Good, steady, polite
Excellent food, service and ambiance !
Birthday diner for my daughter
This used to be my favorite neighborhood restaurant. What happened?! I was very disappointed - It was loud, lights were bright and there was no ambiance. Tons of kids at 8pm (can’t be controlled) but I felt like I was at a local diner and the food was OK- not as I remembered. Sadly I will not be returning.
Bartender wasn’t great. Had to ask for new drinks
Love this restaurant and decided to take my brother and sister-in-law there. They loved it as much as we do. From the delicious frozen margaritas to the chips and salsa to the chicken fajitas, swordfish or Adobe chicken ... the food is alway great. Have never been disappointed! Truly, a neighborhood gem!
Simply, a surprise as I have lived in Mexico and it felt like a authentic experience, Excellent service and healthy food,
Food and drinks are great! Always a favor place!!
Great food, drinks and service! My friend had the Arroz Con Pollo and absolutely loved it. The chips and salsa were great and I always enjoy their variety of vegetarian options. The mango margarita is so good and strong!
Food always good and very good at modifying if requested. Staff friendly and attentive
the restaurant is on the downhill. Drinks are in smaller glasses, food was not as plentiful and there was a leak coming from the air conditioner which lead me to stare at a bucket on top of a table for the duration of my stay.
years ago this was one of the best places on the UES. Not any more.
Cramped, noisy, slow service, no air conditioning. What has happened to this place? Order in but avoid this unpleasant experience.
Nice food and great value
Good quality neighborhood spot. Interesting menu as well as classics. Great blood orange margarita
We celebrated Mother’s Day dinner here because the restaurant is close to where our mother lives and could accommodate a group of nine. Everyone found the guacamole to be fresh and delicious and the entrees to be both creative and very tasty. We were all very pleased with the selection of Canyon Road.
So happy we went to Canyon Road for Cinco De Mayo! Their Blood Orange frozen margaritas were delicious, and their enchiladas verdes were amazing. Chips and salsa came complimentary, and there was the most fun live music! The bar scene was lively, and in all, an awesome night. Can't wait to return!
Best Mexican/Southwestern food in NYC HANDS DOWN! The service is awesome, drinks are amazing, bar is fun. It’s my favorite of our neighborhood restaurants. I love coming to this place, always know you are going to get a good meal and feel at home.
Great salsa. Carnitas was ok but a bit too greasy. Peanut shrimp very good.
Waiter completely forgot our appetizers and side dish.
Decided to eat at the bar to enjoy open air and nice weather!!
Great atmosphere for a relaxing evening. A really nice happy hour with good appetizers at the bar. Bar gets crowded but fun.
It was fine. But in NYC you could do better. Food was ok.
Pretty bland food. The shrimp tacos had one shrimp in each. Good margaritas, though.
Service and ambiance were good. Chimichangas were excellent.
Food and drinks are excellent!!
The shrimp fajitas are excellent
The food was great, it was a little loud but that’s our only complaint.
Nice Mexican food in the neighborhood.
Guacamole was salty and the service was slow. Beautiful ambience and friendly staff despite lack of attention to our table. Food was pretty good, but there are better Mexican places in the neighborhood.
Everything was good as expected
I used to eat there 25 years ago when I lived close by. It's still delicious Mexican food and great drinks. Well priced and fun atmosphere. A neighborhood staple and worth the trip!
I first became familiar with Mexican food while living in Los Angeles over 40 years ago eating at Lucy's El Adobe (a favorite of Linda Ronstadt and her friend, then Governor Jerry Brown) and from a truck near my school. After returning to New York, I specifically sought out the few Mexican eateries that were around then such as the Cactus Cafe and Carumbas (remember the 'Ridiculous'?). Eventually, I discovered Canyon Road. What a treasure!
I have been going there for a couple of decades, and I can say that I have never been disappointed in the food, the drinks, the service, the price or the customers, whether at the tables or the bar area. Today was no exception.
From the host to the waiter and busboys, the staff were all smiles, attentive and accommodating from the moment of our arrival to the second we left. No special requests were frowned upon.
The drinks were mixed perfectly with just the right amount of salt (and cheap; it was happy hour even though it was Sunday).
Finally, from the slightly warmed chips/pureed salsa (the best anywhere, period) all the way through the appetizers (the guacamole was incredible), the entrees (the duck burrito is always so delicious it's hard for me to order any other dish) and the dessert (the flan was the perfect way to end the meal) made of this one of the best dining experiences in recent memory.
It's probable that this review might not sufficiently describe an incredibly enjoyable experience which was definitely enhanced by the overall atmosphere created by Canyon Road. At no time did we feel that we should feel privleged to have been allowed to eat there (this week, another restaurant told us that they may not be able to hold our reservation when we called to say we would be 5 to 10 minutes late), or that we were there long enough and therefore we should slowly get out.
Every thing about Canyon Road is consistent and top shelf. Forget about the rating cap of five, this restaurant is clearly a 5 plus.
We had a great time celebrating my son’s birthday
Great classic Southwestern fare that has not changed in quality in over 20 years. Love to go back to a place that is guaranteed to be consistently good. Service is very good.
Love this place for it's fabulous margaritas and its parilla dishes. Authentic Tex-Mex!
A favorite restaurant for us!
They had no heat and it was -5 degrees!
It was a blast and we went there on New Year’s Eve to get some great drinks and food!
Took a friend here for her birthday and we both loved it. Our favorite UES Mexican restaurant went out of business and this was our frist time at Canyon Road. The home made guacamole was a knockout and the chips were also exceptional (fresh, thin, not greasy or too salty, and lots of crunch). I loved the chicken fajitas, I'm not sure exactly how they spiced the chicken but it was extremely tasty as were the veggies. My friend had the roasted chicken quesadilla which she said was delicious.
Neither of us are really drinkers but we both had margaritas which packed plenty of punch for us. I highly recommend the pomegranate margarita on the rocks. If you prefer frozen, the mango marg was fantastic.
The wait staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They put a candle in my friend's flan and sang Happy Birthday to her which was very sweet. They also did not charge me for her dessert as she was the birthday girl!
While the prices were slightly higher than our former favorite Mexican place, they were not outrageous. Overall, it was a great experience and we will certainly be back to Canyon Road.
We requested and were accommodated with a quiet table in the corner,
It was unusually quiet and not crowded (probably because of holiday parties & not near the 5th avenue touristy attractions
