The service AND food is second to none! Best in Madison!
My first and certainly not last time there. Food was outstanding. Prices were what I'd expect to pay.
Highly recommended even if you're not staying at the hotel.
Outstanding service by our friendly and helpful waiter and other staff. Parking was convenient and free. Very clean and beautiful restaurant and attached hotel. The food...was ok to not so okay..the highlight of the Easter Brunch was the okay apple and raspberry crepes? Crepes? Food taste and selection was comparable to a Denny’s restaurant. We’re 99.99% certain that we’re not going back for Easter Bruch. Food not worth the approximately $100 bill.
Logan our server took great care of us. Food was great.
We wanted someplace special to have an intimate dinner for my spouse's birthday. The service, food and atmosphere were perfect. Our waiter, Renee, was genuinely pleasant and helpful, along with the entire staff. We will be back!
Unfortunately we were left very disappointed with the service and the food and drinks. Our drinks took over 30 minutes to receive even after we asked our waiter to check on them 15 minutes after we first ordered them. We received our appetizers 2 min prior to our drinks. During the first 30 minutes we watched the 3 tables around us place their orders, receive their drinks, food, boxed up leftovers, and pay the bill... they were gone before we received our steaks & mashed potatoes & Brussel sprouts . They cooked my steak medium rare - I asked for medium. And my boyfriend’s steak medium - he asked for medium rare. The Manager came by twice to ask how our experience was going... this was after he was well informed of our disappointment in service & food. The drinks were delicious once they arrived. I’ve been to busy restaurants and this particular restaurant on this past Saturday night would not qualify as busy... otherwise I could somewhat understand the lack of attention they showed us. Right before we received our bill; our waiter showed up with gelato & cheesecake as an “apology”. The Manager then stopped with with a dessert wine & small chocolate liquor drinks for us; again, as an “apology”. The “apology” was a nice gesture but proved that they were able to give our table the same customer service they showed the other tables right next to us. We wouldn’t recommend this establishment and won’t be stopping by on our next trip to Madison.
This used to be among our regular restaurants, but as the food slipped, we stopped dining here about three years ago. We decided to give it another chance when we looked at the online menu to see if anything changed. It had, with some new entrees. While being seated, we noticed the chipped floor tiles with dirty grout. "Hmm," we thought. Alas, our waiter told us, the online menu is always many months behind the actual menu ... another "hmm," we thought! The service, as in the past, was good. The food, however, was not. The wedge was limp and room temperature. The small salmon portion was only OK; the couscous, however, was oily/slimy. The baked potato to accompany the prime rib special was enormous and perfectly baked and seasoned. The meat, itself, however was only OK though not nearly hot enough when served. The restaurant, itself, is quiet making it easy to have a conversation. Together with the service, that is the best I can say about the Capitol Chop House.
Overall, very good service and the food was excellently prepared . One thing-- it was a slow night for this establishment as only three tables were occupied. Unfortunately all three were near each other. One group was loudly celebrating a birthday. Not a huge issue but the hostess should have been more alert to this and spread out the seating.
We had a reservation at the Capitol Chop House on a Saturday night before a show at the Overture Center. We were welcomed and seated immediately. Both the wait staff and the host (who refilled our water and helped collect plates) were very attentive and helpful. The waiter was knowledeable about the menu and answered all of our questions, and he was very cautious about my mother-in-law's food allergies, double-checking to make sure different menu options were safe for her to eat. We both had steaks, which were tender and delicious. The brussels sprouts were also very tasty, along with the bread. Overall great experience.
Excellent Bone in Ribeye!
Great server (Logan) and awesome filets
Great place to go and enjoy a romantic evening with a loved one! Highly recommended for the atmosphere, food and wine!
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in the city, and you can tell that it’s struggling. The place was nearly empty for an evening meal, and everything seemed to just be kind of lagging. Half of the restaurant was closed off and it’s just gave a vibe of “we’re failing”. That said, the food was still very good, although not as good as we have had in the past there.
