Food is excellent, with plenty of options. Been coming here for some time and haven't had a bad meal. However, it is very loud. As long as your prepared for it, you'll love your meal.
We walked into the restaurant and realized we would not be able to hear our own conversation due to the horrible acoustics, and quickly walked out. I hear the food is good, but we will never return. Note that I had to make selections for Food and Service that we did not experience in order to submit this review.
We had been given a gift card from a client so we decided to try it out. It was my birthday which was a Friday. The place is small, tables too close and they do everything they can to pack you in! It is so noisy you have to talk very loud to hear each other but with all that said, the food was outstanding!!! I would go again but I would never attempt a weekend night or a night where there is a game on t.v. We have already talked about going again with friends during the week.
We went here for Brunch on a Sunday. We arrived shortly after they opened, and the staff seemed a little surprised to have someone come in so early. We were the only customers there for about a half an hour. They were showing a football game on all of their screens, and so by the time we left, there were a half a dozen or so other customers there, watching the game. The food and service were fine, nothing amazing, but certainly nothing bad, either. I'd love to come back during happy hour when a game is playing. I bet it would be a fun place for that sort of thing.
Kudos to Capers for honing in on a loyal clientele, and from all appearances keeping them very happy. The place was packed with regulars on a Friday night, perhaps spilling over from their Happy Hour. The crowd was 40-something and above, congenial, like a neighborhood joint. A few less tables in the bar and dining areas would add comfort. I almost left because we were squished in like sardines. We were offered another table, and I appreciated that. The food was decent, with maybe too many offerings on the menu to put out an exceptional meal. Also, too much goopy cheese on the scalloped potatoes. The drinks were good, but on the small side for the price. I would bring my husband here for a burger, on a quiet night.
We were there on new years eve and it was very crowded. We had the reservation and were seated promptly. The food was good, but overpriced in our opinion. For having a sports bar atmosphere they are charging fine dining prices.
This place was really overpriced, the food was bland and the drinks were extremely heavy in alcohol but had no flavor. The mixers were also flat. This is not someplace I will be returning to in the future.
Busy night and glad we had a reservation. Seated quickly yet long wait for first contact. Very, very noisy and loud place. Had to shout to be heard by my wife sitting next to me. Dishes rattling, loud bar scene, and very poor acoustics - my throat was sore by the end of the meal and I didn't talk much.
Excellent food though.
I keep coming back to Capers for the food. However, the noise level for dinner is not appealing. We have switched to going for lunch because of the noise at night, however we tried it once again hoping for the best. Unfortunately, it remains a very noisy environment on busy nights (week nights not so bad). I love the food quality and taste, never had a poor meal. If only they could do something about the noise.
food was okay but somewhat pricey
The restaurant was busy. We did not get our table on time but were not forgotten. The manager quickly asked us for a drink request (on the house) while waiting so the experience was very good. They take care of the customer.
second annual Christmas dinner. It was great. we had 17 people. Thanks
Noise level is very high. Makes it difficult to talk to each other across the table for large parties. We had a party of 8 and was happy with the setup... which allowed a circle-like sitting pattern... so everyone can see and talk to each other. Thanks for not putting us in one long rectangular table setup.
The food was great! Little pricey for us, but we were OK with it being a holiday party. Tough on the wallet for us since we are all teacher aides in the local school district. Not enough pay... state budget cuts... what can we say? We're just glad we have a job and are able to go out to celebrate at a nice restaurant.
I booked a post wedding lunch at the last minute and the staff was fabulous. We had a late lunch so fortunately we could get a table for 11 people. The food was very good and the menu has a wider selection of vegetarian entrees than many other places. Everyone in the party said that they would come back because there were many other menu options that they wanted to try. We will definitely be back!
I have eaten at this restaurant many times. The noise level has always been a problem. This particlar evening it was exceptionally loud as there were several large groups. The food was very bland. I probably won't go back again.
Food was good, service was a little slow. Our server seemed to be distracted. Putting a table with a large party that included children right at the entrance to the restaurant was probably poor judgement on management's part
This is not my first visit to Capers and again they did not disappoint. The menu is diverse for a large group and everyone was happy with their meal. Also enjoyed the 2-for-1 martinis at the table. Most places make you sit at the bar to enjoy the specials.
I went there for lunch with my father, who is recovering from a stroke. They took excellent care of my dad, opening doors, seating us carefully, and taking time to really listen to him when he ordered or asked for anything. That kind of care alone is worth four stars, but the food, while simple, was solid in preparation and presentation as well. Thank you!
everything was a positive, except for the first time we sat near the door and were cold all night. We were sitting by the bar and the noise level was not good. We will request a seat in the back next time. Our server Kim went beyond the call of duty.
Capers never seems to fail when it comes to expectations. Wedge Salad is the best, and I love wedge salads. Ribs fell off the bone and service was with a smile.
That evening the open bar to the dining room made it very noisy but it it was to be expected - it was game 4 of the world series with serious Giant's fans watching on the tvs surround the room! What a way to celebrate our 40th anniversary - GO GIANTS! Great food too!
