The food is delicious. They take good care of you.
We stopped by for dinner after walking up Lombard Street, and it was a great cap to our evening. Delicious food, great ambience.
The food was excellent, the service was great! It was my birthday and they sang Happy Birthday and comped Limoncello liqueur to us. I love this restaurant and highly recommend it! They have been here for years and are just as delicious and wonderful as the 1st time I came many years ago.
This was our second visit over the last 3 years and the quality of food and service hasn’t wavered one bit. Excellent both times and Casper our waiter was superb in making us feel like I have known him forever. The owner Michele Di Ruocco is equally gracious and I will not miss this restaurant on any trip to San Francisco.
I was looking for something near my office that would be great for a casual date night last minute. We were able to secure a table for two with no problem, and enjoyed a truly delicious meal! I highly recommend the pesto sauce that comes with your pre-meal bread! Absolutely addicting! I ordered the penne with fabulous results, and my partner loved the stone-pressed chicken and kale. While we didn't stay for desert, we each enjoyed an espresso, which was absolutely lovely with a rich chocolate/hazelnut flavor. 10/10 would definitely recommend again and again!
Wonderful food and wonderful waiters
We felt it was too noisy and table for four too small. The first time we ate at C it was quiet and lovely during the week. We also felt rushed. Told our waiter we wanted to sit and not to bring coffee or dessert right away.
Great as always!
This is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is delicious. The service is great. The staff are helpful and make you feel special. The wine list is good. The brick roasted chicken is a must and a special Italian dish which is not available in most Italian restaurants. The pastas and seafood dishes are superb. The white tablecloths and napkins make it feel upscale but it has a very warm, friendly, intimate vibe. We always enjoy our time there.
High quality classic Italian food at reasonable prices. The prix fixe 3 course dinner is a particular bargain.
Everything was good til we got to the end , after we finished the check we decide we wanted to get an after dinner drink and the waiter was not interested and rushed us out , other than that everything was decent .
Capannina is flat-out a terrific traditional, neighborhood Italian restaurant. We regularly take out-of-town guests because we can count on the service, food and wines in a perfect Union Street location.
It is always nice to go to Campanile.
The service is friendly and professional
Excellent Italian cuisine. Good wine list. Not too noisy. Very accommodating. We hadn't dined on Union Street in 25 years but now we are hankering to go back.
Favorite Italian restaurant - neighborhood gem!
Went to Capannina for a dinner with friends after a matinee performance. The food was quite good, the service friendly and efficient and all the people in our party were very pleased with the experience.
Great little Italian restaurant just up from Cow Hollow and the Marina District. Our waiter Sergio has an infectious smile and spirit that really lifted up our experience. The wine list is OK, just that they store their wines too warm. We had a recommended wine that was over the hill and again sered way too warm. Bring your own bottle, and order the Pastas or Cioppino, it will make your day complete!
This place was amazing! I would highly recommend for visitors and locals alike. The service was impeccable and food was as authentic as when I lived in Naples, Italy. Eat here and you will not be disappointed!
Food was awesome and our server was great. He really seemed to enjoy his job and had a smile every time he came to the table. The interaction was great and really helped make it a great experience.
Very nice feel to the place, excellent food and service.
This was our second visit to Capannina in 2 weeks and it was as good the second time as it was the first.
We, all three of us, enjoyed every part of the experience. Food and value was great. we will return with our family.
Amazing food, Amazing service!! The Cesar salad with crab was the best Cesar salad I’ve ever had! I had the salmon which was delicious and the tiramisu was the cherry on top that made this a very memorable experience! Moscato wine also amazing!!
Wonderful Italian restaurant, truly a neighborhood gem!!! Michele, the owner, assures every patron is treated like family. The food and service was exceptional, as always! I love to bring friends and enjoy so many different dishes---all perfectly prepared and served in a cozy and warm neighborhood environment. It is my 'go to' place--always a delight for everyone with a variety of different food palettes!!! Always a pleasure!!
I always have a pleasurable experience at Capannina! Fantastic food and service. Grazie!
My mom, aunt and I had a great dinner. The food was delicious and our server, Sergio was very attentive. We had a nice table and ordered some wine. We really had a enjoyable evening!
Service was friendly and polite. Just enough attention. We had the prix fixe which included a first, second and dessert. We were able to select from the regular dessert menu which is different compared to other restaurants that have a set dessert.
Are waiter Sergio was very fun and professional at the same time. My brick chicken was exceptional. We will be back!
Small and intimate bistro. Lobster Bisque was delicious with a hint of sweetness provided by the addition of corn (but this was not a corn chowder, definitely lobster). I had the Branzino (grilled Sea Bass) which was succulent, moist and flavorful with roasted garlic and fried parsley, lemon, and EVOO. Wife has the special which was crab stuffed ravioli. Excellent. Little noisy, but that is because of the small venue. Reservations a must as they only have about 12 tables inside, and four outdoor tables (with heaters). Highly recommended.
Nice restaurant but I found sitting to be tight. As recommended in other posts - we tried the squid ink risotto - which was as good as described. My biggest disappointment was my sea bass. I have had this fish in the past at other restaurants and have always found it to be a very buttery fish. Not here. Super dry - but my bigger disappointment was in the way the server responded. He just gave me a sad face - but offered to replace the dish - but at that point it just wouldn't have been feasible to get something different. We were charged the full price of the meal and I didn't even eat my fish. My husband got the veal and it was pretty good.
Loved the friendly, authentic feel of the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The portions were perfect and the food was delicious. The service was attentive and they had a great recommendation for a wine that worked equally well with all our entrees. It was an easy walk up from Fort Mason and we'll definitely visit again when we're in the area!
My wife and I went here for a special date. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic!
Valentines Day was very festive here
Valentine's day was good. A bit crowded so it's probably better on other days. Food was fabulous.
Go for the Prix Fixe Menu (only from 5pm-6pm)- otherwise a little pricier than other neighborhood spots. GREAT for Dog Owners as the staff has doggie treats and water bowls at the ready, but only a few heated outside tables for dining if you bring your dog.
We enjoyed the meal, wine options, and setting other than the noise. We were 6 people, and one entree came out 12 minutes after the other five. I had the feeling that we were being rushed because we were a 6:30 res and finished 3 courses, 2 bottles of wine and a post prandial port by 7:55. Given the disincentives, we'll go back again because we enjoyed ourselves.
Every dish we had, from the appetizers to dessert was very good. We had carpaccio and scallops with squid ink risotto for appetizers, both of which were excellent. I had the Branzino al forno (sea bass) which was absolutely outstanding. My dinner companions also enjoyed their main dishes (gnocchi, seafood linguine and some pasta with wild boar sauce, IIRC). Overall, excellent food, good service in a very nice little place. Highly recommend it.
Wonderful restaurant. Great ambience and service. Food is always delicious and healthy. Generous portions. Love the profiteroles! Wine friendly! We love this restaurant!

Excellent food, courteous, great prix fixe menu. Perfect for pre theatre dining (Magic Theatre).
