poached egg and truffles was an all time great dish for me.
Capo is one of the best Italian restaurant I have ever been. The service was amazing, we really had a great welcome!
Loved the food and great service! Only complaint, I believe they added more tables since the last time we dined here and it made it too crowded. Servers could barely get by our table, and knocked my purse off my chair three times.
Insanely great, A+ across-the-board. Food, wine, staff, ambience. Totally a five-star event.
Capo is a landmark of Santa Monica and perhaps Southern California more broadly. Nowhere else can one find Italian and Italian-inspired dishes of such quality.
Absolutely outstanding. EVERYONE was fabulous. The wait staff and the floor “managers” were all so accommodating. Food was over the top! Waaay above our expectations. Will definitely go again. Was highly recommended and did not disappoint. Thank you.
Food was very good, service was good, maybe not not as good, not as you would expect for a gourmet dinner but the place is on the casual side so that s fine. Only thing that bothered me is that tip is already added to the bill which is completely fine, except that they should mention it, I didn’t look at the check in details since I was inviting some friends for dinner, so I filed a little over 20%, but the tip was already included...so I ended up tipping 50%...i wish someone would had let me know, I wouldn’t have asked for my “extra tip “ money back but once I realized it at home, I was definitely not happy. I ll go back regardless since the food was very good.
Fantistico Fantistico Fantisco Fantisco Fantisco Fantisco Fantisco
Capo is always perfect! Maybe it is the perfectly cooked pasta? The bucatini with lamb is unrivaled. Perhaps it is the open hearth where the best Branzino in America is cooked? Or the unbelievable appetizers, especially the octopus...I am hungry writing this review. It could also be the perfectly made desserts. Service is always tops and the wine list is quite a novel, which I enjoy reading. The music is fantastic and the vibe is terrific. Capo is my HAPPY PLACE!
Capo is always spectacular. The food, service and ambience cannot be beaten.
Espectacular! Buen servicio, deliciosa comida en un magnífico ambiente
We adore Capo!
Corn ravioli were amazing! Food was really good! Would recommend
Capo always hits it out of the park. Fantastic as usual.
Everything was fantastic. We had dinner for 4 and the food, service, atmosphere and wine was fantastic. It is an expensive place but worth it. Definitely a good spot for a special occasion.
Met the owner. Good guy. Service and food timelessly impeccable.
Delicious food but extremely pricey.
Capo never disappoints. The corn and truffle ravioli is a standout. Everything from the wood burning grill is outstanding. My favorite restaurant in LA.
Food was average and very very expensive. The only thing offered for our 5y anniversary was a plate of petite fours despite a tab over 330$ for 2. We were told that pasta courses were entree sized so they could easily do half portions, which we ordered. On our bill each “half portion” was charged at 60% instead of 50%. I guess Capo is desperate for the extra 4$. We were also incorrectly Double charged for corkage. Gratuity of 20% included for a table of 2 despite an average experience. Just leaves a terrible feeling. Will never return.
Arrived for early seating. Squeezed into a 2 top right next to another couple as if we were dining together. Although only 6:15, the room was VERY dark. 3 different people took our order as original waitress was in the weeds. Shrimp appetizer was divine, with an orange essence to it. however, until I put my phone light on it, I couldn’t appreciate all the different flavors due to the darkness and ended up eating some of the shell. My date had the scallops appetizer and he said it was delicious. White asparagus had traditional European presentation with 3 tiny potatoes and a slice of prosciutto. The actual asparagus was a bit tough and should have been peeled higher up the stalk. Lamb ragu on spaghetti was eaten completely. Dungeon crab risotto could have used a spice as it tasted mostly like chicken broth. I had told the hostess 3 hours early that it was my date’s birthday and I would pay for dessert but they did nothing about it and I had to ask again and they just took our dessert order as if there was no special request. Total was $454 for 2 people with only 2 drinks and a half bottle wine- and they included a 20 percent tip on entire bill including the expensive wine. Menu said they do this to give their employees a living wage. Prices already high and service should have been better to mandate an automatic 20 percent tip.
Been going for 15 yrs. it’s a nice place however super small. Our table this trip was a small 2 top table sandwiched next to another 2 top. Basically - no privacy !
The restaurant recently instituted a 20% service fee on every check and it felt like a push for an additional gratuity. Waiter told us mgmt took that service fee and spreads it with all staff..
I ordered 3 different pastas as an entree for 2 people and the portion was super small.. I tried to order more food and it took too long to get the waiters attention and when we finally did, it was too late for them to prepare another dish as our desert was ready. After 2 drinks each $125, and a small salad shared, $30, we left after paying a $300 tab and we were still hungry :( sad .. the place lost its luster and charm :(
Outstanding pasta and items from the grill in particular. Best grilled calamari I’ve ever had. Extensive wine list. Very expensive but memorable. Will return.
I have been to Capo before. My recent meal was very uninspiring. Out of 7 dishes, only the Pasta dish was exceptional. Everything else was very pedestrian. I was most disappointed with the steak. The meat was not as high quality as what you get at Cut or Mastro's and it was over-cooked. In the last week, I had a far better steaks at Hillstone and Charcoal. The service was average and I did not like the service charge concept.
Excellent friendly service an enjoyable atmosphere and food that is consistently superior thank you
Bruce Marder for always bringing your A game
We had a family dinner and enjoyed the experience. The food as always was outstanding. Besides the very high prices, especially on wines, my only gripe this time around has to do with the feel we got of hurried service. In this case, our waitress, although very professional, was all over us. No niceties, no small talk, no interest in us, how are you doing, etc. Also, the second we finish a plate or a drink, she removes it, in a frenzy. She reminded me of my grandmother when we ate at her home, She was always in a hurry to clean up the table so she can wash the dishes and rest. Our waitress behavior took the fun out of the whole experience. Otherwise, Capo is a great restaurant that is worth it.
I was very disappointed with the service. At this price point, you would not expect to be seated in such a confined space. I was here for a wedding anniversary and despite asking to be seated in an appropriate space upfront , I was seated in a crappy small table. We were seated at 830 and out appetizers werent brought out until 10 pm. The food was amazing but for 500$ this was a very sub par experience
