It was fine. But in NYC you could do better. Food was ok.
Pretty bland food. The shrimp tacos had one shrimp in each. Good margaritas, though.
Service and ambiance were good. Chimichangas were excellent.
Food and drinks are excellent!!
The shrimp fajitas are excellent
The food was great, it was a little loud but that’s our only complaint.
Nice Mexican food in the neighborhood.
Guacamole was salty and the service was slow. Beautiful ambience and friendly staff despite lack of attention to our table. Food was pretty good, but there are better Mexican places in the neighborhood.
Everything was good as expected
I used to eat there 25 years ago when I lived close by. It's still delicious Mexican food and great drinks. Well priced and fun atmosphere. A neighborhood staple and worth the trip!
I first became familiar with Mexican food while living in Los Angeles over 40 years ago eating at Lucy's El Adobe (a favorite of Linda Ronstadt and her friend, then Governor Jerry Brown) and from a truck near my school. After returning to New York, I specifically sought out the few Mexican eateries that were around then such as the Cactus Cafe and Carumbas (remember the 'Ridiculous'?). Eventually, I discovered Canyon Road. What a treasure!
I have been going there for a couple of decades, and I can say that I have never been disappointed in the food, the drinks, the service, the price or the customers, whether at the tables or the bar area. Today was no exception.
From the host to the waiter and busboys, the staff were all smiles, attentive and accommodating from the moment of our arrival to the second we left. No special requests were frowned upon.
The drinks were mixed perfectly with just the right amount of salt (and cheap; it was happy hour even though it was Sunday).
Finally, from the slightly warmed chips/pureed salsa (the best anywhere, period) all the way through the appetizers (the guacamole was incredible), the entrees (the duck burrito is always so delicious it's hard for me to order any other dish) and the dessert (the flan was the perfect way to end the meal) made of this one of the best dining experiences in recent memory.
It's probable that this review might not sufficiently describe an incredibly enjoyable experience which was definitely enhanced by the overall atmosphere created by Canyon Road. At no time did we feel that we should feel privleged to have been allowed to eat there (this week, another restaurant told us that they may not be able to hold our reservation when we called to say we would be 5 to 10 minutes late), or that we were there long enough and therefore we should slowly get out.
Every thing about Canyon Road is consistent and top shelf. Forget about the rating cap of five, this restaurant is clearly a 5 plus.
We had a great time celebrating my son’s birthday
Great classic Southwestern fare that has not changed in quality in over 20 years. Love to go back to a place that is guaranteed to be consistently good. Service is very good.
Love this place for it's fabulous margaritas and its parilla dishes. Authentic Tex-Mex!
A favorite restaurant for us!
They had no heat and it was -5 degrees!
It was a blast and we went there on New Year’s Eve to get some great drinks and food!
Took a friend here for her birthday and we both loved it. Our favorite UES Mexican restaurant went out of business and this was our frist time at Canyon Road. The home made guacamole was a knockout and the chips were also exceptional (fresh, thin, not greasy or too salty, and lots of crunch). I loved the chicken fajitas, I'm not sure exactly how they spiced the chicken but it was extremely tasty as were the veggies. My friend had the roasted chicken quesadilla which she said was delicious.
Neither of us are really drinkers but we both had margaritas which packed plenty of punch for us. I highly recommend the pomegranate margarita on the rocks. If you prefer frozen, the mango marg was fantastic.
The wait staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They put a candle in my friend's flan and sang Happy Birthday to her which was very sweet. They also did not charge me for her dessert as she was the birthday girl!
While the prices were slightly higher than our former favorite Mexican place, they were not outrageous. Overall, it was a great experience and we will certainly be back to Canyon Road.
We requested and were accommodated with a quiet table in the corner,
It was unusually quiet and not crowded (probably because of holiday parties & not near the 5th avenue touristy attractions
Terrific experience overall. Attentive service, great food, value and delicious mango margarita....
Great restaurant with decent prices. Place has been good for years.
I love Canyon Road! It's such a warm & cozy place & the service is excellent. The food is consistently delicious & the margaritas are strong & the best I've ever had! The owner Ruperto & his staff are very friendly & always accomodating.
We often dine at Canyon Road. The service is typically good and the food consistently good and plentiful, special requests are never a problem. Love their guacamole and their chips are warm and delish! Refills on the chips is never a problem.
My one complaint from this past dining; I brought a group of six in and everyone enjoyed but you would think that the one cup of hot water w/lemon wouldn't be a charge ($3.25) when spending close to $300. It's just the principle so I will bring it up the next time we are there...
been going here for years. consistently good.
Service is usually excellent, but I think they were short-staffed that particular night due to bad weather. We were having dinner before our card game, so were trying to finish dinner by 8pm.
It was a slow rainy day when we got to the restaurant and it also just opened for the evening. Even though the service was acceptable, they were very slow and not as friendly as you would expect in a high rated restaurant. The food were OK, better than most. But it wasn't as fantastic as one would hope for with great reviews.
My boyfriend and I love coming here. It’s the only Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood that offers good food with a classy setting. The portions are pretty generous so I end up taking some of my food home but I prefer it that way. Service is impeccable. The waiters/waitresses are super friendly and efficient and the manager is nothing short of great. He is always there and very involved with the customers. We will be back very soon !!!!
I enjoyed the place. I would recommend it for others as well!
Excellent food, super nice service and staff. All in, wonderful experience for an adult family dinner. Thanks!
Decent Mexican on the UES. A little bit on the pricier side, although portions are big and the drinks are good.
Food is always colorful and fresh. Drinks took a little longer to arrive than expected, but not a major problem. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. Just don't know why it's so noisy! (It does quiet down after 9 or 10 PM!)
I used to love this restaurant but the service was awful. Food was not good, they forgot half our order and didn't seem to care.
This place has the best margaritas I've ever tried!! I went for my sister's birthday and they were just wonderful. They offer complimentary chips and salsa before your entrees, even at the bar. Whenever I dine here, I make sure to order the spicy peanut shrimp for appetizers, it is such a unique dish. For the main course, I ordered the chicken adobo. It is a big dish so I ended up taking some of it home but, no complaints! I just saved myself from buying lunch for the next day. For dessert, they presented us with their chocolate soufflé but the staff was kind enough to sing happy birthday as well as put a candle on the plate. I had a wonderful time once again. I will definitely be back.
Our appetizer and meal came at the same time which was not ideal. Our server was slow with drinks, chips, refills.
Canyon Road is our go-to spot on the Upper East Side. Food, drinks, service are always amazing. Only downside is that it is a little expensive. But that still doesn't deter us.
Great team service by all employees w/o being to 'in your face'
Quality , fresh ingredients and all foods perfectly seasoned.
Very nice and lively neighborhood restaurant. Good Mexican food.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Ordered 2 fajita dinners for the 3 of us. More than enough. Very good wait staff. We look forward to returning there
Food was great, classics with a twist. Cute decorations. The service was a bit off - they brought our appetizers after our entrees.
