Capital Seafood - Diamond Jamboree Ratings and Reviews
Was so looking forward to dining here, but a huge disappointment. The rest room had a stench and untidy, an immediate turn off. The food didn’t look fresh and had no taste. We lost our appetite and refused the doggy bag.
A tiny bug crawling all over the table. And, to make it worse, there was a strong smell of some cleaner like Pinesol from under the table, along the walls. The whole area had an old unclean smell.
Overall, it was a disgusting experience. A pity, the restaurant has a great location and well designed. Previously, we had enjoyed the other Capitol at the Irvine spectrum so much, thought we’d give this a shot. Never again.
This is my favor dimsum place in the area. Dinner is hit or miss...but come here for the ambiance and service. Have a family dinner here. Everyone loves the seafood tofu soup and walnut shrimp. But BBQ pork is way too lean and mix veggies looks...Idk, looks like covered by glue. The rest is decent.
Don't eat here if you have food allergies. We asked the waiter and he confirmed no peanuts in any items we ordered. Our son ended up in the emergency room. They were helpful once they determined how serious this was and found out one of the items they told us had no nuts had peanuts in it. I think the place is just too busy for them to pay attention to issues like this.
Had reservation for dining on Christmas evening. Too many people waiting at hostess stand and bar area, where they hovered over diners. Understanding it was busy, wait for food was very long (30 minutes) and then one dish that was ordered was forgotten. It came about 20 minutes later. Food was good, but not worth the wait. A lot of hype about this restaurant, which unfortunately it does not live up to.
The worst experience I have had at a restaurant. We had a reservation at 9:00 pm. We got there at 9:10 not knowing they closed at 9:30. Once we got there we were told we had to order quick and eat fast. I said I didn't want to be rushed and he said to eat fast. I decided to leave. They were very rude. Never would want anyone to experience this service. Don't patronize this restaurant.
This was our first time at Capital Seafood. It was my birthday and I chose it because I wanted Peking Duck. However, when we arrived at the strip shopping center, we had no idea that such a wonderful wealth of Asian restaurants existed in just one center. We will be back to try others in the center as well as returning to Capital Seafood.
I believe the name of the restaurant is somewhat inaccurate as I would classify it more as a high class Chinese restaurant than a seafood restaurant. That does not in any way negate the fact that their menu includes several outstanding seafood dishes.
Although the food we ate, Mushu Pork and Peking Duck, were both delicious, I have to say that the highlight of our visit was the outstanding service. Attentive without being intrusive, helpful and friendly. What more could you ask for from your server?
I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was amazing! Great seafood, terrific service, and our table was well placed. Cannot wait to return with another group of friends or family. Though it was expensive - the food was fresh, tasty and well worth it. We had freshly steamed lobster, crab and the duck. No room for desert. Yum!
Busy as usual, be sure you have a reservation. Simple dinner tonight: juicy dumplings were good (but light on broth), house special shrimp (slightly crispy, light spice)were delicious, gourmet vegetables which always a great balance to the meat. Service is a bit slow, but they are super nice, so don't plan on eating here on a time crunch. White wine list a bit light but the reds looked OK. Can't miss with this place. Parking is difficult due to so many great restaurants in the Center.
The dishes start at $15 for vegetable dishes and into the upper teens for the meat dishes. Dishes are served family style, so you get a nice variety of food to share when you have several people in your group. Prompt service and food that is tasty, makes this a good place to return to.
Felt rushed to order and then all the food arrived at the same time. They piled the plates almost on top of each other since there was no timing and no room on the table. Food taste and quality was mediocre. Not worth the price and we would rather travel to LA or Monterey Park for more authentic/better quality.
First time having dinner here. Dim sum for lunch was fine on another visit which I highly recommended. But, this dinner was very disappointing. It was overly priced for a restaurant that does not have good service. Waiter Sandy was very pushy upon ordering. I barely got to read the menu and here he was in a hurry trying to take our order. I even told him to give us a few minutes. He was still pushy. He recommended all the highly priced items on the menu. Recomended bbq dish that was terrible. The plates are too small. Should not be used for dinner. More for bread or small appetizers only. We had a party of 6 and alot of food. Not enough room to barely put any food on the plates. First dish came out and sat for 15 minutes before any rice or other dishes arrived. So, it was cold by the time it was eaten. I had to ask for spoons and napkins. Kitchen is slow at bringing out food. For a Chinese restaurant they are not very quick. There are no refills for juice for kids. That irritated me after I had spent all that money on dinner. The restaurant was not busy at all. I spent $200 dollars on dinner. Overpriced if you ask me for 4 adults and 2 small children. Service was not good at all. We will never be back here for dinner.
