Everything about Capannina is soft and subtle. The decor - celadon green upper walls, ambra marble below, handmade glass lamps, hanging mirror panels and faux columns that glow from the lights behind them - is simple yet striking. The marble, the lamps, and many of the ingredients used in the excellent dishes are all imported from Italy and the subtle softness of the interior extends to the food: eclectic Italian with an emphasis on Southern Italian tradition while still maintaining well-orchestrated choices from all over Italy. With pasta made in-house and delightfully fresh buffalo mozzarella coming from Italy, Capannina offers the essence of subtlety in the artistic presentation of its menu, along with an atmosphere that conveys the slightest California touch. PLEASE NOTE: We serve a prix fixe menu, consisting of a three-course dinner for $30 per person every day from 5pm to 6pm. Thereafter, we serve a regular menu.

their "most popular pasta" boar pappardelle was overcooked, almost bland in flavor, lacking in boar. for a well-rated italian place's most popular pasta, it was quite a disappointment.

beef carpaccio was good, value is pretty good for your dollar, portions healthy

very nice ambiance, but a bit loud

We had a lovely dinner here. The staff remembered the note I made on OpenTable that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and surprised him with a tiramisu @ the end of the meal. Staff was attentive throughout the meal, and checked on us multiple times.

We went to Capannina for dinner on New Year’s Eve, partly because it had great ratings, and partly because it was one of the few places that still had a table for 4 available after 6:00 pm. We ended up with one of the last reservations of the night, but we were not disappointed. Every dish we tried was prepared perfectly. I can still taste the black truffle risotto two days later. I can not wait to go back next time I am in San Francisco. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal.

Food was great. Service was very rushed. Brought food out way too fast. Kept stopping by and rushing us. Felt like they were trying to move us through dinner and turn the table over as quickly as possible.

The deliciously cooked food was accompanied by very good but not intrusive service. The kitchen knows how to prepare the dishes to perfection. The seared tuna was buttery, and seasoned and seared just right, cooked to perfection and the Chilean sea bass was cooked just right, not over cooked. The Caesar with crab was light and airy, and the mussels were tender and not chewy. Service was impeccable.

Excellent food and service.
The Scaloppini and Gnocchi were perfect. Nice wine selection both domestic and Italian choices and reasonably priced, we had a red from the Veneto region which was lovely and about $45. Service was warm and efficient. We'll return again soon.

We had a wonderful Christmas Evening meal. The food was outstanding and the service excellent. The ambiance was quite and festive. Highly recommend a visit or two. Capannina is truly lovely.
