Capers Ratings and Reviews
They had a pre fix menu for Valentine’s Day and we were not aware of that. It was not listed on their website and when I called to make the reservation, they did not mention it at all. They did not allow any substitutions and their kids menu was reduced to only kraft Mac and cheese. They raised their prices by at least 20% or more for the day and while our server was nice and attentive, the overall service was not great. I understand why restaurants limit the selection of items they serve on major holidays (mostly so the kitchen can provide fast service when options are less), Capers was not busy at all. There were many tables in the restaurant empty and they were far too rigid to provide any level of service that would be expected when paying that price point. Additionally, we were given the bill the second we finished our food even though we had full glasses of wine. We were not offered a desert menu, which we asked for twice, and we were still waiting for our waters that we ordered when we sat down when our bill was presented. Needless to say, we skipped what would have probably been an over priced mediocre dessert and went to Baskin Robbins next door.
It was very disappointing because we live very close and we were hoping it could become our go to restaurant for a nicer meal, but the quality of the food simply did not justify the prices we paid (even if they hadn’t raised the prices).
We came for our Godsons' birthday celebration. We've only been here for dinners or happy hour but never lunch/brunch. We liked the extended menu on Sunday with both lunch and brunch served. It's a little pricey but Campbell is expensive in general. Food was good so we're happy.
I like Capers and the vibe there. Was disappointed in the food during our last visit though. The chicken Parmesan was dry and flavorless. It had been pounded very thin so one breast took up nearly the whole plate. There was very little sauce or cheese on it. We ate a small portion of it there (the mash potatoes were good) and took the rest home. We doctored up the leftovers with sauce and cheese the next day and then it was good. My daughter always wants to go there for the steamed veggies (who argues when a kid wants to eat healthy!?) but this time there were only a small amount of veggies. I gave her my portion and went without veggies. I'm hoping to have a better experience next time because I do like this place and the prices are reasonable.
Used to consider this a “neighborhood gem” but the last few times we have eaten there the food has not met expectations. Steak salad is a favorite but requested steak to be medium and it came rare to medium rare. Even after returning it to cook some more, it still had some rare pieces. The chicken with panko was good but the crab patties on the salad seemed small.
Sadly, despite a reservation, Capers told us, including my 86 year old mother in law, that it was going to be a 20 minute wait. We were willing to wait in the car but when we came in, they said that it would be another 25-35 minutes wait because tables weren’t leaving due to the football game. Capers selectively honors reservations... needless to say, we didn’t stay...
They really could make some room for waiting. It was a total mob scene near the front door. Our reservation got us a table, but we ordered 3 appetizers, when the first two came, the girl that delivered them said the third would be right out. We waited long enough that we finally decided to cancel the order, and all of a sudden they appeared. We've been going to Capers for years, and it's our go to place for a night out, but wow, that was a huge disappointment.
Way too noisy! The service was good until the tables around us filled up and our server was way too busy to bring us our "free" dessert timely; we waited 15 minutes for the dessert (after paying and tipping!) and left without it! At heavy dining times, you need more wait staff! Also, the carpacio is very skimpy, should have been more meat on the plate!
A bit noisy on arriving at 6, half full. Central bar, dining seating most all around. Seat for 2. Overhead LED spot track light was randomly blinking, highly distracting.
Service fairly attentive, until later when it was gettin busy. Bus staff on it for cleanup, water and even brought boxes. But the wait for dessert was to long, we timed out.
Menu should cover most everyone's taste ! Great variety ! Tasty too.
We checked when we arrived for our reservation. The host took our name and did not say anything so I assumed we will be seated shortly as there were quite a few empty tables that had been set up. Then I overheard the host told some walk-ins that would be 30-45 min wait. I went back and asked the host 'how much longer' as we had stood there for over 10 min by now. The host told me that it would be 20 min. I asked what was the point of making reservation if I had to wait half an hr anyway, just like the walk-ins. He did not answer me and just pretended he was busy with something else. Mind you that there were still quite a few empty tables at this point. We were finally seated 20 min past our reservation time. The table that they sat us at was empty this entire time. Go figure!
Our server was actually very good and attentive. The meal itself was fine, nothing special. If it is not for the host, we probably would have a better overall experience.
Capers is a neighborhood restaurant with a large bar and dining area. I think they have a lot of local regulars. We go from time to time because it is near the AMC theaters. We hadn't been in a while since they have a much better (food) restaurant right next door. But I was craving their steak salad. It seemed not as good as I remembered. The steak previously was in strips like it had been cut off a piece of meat. This time it was more like medallions and was cold.
We had not been to Capers in a while and wanted a quieter spot, even knowing Monday’s already are. It was perfect. Basketball was on TV but not the Warriors so we enjoyed each others company, as it should be. Service was excellent. We started at the bar before sitting at our table. The occasion was our 35th Anniversary dinner with my husband and that fact did not go in-noticed, which was a nice touch. We both had the Orange Roughy and was very good! Veges also good and the rice was perfectly made with herbs. Great eve together!
Checked out the menu in OT before making a reservation and decided what we wanted to order before we arrived. We got there and found out that the menu had been changed a "looong" time ago. We didn't feel like ordering a $15 burrito (for example) in this loud and uncomfortable atmosphere so we bailed. The server was polite when I requested that she wipe the filth of the table.
It's a favorite movie night dinner place.
Go early for the Happy Hour ( before 6:00PM) or post movie, live music on some Fri & Sat nights.
At times ( especially Friday & Saturday evenings) it can get a bit noisy, but the staff is good a making you feel welcome, and attentive to you needs. Don't forget to make sure to save room for dessert. My favorite is the Berry's Grand Marnier.
