This is not part of the Capital Grille chain - typically not a fan of chain restaurants - but the Capital Grille, like a Hillstone, Morton's, or Mastro's - is usually a great experience - you've been there before - and you know what to expect.
This is the CapitOl Grille, with an O. not the same - while they are the original, and near the CapitOl - since 1930, they still should somehow inform patron on their site, or on Open Table, that it isn't the same business whatsoever
This especially stings when you bring a $200 gift card which they won't accept
Got married at The Hermitage Hotel almost 7 years ago it was a wonderful time! We were treated so well! Visited for the first time in over 5 years this past weekend, it felt very different, management has changed, prices have changed, food has definitely changed. Pretty disappointed.
Really very Good
An outstanding evening at Capital Grill! Food was great and service excellent. Will be back.
It's a beautiful and historic place to see but my dinner was not at all worth the price. I had the salmon. It was not as fresh as I expected nor were the vegetables with it. I also had the cheese cake for dessert which was not very good at all. The restaurant was not crowded when we were there but there was a party of 18 or so at another table and it appeared that they were taking most of the attention of the staff (and likely the kitchen).
Great service / food and drinks were awesome we will be back
We had a wonderful experience. Our waiter was outstanding.
We were there for lunch before seeing Hamilton at nearby TPAC. We arrived at 11:30 on a Saturday and were given a brunch menu with very limited lunch choices. I had a delicious Caesar salad with shrimp. However the lettuce was not cut at all. All the pieces were 4 to6 inches, so I needed to cut each and every bite. My suggestion is to tear the lettuce into manageable pieces. But the convenience of parking there and walking across the street to the theater surpasses that little challenge. The service is always first class.
The Capitol Grille was the perfect place to have dinner before a show at TPAC. We enjoyed coming early and having a little extra attention from our waiter, who gave us perfect recommendations for a starter through dessert. We can't afford to come here every week, but for a special occasion, this will always be one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Nashville.
I've been to Capitol Grille several times in the past. The first two times were excellent. The service was excellent and the food was excellent. The third time I went the service was still excellent but the food was nothing to write home about. This past time, though, the service was still excellent but the food was not good. My 'medium' salmon filet had a great sear on top but was raw in the middle of the bottom. My partner's 'medium rare' steak was also raw. We both walked out saying we never need to go back there again.
absolutely superb! definitely recommend. great location after tpac performance.
Dinner and a show at TPAC
Really enjoyed our time and dinner at Capital Grill. Do think that prices are high for the portion size and be prepared to pay extra for salad. Our waiter was amazing!
Very good soup and sandwich for winter. Thanks for having the newspapers while waiting for my guest.
The only thing missing was Sweet Tea.
The service was PHENOMENAL. Brendon served us, he was so knowledgeable about the menu. And so so personable and attentive. The whole staff was so intentional with our meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
The wait service was excellent, but a problem in the kitchen delayed my entree to the point that I needed to forego my dessert in order to make my show time. While they comped my meal, it was still a disappointing experience at what had always been a fine establishment.
This was about my 10th visit to the Capitol Grille and it was a dismal failure. A couple of evenings ago, I hosted my niece for dinner prior to attending a performance of Hamilton at TPAC. The evening was her December birthday gift and Christmas present, my gift to her, as well as a reward for successfully managing both a full-time job and a full-time university class schedule. This was to be a special evening of celebration, and I had mistakenly thought that the Capitol Grille would be perfect, based on my prior dining experiences there.
Sadly, I was mistaken to the point of utter embarrassment We arrived at the restaurant a few moments early, mindful of meeting TPAC tickets at will-call. When we were seated, there were only a few other occupied tables.
We ordered within 10 minutes of being seated. Our bottle of champaign and starters arrived within about 15 minutes. So far, so good. Our entrees, however, took another astounding 40 minutes to arrive after that. When I asked our server when our order might be ready, he replied, "I have no idea." I recall my husband and I got the same response last Saturday from a "no-star' server at our local Cracker Barrel.
The floor manager stopped by and assured us he would personally bring our order when it was ready, but he was also not prompt in retrieving it. We finally received our order, but both of our steaks were not cooked to perfection. Not just a little off cooking specifications, but almost a couple degrees.
Time was running out. We needed to leave within another 20 to 30 minutes. I did not want to complain and ruin the positive mood for my niece, who had lost both her parents in recent years. And you know what? I should not have had to do that. Especially for a meal with a tab of around $250.00.
Never say never, right? But I will certainly be reluctant to visit the Capitol Grille ever again. In fact, I have a reservation I need to cancel now. Best of luck, all!
