About Capitol City Brewing Company - Downtown

Located on the corner of 11th and H street NW, Capitol City Brewing Co. opened its doors in 1992 as the first brew pub in our nation's capitol since prohibition, thus giving its citizens and its many visitors the freedom to enjoy some of the finest hand-crafted beer in the country. On the front of our menu is the symbol of freedom, the Lady Liberty, a statue found atop our namesake, the United States Capitol.

Nestled in the heart of Washington's rejuvenated downtown, this location has become a local landmark for celebrating great beer and food with family and friends. We have always taken great pride in our beer so come in and enjoy a cold pint of our very best and match it to one of the many menu selections tailored to the brews we serve.

We had a 6:00 reservation. We received our first drink at 6:30 and didn’t see our waiter for another hour. All of our glasses were empty and no one ever came by to ask us for a refill. We ordered our food at 6:35 and at 7:40 still had nothing. When we asked about it someone brought out a drink that one of our party had been waiting in for 30 minutes, however it was the wrong drink...and still no food. We ended up leaving after an hour and 45 minutes and all we had to show from it was a single drink per person. We went someplace across the street and had great food and service in a very timely manner. When we told the manager that were leaving and why, he looked at us and shook his head. Very disappointed.

Not a great experience. Though the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, our server disappeared for long periods of time. Drinks were slow to come out, one of our guests orders a vodka tonic - tonic water was flat even after remaking the drink. I cancelled my second beer after waiting more than 20 minutes for it to come. Burgers were good, but the fish tacos had one minuscule finger-sized piece of dried out fish.

Food seems to be an afterthought at Capitol City. First, the wait staff could not explain with any confidence what was in the dishes..... for example, why aren't the crab cakes listed on the menu as gluten free? And those crab cakes were poor, much too much shell in there. We were with a couple of teenage boys. When they don't finish their food it is a bad sign. Finally got to the brownie dessert and needed a knife to cut the brownie! Cardboard. Probably a great place to have a beer and watch a game. Don't waste your time as a dinner destination.

Stopped by for a quick bite before Capital One Arena event and it was very yummy! $5 apps for happy hour was perfect to start - we had the nachos - plus they brought complimentary warm pretzels. We both ordered the burgers and were thick, juicy, and very tasty. Beer was matched perfectly with the meal and we left very happy. We will definitely return.

Perfect place to take large casual business lunch. The menu is pretty extensive so something for everyone to eat. Service was quick, correct and pleasant. Good experience overall, I will go back again.

The restaurant easily handled 12 family members as we gathered prior to a wedding in two days. Very good brew selection. Fast service and varied menus. I enjoyed my Ahi Tuna salad, while my husband had comfort meat loaf and smashed potatoes. My niece and her husband went back the next day to enjoy a football game. It was lively and fit the bill for a casual night.

Food is pretty much your standard bar style...nothing wrong with it...but it is not a gastro-pub. Beer is excellent. Service always slow, takes forever for a server to bring the beer list, get drinks, and appetizers frequently come with the main course.

The waitress had a bit of an attitude. That is not what you expect when you are celebrating a birthday. If one of the patrons ask for ice, don't tell them 'what do you expect, it came from the faucet when they indicate that the water is warm. Be nice about it and bring ice or get a new job. We were afraid to ask for anything else after that. We have been to this restaurant several times in the past month.

No one liked their food. It was bland, the bread was soggy and meat was overcooked. Our service was great considering we were a large party but, food leaves something to be desired.

In DC for a family vacation. Came for dinner with a large group of 9. They quickly accommodated us. Service was great and half price appetizers during happy hour. We even got free soft warm pretzels. We would definitely come back.

Visiting from the West Coast. Found this place on Yelp and so glad we did, not to mention being able to make a reservation through Open Table! This place is hopping. We happened to arrive during Happy Hour and the Happy Hour food selection was amazing, not to mention the beer. This was one of our favorite dining experience while in DC. Would definitely return.

Service was scarce most of the time we had to ask another staff member to request our server to check in with. She never asked about the meal.

The server forgot multiple things such as "complimentary pretzels" that we had no idea about but she told us she was bringing, one party members appetizer, never came around to check on us, did not ask if we wanted additional alcoholic beverages. Over the years and with multiple trips to D.C. I have come to find that more often than not service is terrible anywhere you go.

We were a party of 6 after the cherry blossom parade and we ended up getting to the restaurant a half hour early. It wasn't busy and we got seated right away. We had an awesome waiter. I wish I could remember his name but he had great insight and was very attentive. He also brought us pretzels while we waited for our food. The food was awesome. The price was decent for D.C. We will def return

Have been here many times. Open Table reservation I made last week for girls' night with 5 friends. We were given a corner circular booth that was awesome. Place was packed as usual and service and food still great. Love the organic lemon caper chicken. It's always cooked perfectly.

I made a reservation for 11, asking for the high seat tables in the standing area because I was inviting a lot of people over for happy hour. They gave us 3 tables with a lot of standing space (exactly what I wanted) and were already prepared to split everything up on separate checks from the beginning.

Basically-- don't be shy in requesting something specific when putting a reservation in; these guys definitely take those requests seriously and made the experience that much more enjoyable!

We had a reservation for 12 the day of the Women's March. The place was jam packed. The staff were sensational. They had our table set on time, we did not have to wait very long at all for drinks, apps or food. We expected a long time and were amazed how fast that kitchen pumped out food. Great casual dining experience. The staff really make this place exceptional.

Could not have been happier. The hostess was great and accommodated our reservation time despite our party size change. They sat us immediately during what was probably their busiest day during the Women's March. Very fun environment, great service and good beer and food selection.

We made a reservation and had to change the time , the restaurant was very accommodating. When we arrived our table was ready and our server was great. We had dietary restrictions and he was awesome at helping us. Our food came out perfect except my son ordered cheese fries and when they came out the cheese was all dried out and looked like it had been thrown on at the last second. It was not worth eating. Other than that we had a great experience 😊👍
