This is a repeat appearance. This is the restaurant that I go to again and again and again
We really like this restaurant a lot but it could use a facelift. Paint, art. Another bathroom if at all possible. And the noise level isn’t energized but rather annoying. I couldn’t hear anyone last night at our table
Been going here for 12 years. Better than any Italian in North Beach!! Love the salads, pasta, brick chicken and desserts!! Waiters and owner are great too!
Excellent food And good menu selections. Service was very prompt and courteous. Presentation was good as well. Food arrived quickly and was nice and hot. The wine was also good. A good list of Italian wines as well. This is our fourth time there and we’ve never had a disappointment. We will be returning as often as we can thank you Capannina.
Service was very good and food was great!
Beautiful and elegant. Excellent service. Pre fixe early dinner is a good value. Caesar salad with crab is very good, and desserts are outstanding. On this occasion the chicken and roasted potatoes were more greasy and salty than I remember. Otherwise they are quite good. An elegant dinner at a friendly price.
We loved absolutely everything about this restaurant. It’s been several years since I’ve been on Union Street and Capannina is right in the heart of what makes it a destination...shops, bars, more restaurants, etc.
Our Italian waiter was a delight, so personable and knowledgeable about the food and wine. He gave us lots of time in between courses so we never felt rushed and could enjoy both the food and our conversation.
We each had the veal scaloppini, which was cooked in lemon and wine sauce and served with spinach and risotto, very large portions and so delicious. We shared a half bottle of the recommended Chardonnay and a fruit tart for dessert. We will definitely be back...I considered not writing a god review to keep people from “finding” this restaurant, but Capannina deserves the accolades!
Friends get together. Great food. Service was great, almost too quick! I think we got in and out within 50 mins!!? Also servers were noticeably unfriendly - nevertheless would still come back.
Prompt seating at reservation time. Very authentic Italian bistro, friendly staff, knowledgable about the menu and ingredients. Not inexpensive, but good value. Suggest one night each week for no corkage fee.
Excelent restaurant in San Francisco for a good price!
Not impressed. Food was just ok. The service needs some improvement. We were served with a cold loaf of bread in the beginning and ended our dinner with the a restricted max 2 split credit cards only to pay! It was inconvenient to pay with cards so we ended up paying cash. Who limits # of credit card payment anyway!
Great find! Food is wonderful, tastes authentic, excellent time, love the Italian waiters, will definitely go back.
Second time we have eaten here and the food and service is excellent!!!
The best seafood risotto I have ever had. Excellent service.
I took my parents to Capannina this past weekend while they were visiting from NYC. I wanted to find a place that wasn't too loud, walking distance to the water and had good food. This place nailed it! The ambiance was amazing - super cozy, well lit and nicely decorated. The prices were very reasonable for what you were getting, especially in San Francisco. Most importantly, the food was very tasty and the service was great. The Gluten Free pasta was the best I have ever had. Although I am not celiac, I live a DF/GF lifestyle because I feel so much better. It can be really difficult to find a good meal that's worth the money when you have those types of restrictions. After dinner we walked about 15 minutes down to the marina waterfront and watched the sunset behind the Golden Gate. I highly recommend Capannina to celebrate a special occasion or just for a nice date night - either way, you won't be disappointed!
we ended up doing their Prix Fixe menu- which was a great offer and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We will be back.....it's a gem, conversation friendly and great SF waiters!
Great neighborhood place - the food is delicious, authentic Italian. The quality is consistent and it's crowd-pleaser when my parents are visiting from out of town.
Delicious, good value & excellent service.
I haven't been here in awhile since I moved out of SF, so I was looking forward to coming back here for dinner. As always, food was fantastic! It was great to see familiar faces, too. (They remembered me!) What a great neighborhood spot still!
Always good! Veal Picatta 10 stars. Honored reservation promptly.
A little pricey but very good veal with lemon, caper and butter preparation. Parmasean rissoto was superb.
Overall authentic food experience at a great ambiance. I would come back again but portions are smaller than expected and therefore, I would recommend getting an appetizer to start with
The seared tuna was incredible. The green sauce around the dish was amazing!
Fantastic Italian restaurant with great service! We enjoyed beautifully-plated dishes and will definitely be back.
We thought that there were 2 different soup specials. One with salmon, and one potato leek.
I ordered what I thought was potato leek only to find out it was one soup special with salmon as one of the ingredients. ( I do not like salmon). $14. When I pointed out that I had ordered potato leek, there was no compensation. The restaurant was out of my friend’s first course choice. The server talked him into another/ an $18.00 salad. The 2 ravioli dishes that we ordered were excellent.
The petrale sole was light flaky and the caper olive sauce was delicious!
The food is dependable. Always very well executed.
Great service. Delicious pasta.
Great service. Excellent food.
Great food, great service and nice neighborhood crowd. This ha become my go to place in Cow Hollow.
Love, love, love this place. Small neighborhood restaurant with wonderful service and gorgeous food. My husband had the lamb chops and I had the seared ahi over shrimp risotto. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and ingeniously flavored. The waiter moved us to a more secluded table that gave us more elbow room. He was attentive but not invasive. The $100 bottle of Brunello was a great value. Don’t miss the crab Caesar salad. The dozen oysters for $24 were crisp and delicious. We wish we lived in SF so we could go to this restaurant every week. Great value for top notch food.
The Short Rib Ravioli was very good. The deserts were nice. We enjoyed our meal. A nice addition to our visit to San Francisco.
Delicious food. Great service. We love it
We had a lovely evening. Service was charming and personal. Food was delicious. The filet of sole , the salmon and the cioppino were all delicious.
Fresh pasta and seafood. Great wine selection with expert recommendation from the staff.
Have now eaten at Capannina twice. Both times the food was terrific and outstanding for the price. Portions are large - larger than this 71 year old can finish. Service and ambiance are more than adequate. Only complaints: (1) Like many Italian restaurants Capannina serves up cold, white "Italian" bread as its only bread. Time to discover one of the Italian whole grain bread recipes and warm it before serving. (2) When the restaurant is full the noise level makes conversation difficult. The dining experience would be much improved is the owners installed some sound absorbing materials on the walls and the ceiling.
We love Capanninna and this recent visit introducing friends to one of our neighborhood spots did not disappoint. Pastas are wonderful - especially love the pappardelle and the raviolo. Insalate Cesare is another favorite. Nice list of Italian wines. Love the owner and staff - makes me feel like I'm on vacation in Italy but with only a short walk down the hill.