I really hope this place makes it and gets back their old energy. It might be a subconscious thing where the lack of energy fed to a lack of excitement about the dinner, but we won’t really be going back here until we hear there have been significant changes. It is sad.
The steaks were done perfectly. The service was exceptional. The sides were big enough for two and prepared superbly. Wine paired well with the meal. 5 stars.
We were excited to get our food on our Valentines date but when it came, it didn’t look like what we ordered. We got Brussels instead of broccoli. I questioned the waitress who brought the food out. I ordered a NY strip bone in and what I got was a ribeye. I said it didn’t look right and she tried to tell me the ribeye was what a bone in NY strip looked like. My husband also got the wrong meal. She took the food back but said to keep the Brussels. Then she came back and said we got someone else’s order and took the Brussels away. Guess we didn’t get to keep them? The restaurant never acknowledged the problem. Our bill was $160 and I feel as if we deserved at least a management acknowledgement of the big food snafu.
Me and my boyfriend went on a date in Chophouse and everything was so amazing. The waiter was nice and friendly. The meals were so tasty and the environment was really great. I would definitely recommend it to my friends for dates!
Probably one of the best steaks I've ate in the Madison area
Great food, great service!
Overall mediocre food and high costs. No coat check or hook. Mixed drinks were subpar.
It was a great place for breakfast
Decent, but underwhelmed. We selected the brunch with made-to-order omelets. The bacon, sausage, and fruit were fine. The potatoes were terrible - bland and dry. The omelets were very tasty, but were the smallest "3 egg omelets" we've ever seen. Juice and coffee with brunch was great. I've been here before for dinner and that was delicious, but the brunch is very limited and ordinary, just OK, unfortunately, certainly not a destination. Service was fine. Décor was very outdated. Meh.
A fight at the bar was the highlight. The staff handled it gracefully.
I am a foodie normally do not order Steaks out.... the Steak , French onion soup and Brussel sprouts were all simply specular! I have live in the Madison area 50+ years, best steak out ever!
It was just okay nothing exciting old steakhouse with expensive items. I ordered the most expensive bone in Ribeye it was decent. Much better places in Madison to eat at. We ate here because it was one of the only places with availability on a busy Saturday night
Best dinner experience we’ve had since we moved to the Madison area over three years ago. It met every expectation we had and more. Just wished we had known the valet service was free so we didn’t have to search for street parking. We will be back!
Had a birthday lunch with a friend. We each had the chop salad and soup of the day. Both items were delicious. The service was impeccable. Will definitely return to this restaurant!
Service and food were very good. Thanksgiving fare is tough to grade because nothing tastes like 'Mom's.'
Not a big lunch selection - but great service and delicious food.
The place was totally empty. Waited 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge us. Food was bland, over-cooked, and the salad was drenched in dressing. We left without finishing our meal.
Menu isn't overwhelmingly large...which I find appealing. Although the steaks and scallop entrees we had were great, the stars were the sides. Broccoli, mushrooms, brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes were excellent. Our service that night was also top notch. Pricey, of course, but it's on par with most steak houses.
My husband and I were out at UW - Madison for Parents Weekend and took our son there for a special night...it was a great experience...Clay, our server, couldn't have been nicer or more knowledgeable about both the food and drink menu...We will definitely return!!!
The service was wonderful and the food was good but nothing particularly memorable.
Dinner for two on a Friday evening. Our waiter Logan was informative and helpful with suggesting and explaining menu items. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Steaks were perfectly prepared and super tender. Will definitely be back.
Prime Rib was way too salty to enjoy. Terrible. New York steak was good.
The food was very good - typical steakhouse fare. The ambiance was poor - very dated, austere and lackluster. The service was fine, but not overly welcoming when we arrived. I almost felt like we were an inconvenience If you are staying at the Hilton, then I would recommend the restaurant, because of the location and the food was tasty. However, with all of the great restaurants in Madison - I would chose another.
Our waiter was beyond lovely, the food was great, will definitely be back
Pricey for level of cooking skills. Not up to par comparing to steak house such as Morton's, etc.
Consistently the best dining experience in Madison.
