Everything about Capannina is soft and subtle. The decor - celadon green upper walls, ambra marble below, handmade glass lamps, hanging mirror panels and faux columns that glow from the lights behind them - is simple yet striking. The marble, the lamps, and many of the ingredients used in the excellent dishes are all imported from Italy and the subtle softness of the interior extends to the food: eclectic Italian with an emphasis on Southern Italian tradition while still maintaining well-orchestrated choices from all over Italy. With pasta made in-house and delightfully fresh buffalo mozzarella coming from Italy, Capannina offers the essence of subtlety in the artistic presentation of its menu, along with an atmosphere that conveys the slightest California touch. PLEASE NOTE: We also offer a prix fixe menu daily, consisting of a three-course dinner for $35 per person from 5pm to 6pm.

This place has been in existence for many years and unfortunately we just discovered it. A real find for those of us who appreciate a non trendy restaurant, but one who prides on tasty food, pleasant atmosphere and some of the best service around. It truly is a 'locals' place and although this was only our second time there, I foresee us going back many times over.

Relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Service is good without being invasive. Food is wonderful with a little twist on common dishes. If you’re going to go to an event, let them know when you order. They allow you to eat leisurely so we unexpectedly ran out of time.

From the moment we got there we were treated to a true dining experience: An attentive/friendly wait staff that was not overbearing, an atmosphere that was quaint and inviting and meals that were true culinary delights. The seared tuna with seafood risotto is definitely tops. This restaurant will definitely be on our return to list when we travel to San Francisco!

Campannina is the perfect “local”. Great food, comfortable environment, and very friendly, professional service. Prices are very reasonable and the sophisticated wine list is quite fairly priced. Just go!

Needed an early reservation before going to the nutcracker , but also wanted to enjoy a romantic date night. Winter truffle menu was awesome! Beef Carpaccio with Umbrian black $30 Carbonara with white truffles from Alba $60 She had the 5-6pm 3 course pre fixe for $35 1. Caesar salad with crab 2. Zucchini crusted salmon 3.choice of dessert (tiramisu) I had the two truffle items (Carbonara was split as a mid for us to share) and veal scallopine(sp?) entree. Food was outstanding and service was attentive, quick, but not rushed Truly a gem and can’t wait to return

Always a treat, like a little trip to Italy. Sergio and Michele make their guests feel welcome and special. The food is always wonderful, full of flavor and authentic. This month they have a special truffle menu in honor of winter truffles.

It has been been about 15 years since I last visited Capannina. It was great back then, and it’s still great today. That the restaurant is still thriving is evidence of its high quality, terrific food and value. We started with the grilled octopus, which we loved. And it was a good sized appetizer. Then we had the mozzarella salad, which was excellent. The cheese was tasty and fresh. We also orders the gluten free pasta with tomato meat sauce. They brought it out on two plates, and we loved it. You wouldn’t even know that the pasta was gluten free! My entreee was the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly. The large plate had four delicious lamb chops and some potatoes and vegetable. It was a perfect size portion,a Don really delicious. We also got the petrale sole dish, which was the whole fish, so it was quite a nice portio of fish to eat. It came with a side plate of asparagus, that was cooked perfectly. Finally we had the pear tart with the side of vanilla gelato., which was terrific. What a meal. And the server, was Italian and made all his guests feel like family. He made you feel like an old friend. He would chat with you, tell you about the dishes, about himself, cooking, and Italy. He would throw in some Italian words just to be fun. He was super friendly, knowledgeable of the food, and definitely seemed to love his job. What a great server for this restaurant! Yes, Capannina is a great restaurant, great food, cozy atmosphere, romantic, and fun. And the prices were reasonable. My only suggestion would be to add more Italian red wines by the glass, like maybe a Chianti. We definitely want to go back!

I had forgotten how much I love this place. Everything about it is excellent! They had taken my favorite dish off the menu, and when I mentioned it they said, no problem. And there it was. Such lovely people serving consistently excellent food.
