Capers Ratings and Reviews
We had not been to Capers in a while and wanted a quieter spot, even knowing Monday’s already are. It was perfect. Basketball was on TV but not the Warriors so we enjoyed each others company, as it should be. Service was excellent. We started at the bar before sitting at our table. The occasion was our 35th Anniversary dinner with my husband and that fact did not go in-noticed, which was a nice touch. We both had the Orange Roughy and was very good! Veges also good and the rice was perfectly made with herbs. Great eve together!
Checked out the menu in OT before making a reservation and decided what we wanted to order before we arrived. We got there and found out that the menu had been changed a "looong" time ago. We didn't feel like ordering a $15 burrito (for example) in this loud and uncomfortable atmosphere so we bailed. The server was polite when I requested that she wipe the filth of the table.
It's a favorite movie night dinner place.
Go early for the Happy Hour ( before 6:00PM) or post movie, live music on some Fri & Sat nights.
At times ( especially Friday & Saturday evenings) it can get a bit noisy, but the staff is good a making you feel welcome, and attentive to you needs. Don't forget to make sure to save room for dessert. My favorite is the Berry's Grand Marnier.
Went to this restaurant for the first time with a buddy. We thought we'd be having lunchand were pleasantly surprised to find out they had brunch on Saturdays. I had a Mimosa, Eggs Benedict and a glass of house Champagne. My friend had the breakfast Burrito and a couple of Bloody Marys. The service from Alyssa was really excellent and the food, drinks were top shelf!! We will return. Thanks Alyssa! You were a Sweetheart. 👍 😎
We had an "ok" experience at Capers. Lunchtime on a Thursday was quiet, with a casual, comfortable neighborhood-regulars kind of feel. Fried calamari starter was sub-par. Cubano sandwich was good. One of us had the French Dip...tasty. Fries with sandwiches were very good. Portions are generous. Service was friendly. Would go back for a casual lunch.
I can't believe I'm saying this but the service was WAY TOO FAST. Appetizer served before our drinks. We got 3-4 bites in and my salad was presented. Before I got my fist bite of salad our dinner was presented The served our my dinner pkate on a neighboring table because there was no room with my salad in front of me. I took a few bites of salad and decided not to go further with it because I'm watching my dinner get cold. This literally all took place in less than 10 minutes. Not a good experience. And the food was nothing to write home about
I love the vibe, the bar, the food and the service, but the noise level is always high. My friend and I had to repeat ourselves, and misunderstood one more than once because it was so loud. We are both professional musicians and used to a given level of sound, but Capers needs some acoustical treatment to dampen the sound level. Maybe some baffles hanging from the ceiling.
That said, the food was superb as was the service. I will definitely come back.
I needed a place to host my brother in laws 50th birthday dinner. Capers was fantastic. They accommodated our large party which increased to 18 people 2 hours before dinner. The wait staff was friendly and quick. Everyone had a great time from the 6 year old up to the 80 year old.
Had high hopes for this place as a neighborhood gem, but was letdown in the end. The walls, ceilings and tchotkes were dirty/dusty. The food was decent, but uninspired and rather pricey. And the host was not very welcoming. In general, it just didn't seem like they were very excited for their customers to be there. I didn't feel all warm and fuzzy about eating at this restaurant.
Had a reservation, arrived on time but, table not ready. They said 20 minutes. We had a seat at bar right next to the host stand. Had a drink waiting....finally at 30 minutes we asked about our table. The host had forgotten about us. Then they tried to put all three of us at a small table for two. We refused to accept that and the host was dumbfounded. I asked to talk to manager about it as it was ridiculous. Then they combined two long skinny tables together and stuck them in an odd place. Really a lousy set up. Took 15 minutes for waiter to come by, then massive waiting for food etc. Finally food came out and off course it was cold to luke warm. Overpriced food is decent but, the management of this place is clearly at fault. The employees are trying but, they really need more training and management needs to improve systems. Really not a good place. This has happened before. Food is pretty good so I keep going back but, it is torture.
Went there for a girls night out with 5 other people. For Appetizers we had the lettuce wraps and calamari...first of all when they set the plates down the food was not appealing at all and the taste even worse! Then came our meals and lets just say it got even worse. We had various different items from the menu. The food was not good at all and extremely over priced for food that tasted like it was old and bland flavors. Quality was just not there. I would not recommend this food to anyone.
My husband absolutely loved the Lamb Shank. He only had one instead of two, It was plenty. I plan to try it next time. The restaurant was very casual and kid friendly. Not sure though if they have child's plates. Not a date-night place but a good place to watch a game on T.V. and you don't have to worry if your underdressed. The price of food was probably a bit on the higher side.
Asked for booth seating, got 1/2 booth instead, in a corner near the kitchen entrance, definitely felt like an out-of-towner. Restaurant very noisy, sometimes difficult to carry on a conversation. Small plate menu: VG selections, prices and value. Drinks (margarita) pricey. Not a dress-up date place - many families, folks on their happy hour, etc. Decent service; hostess and waitstaff friendly and competent.
Waitress was impatient in the beginning. Rude.
Lamb chop order was luke warm.
Surf n Turf dish: Filet Mignon was TOUGH! My steak knife was working overtime! The menu said two giant prawns but it came with 5 small shrimps! Mash potatoes and vegetables were luke warm.
The table next to us was cleaned after customers left, so the staff removed the white linens and left a 4 foot old , stained, folding table that left my kids laughing because it didn't match any of the nice tables.
Super disappointed to choose this restaurant on Mother's Day : (
We have been going to CAPERS since it opened. It is a nice place to meet friends , family, and relax.
Lately the service has been poor at best. The wait staff is slow , not trained adequately especially for wine service, or paying attention to its customers. They seem to be more concerned with talking to each other or the bar staff. It is too bad, as this could be a very nice place to go.
Secondly the table spacing can be a bit tight, it wouldn't hurt to remove a few tables to provide adequate maneuvering room for the guests and wait staff,. There are times when the servers are trying to determine where to stand to take the order or serve the meals. Perhaps hiring a restaurant consultant will improve layout and access tot he tables.
The food was reasonable - my wife had fish, I had lamb shanks. I thought the lamb was fair (not great, not poor) - a bit overly salted and fatty. We used a Costco discount card; without that I'd probably the value was only so-so.
Best part of the place is ambiance inside. It was full and active.
I was pretty disappointed with Capers. Service was bad. We ask some food- they substituted the food without notice. Didn't even compensate us for that. Service was crawling. slow. One server was handling gazillion tables, and didn't have time for us. The food wasn't that great. The place was noisy. I'm definitely not coming back.
My experience was awesome I took two people that had never been to Capers they enjoyed it immensely we had cocktails two appetizers and entree and dessert and then went over to the bar area to relax for awhile and I met the manager who was amazing and truly has a desire to please in accommodate I highly recommend this restaurant