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the food we ordered. Came here to celebrate my dad's birthday since he wanted traditional Cantonese dinner so I picked this restaurant. Everything we had was quite good. We reserved early since we know this restaurant can get quite crowded in the evenings.
We love taking friends who love food but never knew this place existed here. It's a great way to be sure you get the house special lobster finished before you leave! I've had everything from dim sum lunch to desert and come back to the lobster every time - highly addictive!!!
When the Irvine Spectrum location is all booked up, the Diamond Jamboree branch is a good substitute -- plus there are so many dessert and tea places in the shopping center to visit afterward.
Only quibble is that I made a reservation for 7pm on Mother's Day, and we weren't seated until 7:15.
The parking (which is not the fault of the restaurant's) was horrendous on a Sunday evening. Granted it was Chinese New Year, but our family and guests had to park in a office building area 3 long blocks away (after 40 min of trying to find a space in the immediate area). After that, the service was as bad as it can get. After ordering the "Ruby" menu, it took an hour for 2 dishes to get to the table. We had children with us with school the next day. The food was mediocre at best. The Honey Walnut Shrimp had too much breading and was over fried. The Filet Mignon Cubes were not cubes, but slices of meat. I used to like this restaurant, but after this experience, I don't think my family and I will be back.
The food here is solid but will not wow you. I was looking for a restaurant that could comfortably accommodate a party of 9 and that took late reservations- this was one of the few in Irvine I could find. Parking is difficult in DJ. Still, the service was standard but the experience is a little nicer than your prototypical Chinese spot.
They were accomidating when we were 10 mins late. They sat us in a small table which we had a hard time to place the food we ordered. Kinda like a jigsaw puzzle trying to make sure the food fit on the table. We ordered Dim sum and ordered from the regular menu. The fried rice was very salty and the shaken beef was cold by the time it got to the table. The place it quite pricey compared to other dim sum and Chinese restaurants I have eaten at.
The food and service was amazing! This was our first time dining at the restaurant, on a recommendation, and our server Adam was great with dish recommendations and explaining the menu. Our final choices were perfect and that is all thanks to Adam. They have the best walnut prawns and eggplant dish I've EVER had.
We rode our bikes from Corona del Mar along the San Diego Creek Trail. The restaurant is convenient to the trail. We went early because I had heard of the Saturday night crowds. Bicycle parking means locking up at a sign pole, some bike racks would relieve the parking challenge. I ordered a delicious lychee vodka martini. Food arrived in only a few minutes and we were finished, out the door — the experience was a little too efficient. We rode home the same way, facing the setting sun.
We go to Capitol Seafood often and were surprised when we went recently for my son's going away dinner to find out that it was 6:00pm and they did not have any juicy dumplings. Those dumplings are delicious and are our favorite thing on the menu at Capitol Seafood. We thought the waiter was teasing us when we asked for 4 orders of dumplings and he said they were all out of them. If we ever go back, I will definitely call ahead to see if they have dumplings for the evening.
We had a reservation for 8:15 and arrived promptly on time. The hostess
Told us she had one table right by the toilets available. I then told her that we had a reservation. She told us that meant nothing to the establishment the tables sitting are on a first come first serve basis. Why did we bother to make a reservation??? We were seated 20 minutes later and once the waiter took our order they did not bother to return and ask us if we needed anything else! Till they needed us to pay. The food was bland and nothing special there are quite a number if restaurants in the strip mall so don't get stuck here! Never again. Ambience blah!
We ordered the salted fish fried rice with crab but when it came out they forgot to put in the crab. So instead of apologizing and bringing it back into the kitchen to add in the crab, they just took out a bowl of crab meat and dumped it onto the plate and walked away. They didn't even bother to try to mix it up for us. We were all shocked and speechless. I normally expect good food but bad service at a Chinese restaurant but this had got to be the worse experience for us.
We went to take advantage of the $12 Peking duck special. For the price, I guess you could say it was good. Would I go back? Probably not. Service is spotty. Don't ask crabby Asian lady for a cup of water though! If dagger eyes could kill! Apparently, she ONLY delivers food to tables, and rather unhappily i might add. The male waiters were better...if you could get their attention.
Dim sum carts did not come around quickly; tables too tight near each other; waiters ALL had a harried look. Food was often cold. Price points high. Bathroom unkempt and did not have any receptacle for used paper towels. (and needless to say, parking was extremely difficult).
We were served in a timely manner, however.