Great food, great service...what more could you ask for? We went there to watch the Giants game...we sat in the dining area for over 3 1/2 hours on a Saturday night. I know that was pushing it and they couldn't have been more gracious and accomodating. I always get the chicken lettuce wraps which are delicious, but my favorite is the roasted artichoke appetizer. Thank you, Capers!!
Good food for a sports bar. Creme brulee was excellent
This is a very loud sports bar restaurant--on a night when the Giants played a shut out. The ambiance for a Giants fan was probably splendid, but I found it unpleasant because of the deafening acoustics whenever they scored. I am not a sports bar person,so I wouldn't have gone if I had known. My two companions were ok with it (my husband likes baseball). SO, go if you like that kind of place because the food and service were quite good and the portions were large.
We have gone to Capers quite a few times (seven or so in this year) and always, always like the all! Everything is great in service, the food is great and we find the other patrons in good spirits because of the feeling we get by all of this! Being a sports bar too, but more roomy, clean, the TV's are easy to view at many angles... The bar tenders make a better drink then a lot of places we've been to also! Keep it up Capers!!
Our small group of seven adults enjoyed delicious food and excellent service. The birthday dinner with cake and gift exchange was all handled by the staff with ease and grace. We had a wonderful evening and the birthday girl enjoyed her favorite Capers meal.
Good time had by all...
The food was very good and the service was outstanding. However, the prices for lunch was too expensive. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend Capers for lunch. I would instead recommend this place either for dinner or a very special occasion.
Food was very good, wait staff was helpful, but not overly outgoing (e.g. did not tell us the fish of the day or specials until we asked). Reviews were accurate regarding noise level so our expectations were in line. Enjoy our dinner and experience, we will be back!
Although an old favorite, we may not go back after this experience. We were seated at an "add-on" table directly by the front door; no one had been assigned to wait on this table. We sat there a long time before being given water, bread or our order taken. My husband orderd lasagna, and was served a plate of greyish meat layered between white pasta - no sauce. He reported to the waiter that the "Lasagna is not good tonight. Is it old?" The waiter quickly removed whatever the item was and offered him a choice of anything else on the menu." The gentleman at the table next to us ordered the lasagna, and was served a reqular looking lasagna with meat, cheese and sauce. He picked at it a minute then asked for it to be returned and "heated up."
They were out of the Clam chowder on a Friday night at 7 pm - a staple and yummy when it's available! That was disappointing, and although we had a reservation, we were seated by the drafty front door - also disappointing. Finally, normally their Carpaccio, which is somewhat over priced at $13.95 is much better, but this evening it was not the right cut and very tough - unable to chew through . . . . overall terrible this evening, but we'll probably give them another try, knowing that they are typically better . . . .
Service was quick and friendly tho.
Our normal server Kim was not working, so a little detail was overlooked. No Happy Birthday candles for the two birthday boys.
food is great. It is not a place you want to go to for a quiet romanitc dinner. It is very loud. If you are going with a group of friends and want to laugh and have a great time this is the place. Lots of big screen TV for the sports person in your group.
This surprisingly good neighborhood bistro is a pleasant surprise. With just a look around, you surmise that Capers is sustained and flourishes from local and repeat business by people that found it the way I did, by accident. The restaurant is rolling on a Saturday night, not only in the restaurant, but at the bar. The noise level, while not overpowering, was lively.
We had several of the appetizers and salads, then split the braised lamb shanks entree, more than enough for two.
The menu is varied, and others seemed very happy with the food. This place, while satisfying adults, also does very well with kids.
I recommend Capers. Enjoy!
Yummy, ordered the flank steak salad and it was excellent, the meat was tender and cooked perfectly, really delicious. Had the chocolate fudge cake for dessert and it was heavenly, came out warm and moist. Our server Kimberly was great, very personable and service was wonderful. Can't wait to return.
Always a bit loud, but the food and service makes up for it.
This resturant was very noisy! You could not even have a conversation in this place!
Capers is a neighborhood restaurant, close to me. Better for a quick snack and a ballgame than dinner, but some friends wanted to meet there. Overall, as usual and as expected.
I came with couple for the first time (Dinner at Local Restaurant). I order the first course appertizer and second course entree. It took 15 minutes to get the 1st appertizer and another 5 minutes to get the other two appertizer. The 2nd Course (Entree) came in at the same time. Quality of the food is great. The waiter was kind to give us the desserts for free but we were full after the dinner. Manager came by the table to check on us and the waiter apologized a few times for the delay.
My wife ordered the French Dip sandwich. The bread was soggy; no need to dip it in the aus jus. Had to eat it with a knife and fork. Otherwise, the rest of our meal was good. The appetizers and my meal (flank steak) tasted fine.
Capers was packed, they moved some tables in so close, that it was hard to get out. We have never seen it like that before. The food was salty, and afterwards it felt like it must have had MSG in it. The artichoke appetizer was good, tho. It was also noisy. We have been there many times in the past, but it is unlikely that we will go back anytime soon.
