I always have a pleasurable experience at Capannina! Fantastic food and service. Grazie!
My mom, aunt and I had a great dinner. The food was delicious and our server, Sergio was very attentive. We had a nice table and ordered some wine. We really had a enjoyable evening!
Service was friendly and polite. Just enough attention. We had the prix fixe which included a first, second and dessert. We were able to select from the regular dessert menu which is different compared to other restaurants that have a set dessert.
Are waiter Sergio was very fun and professional at the same time. My brick chicken was exceptional. We will be back!
Small and intimate bistro. Lobster Bisque was delicious with a hint of sweetness provided by the addition of corn (but this was not a corn chowder, definitely lobster). I had the Branzino (grilled Sea Bass) which was succulent, moist and flavorful with roasted garlic and fried parsley, lemon, and EVOO. Wife has the special which was crab stuffed ravioli. Excellent. Little noisy, but that is because of the small venue. Reservations a must as they only have about 12 tables inside, and four outdoor tables (with heaters). Highly recommended.
Nice restaurant but I found sitting to be tight. As recommended in other posts - we tried the squid ink risotto - which was as good as described. My biggest disappointment was my sea bass. I have had this fish in the past at other restaurants and have always found it to be a very buttery fish. Not here. Super dry - but my bigger disappointment was in the way the server responded. He just gave me a sad face - but offered to replace the dish - but at that point it just wouldn't have been feasible to get something different. We were charged the full price of the meal and I didn't even eat my fish. My husband got the veal and it was pretty good.
Loved the friendly, authentic feel of the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The portions were perfect and the food was delicious. The service was attentive and they had a great recommendation for a wine that worked equally well with all our entrees. It was an easy walk up from Fort Mason and we'll definitely visit again when we're in the area!
My wife and I went here for a special date. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic!
Valentines Day was very festive here
Valentine's day was good. A bit crowded so it's probably better on other days. Food was fabulous.
Go for the Prix Fixe Menu (only from 5pm-6pm)- otherwise a little pricier than other neighborhood spots. GREAT for Dog Owners as the staff has doggie treats and water bowls at the ready, but only a few heated outside tables for dining if you bring your dog.
We enjoyed the meal, wine options, and setting other than the noise. We were 6 people, and one entree came out 12 minutes after the other five. I had the feeling that we were being rushed because we were a 6:30 res and finished 3 courses, 2 bottles of wine and a post prandial port by 7:55. Given the disincentives, we'll go back again because we enjoyed ourselves.
Every dish we had, from the appetizers to dessert was very good. We had carpaccio and scallops with squid ink risotto for appetizers, both of which were excellent. I had the Branzino al forno (sea bass) which was absolutely outstanding. My dinner companions also enjoyed their main dishes (gnocchi, seafood linguine and some pasta with wild boar sauce, IIRC). Overall, excellent food, good service in a very nice little place. Highly recommend it.
Wonderful restaurant. Great ambience and service. Food is always delicious and healthy. Generous portions. Love the profiteroles! Wine friendly! We love this restaurant!
Michael and Judi
Excellent food, courteous, great prix fixe menu. Perfect for pre theatre dining (Magic Theatre).
Great on every measure. We were six adults celebrating a birthday. Every plate was OMG, friendly prompt service. Noise level wuite loud - lots if happy people in vibrant conversations
Attentive service, delicious food- and spot on wine recommendations—- a fine, memorable evening!
This is a well-attended neighborhood restaurant. On a Monday night, non-holiday, it was packed. They are all about authentic, Neapolitan-area Italian specialties, with their menu truly an Italian gem (antipasti, primi, secundi, and dolce courses). Prices, however, were the San Franciscan norm - ouch. We took BART and MUNI to the restaurant so parking was a non issue (but it looked like it would be a problem). We chose this restaurant due to the reviews it received on KQED's Check Please (available online) and found that it met our expectations for a fine Italian dining experience. Come with your wallet full of money and expect a genuine Italian meal. BTW, between 5-6 PM, they do have a fixed price dinner which looked like good value for money.
Great. Service is very friendly. Good quality
ingredient. Delicious desserts quite a selection.
We always like coming to Capannina--it is close by, the food is excellent and it feels like "home". The only complaint I have from our most recent visit was the service was a bit slow and our waiter was too busy to completely pay attention. Not a bad problem for a restaurant on a Sunday evening but it needs to be watched and fixed if necessary.
Always amazing !
Our group of five tasted through the menu, the star was the filet of sole. Other dishes were about half-a-beat off; veal slightly tough, lamb chops a bit overdone. Disappointed with linguine and clams, very neutral taste, poor extraction of clam flavor. Pasta perfectly done, however. Not good for families, it is expensive.
We stumbled on Capannina by chance as we were staying at a nearby hotel and were first-time visitors to the city so knew nothing. We were pleasantly surprised: our 3 main courses (inc 2 vegetarian) were outstanding. Our teenager claimed she had the best ravioli she’s ever eaten! And these were followed up by 3 desserts that were the same calibre. Excellent Italian fare, a good wine list inc. wines by the glass, plus attentive, friendly service. We live in Melbourne, Australia which has some great Italian restaurants so we know what can be done. Capaninna is a gem. We returned a week later with a US friend and she was equally impressed. Thank you and well done to all who make it happen at Capaninna!
The service is personal and caring and professional.
The food delicious.
Great service, fabulous food. It’s the real deal Italian food.
their "most popular pasta" boar pappardelle was overcooked, almost bland in flavor, lacking in boar. for a well-rated italian place's most popular pasta, it was quite a disappointment.
beef carpaccio was good, value is pretty good for your dollar, portions healthy
very nice ambiance, but a bit loud
We had a lovely dinner here. The staff remembered the note I made on OpenTable that it was my boyfriend's birthday, and surprised him with a tiramisu @ the end of the meal. Staff was attentive throughout the meal, and checked on us multiple times.
We went to Capannina for dinner on New Year’s Eve, partly because it had great ratings, and partly because it was one of the few places that still had a table for 4 available after 6:00 pm. We ended up with one of the last reservations of the night, but we were not disappointed. Every dish we tried was prepared perfectly. I can still taste the black truffle risotto two days later. I can not wait to go back next time I am in San Francisco. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal.
Food was great. Service was very rushed. Brought food out way too fast. Kept stopping by and rushing us. Felt like they were trying to move us through dinner and turn the table over as quickly as possible.
Michele is the best!