We were all looking forward to dinner with Family before seeing The Broadway show Hamilton at TPAC. I have eaten at this restaurant before and was very happy with the service and the food.
I ordered the Caesar salad, the lettuce and the dressing was fresh and tasty, but the garlic croutons were tasteless pieces of stale white bread. (No garlic, no butter)
I ordered the $42 pan seared scallops. Average! They are much better the last time I visited. The scallop were served with purple rice grits with coconut milk poured on the platter. Why did they do that?
The restaurant provided a good atmosphere for a special luncheon.
We love the Capitol Grille. I just wish they had more variety to their menu. Their food is amazing but it can become mundane.
The Capital Grille just seems to get better and better ! There follow through on menu orders is terrific !
Noise level is manageable ! Staff was right on and terrific ! One of the sides we ordered was not up to your standard and was taken care off very quickly. All of the meals we ordered were right on !
Something that was not satisfactory was the emails indicating free parking. Well, it is free if you are out of there in two hours. We were going to see Hamilton at TPAC afterwards. The post two hour charges were not clearly defined.
Well the very super polite parking attendant gave me a coupon for my car for when we came back from TPAC. When arrived at the scene after the show, I gave my ticket to the attendant to retrieve my car and the attendant said in a brash way. "Go to the check-in desk to pay your fee" . We did notice when we left to go to my car, sign work outside that did refer to charges. Rushing from the restaurant to theater the sign was not apparent.
I wouldn't let the parking thing get in your way of going to this terrific restaurant.
Considering the reputation of the Hermitage Hotel, we were expecting a lot more quality in the food. Although the food tasted very good, the meals were served tempted. Also, no one was asked how they wanted their steak served and all were at medium rare...
The live music was very good, just too loud for an enclosed area. We had to almost shout to have a conversation.
We have eaten several times at the Capital Grille location in Washington, DC, and have always been extremely pleased with our experiences. Unfortunately, the New Year’s Eve set menu in Nashville was a disappointment. Having dined with set menus before at other establishments, we were surprised to see that there were no choices with the exception of dessert. Previous experiences we have had usually included two choices per course and, for a place like Capitol Grille, we expected the same. We were not asked the temperature we wanted for our beef and the mushroom risotto came out lukewarm. Overall, a very disappointing experience concerning it was $100 a person. We were expecting to be wowed (as we have been previously at the Capitol Grille in DC) and we don’t plan on returning to this location in the future.
What a great choice for New Year's Eve and Hamilton at TPAC. The fixed menu was excellent, the service was friendly and fast, and we were out in plenty of time for the show.
The entire experience was phenomenal from the delicious food to the impeccable service. The hotel is also gorgeous so take some extra time to explore.
Beautiful dining room and bar area. History and heritage oozed from the minute you walk in the hotel and restaurant.
Food was great, some nice narrow band wine selections.
Jeff took good care of us.
Every table in the restaurant had a rose in a vase except ours. The bread was cold when it came out.
We went for the Christmas dinner. The crab cake tasted under done. They ran out of prime rib so served a rib eye steak it was good but really wanted the prime rib. The dessert was really good. In my opinion I could have made a better dinner at home
Asked for Medium Prime Rib got Very rare couldn’t eat it
The food was not good it appears that it was mostly left over from the Christmas Brunch earlier in the day. Cold Prime Rib just piled on top of mashed potatoes. The Wife’s pasta was cold and not appetizing as well.
Christmas Brunch! Excellent food and service, would totally recommend.
Disappointment - the menu was totally different that one showed on website.....
Amazing. Kudos to the chef! And the ambience was exactly what you want from this excellent 5 star hotel.
The best Christmas buffet in the area!
Always a great experience at The Hermitage Hotel. Went for the Christmas Buffet for the first time and it was wonderful! Excellent food, great atmosphere with live piano music and fantastic service. Highly recommend!
So happy I found the Capitol Grille when searching for a restaurant to enjoy Christmas Day. Beautiful restaurant located inside the Hermitage Hotel in Downtown Nashville. We were greeted by our waiter, Mike. The Christmas brunch Buffett was quite an array of delicious choices from salads, entrees to desserts. A pianist played Christmas songs as well as other music while we enjoyed our meal. A special White Christmas drink was a nice dessert drink to finish our wonderful brunch.
Great food, awesome service. Ask for Thomas’ table.
Wonderful ambiance and delicious food. Server was knowledgeable and honest about recommendations. Beautiful historic hotel
Kinda noisy....Friday, Saturday & Sunday should be coat & tie for dinner wear
Nice waiter. Food was not worth the price paid.
