We’ve been to the brunch before and at that time had a great experience. This time however, was quite a disappointment. We’d made reservations more than 5 months ahead of this birthday treat. We asked for an outside table and they accommodated our request. However, shortly after seating us, the overhead misters were turned on. Our table and umbrella were at the convergence of two of the lines and the mist accumulated and ran off the umbrella in a steady drip onto our table. Had to stack napkins to keep the stream from splattering. Our waitress arrived after a considerable wait. Evidently she was also the bartender for the grill / pool area. Our initial round of drinks and waters were short a few. One in our party was told they didn’t have prickly pear lemonade, while we watched prickly pear syrup go into margaritas. Had to go to the bar for refills on waters or tea or lemonade. Our bill never came, so we went to pay at the front. They asked me to follow the seater back to the bar for our check. When the bill was brought to me per my request, it had a 20% gratuity already added in on our party of four. When I questioned this, I was told it was because we’d been seated at the grill! Who knew?!?! I mentioned we’d had terrible service and didn’t warrant what 20% represented. They didn’t argue and let me change it to 10% which was generous considering the lack of service we received.
Wonderful Variety of food offered. Had a great outdoor table seating. Mimosas and bloody mary’s were delicious. However, I had to clear the dishes myself all but once.
The menu for lunch is extremely limited, and the Fish Tacos were extremely disappointing.
This was are second trip here. We brought my aunt who was visiting from Ohio. We had been recommended this place by a favorite server at a different restaurant. We loved it. Great food, excellent drinks and a wonderful staff. One of the best brunch buffets I have ever been to. Perfect for special occasions.
Great food and service. Sunday brunch was excellent.
Such an enjoyable atmosphere. Chef Ken knocks it our of the park! Great staff too.
It was, as always, wonderful. A favorite place, despite the price, of all of us. Especially the 96 year old retired Brig. General we take out for lunch each week. We will be back soon.
Fantastic array of food offered at this buffet. We got to meet the charming executive chef and the service was lovely. The view is amazing!
Excellent Sunday brunch as always! Delicious and diverse options, always a treat.
Food was great. However, service was horrible. Was only served 1 drink during the entire brunch, no idea who my actually server was. I noted in the reservation that their would be multiple checks. The server dropped one check, charged cards incorrectly, and the entire paying process took about 30 minutes. This ruined the entire experience.
Really liked the outdoor food set up. I think better use of space should be considered inside as there were two tables, dessert and seafood, in the entry of the restaurant. Odd to have those two close together as well. Noise was a bit much, tables very close. Food quality was excellent. Service was efficient but not friendly. Perhaps too many tables per server? I would return when next in Tucson. Great place to stay.
Love this place and the brunch. We come often and are never disappointed. Just be sure to make reservations well in advance because seating can be limited (or not available at all) during most brunches...especially if it’s for a larger crowd or during the holidays.
Oh how the mighty has fallen. An environment with no ‘life’ plus that ‘great’ greasy carpet smell. Very nice staff, but we chose to source our food from the bar menu (Which is the better choice, IMO). It might be better in spring evenings when they can open the doors, but until then, sad to say: “Not worth the time”.
We ended up having to eat in the lounge area because the restaurant was closed at the time of our reservation. The food in the lounge area was the same as the Canyon Cafe menu. The food was good, but the prices are steep. We were also frustrated by not having a table when we had made a reservation well in advance.
My daughter was in from out of town and we wanted to celebrate with the Sunday brunch. All staff were outstanding, food delicious, champagne flowing and topped off with great and yummy desserts. The musicians were terrific. Two thumbs up for a memorable experience. I will be writing a great review with photos. Many tx
Me and my fiancé attended the Blues, Brews, and BBQ brunch. My advice, come very hungry. Tons opf BBQ, Sushi, Breakfast, and desserts! Endless mimosas brought to your table and bottomless brews. A live band to top it all off = a 2 hour brunch where you can get stuffed and entertained.
I have heard wonderful things about brunch at Ventana Canyon and unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The food was sooooo bland as though nothing was seasoned. We did enjoy the seafood section and the dessert bar as well as the champagne. We were so excited about all of the offerings at the grill but again, no seasoning and it was all very dry. That said, there were tons of people there and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves. I really wish it had been incredible but it just was not.
I have been to numerous Sunday Brunches across the country and in all the years I have been enjoying them, only two stand out as exemplary: Salty's on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon and the Canyon Cafe at the Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona. We went to the Canyon Cafe this past Sunday to celebrate my birthday. We live here in Tucson but still used Open Table to make a reservation (as we did at Salty's). When we arrived exactly at our reservation time the restaurant was crowded but we were taken immediately to a table with a "reserved" sign on it. We were seated right next to large window with a beautiful view of the mountains behind the resort as well as the outdoor portion of the buffet where the BBQ tables and grills were.
I was having a tooth problem and was restricted to items that did not require a lot of chewing so I concentrated on the seafood bar which was well stocked with fresh shrimp, oysters, mussels and sushi. I then found a platter with smoked salmon at the salad bar and got more than my money's worth there. I should also mention that from the moment we sat down our champagne glasses were kept filled until we stopped eating. (you can also have unlimited Mimosas or craft beer)
My wife, not being handicapped with a bad tooth, immediately went out to the patio and came back with BBQ chicken which she proclaimed to be superb as well as the BBQ'd veggies. There was also BBQ beef, prime rib and other meats available.
The last course was at the dessert table and the choices were almost overwhelming. The variety of desserts was amazing and delicious and was topped off by one more glass of bubbly.
The service was hard to rate as all they really had to do was take away the dirty plates and fill our champagne glasses but it was done cheerfully and efficiently and added to the enjoyment of the whole dining experience.
Whether you live in Tucson or just visiting, I highly recommend the Sunday Brunch at the Canyon Cafe.
I ate sushi and a cake. Sushi is not sushi, Too cold and poor ! 2 or 3 years ago, cake had more selection but this time was not cakes. only cookies, I do not like them.
Love the food, service, and the place. thanks for everything!
Christmas Brunch was outstanding! I think this year was even better than last year! Yes it expensive but so delicious and varied it is worth every penny! Treat yourself, outstanding!
Not our first time to Sunday Brunch and won't be our last. It's always a treat, and spectacular
The best Sunday Brunch in Arizona!
Brunch is always the BEST and the Christmas Tea has been a family tradition for 7 years. This year I have plans for tea with my family, with girlfriends the next week and my employers family the following week. It is the best Christmas gift I can give!! I love Ventana.
Way too expensive for Thanksgiving brunch. The shrimp, cheese were fantastic! Turkey , stuffing etc. So-so. Ambiance great!
Had Thanksgiving buffet and one of the best for choices, variety and quantity we’ve ever had anywhere. Service was wonderful, attentive servers, cooks at all stations who were most helpful. Outstanding and wonderful setting.
We look forward to the sunday brunch. Food , service and ambiance is 5 star
Alittle pricey other
wise we would come at least 10 times.
Yummy brunch with great views! Would dine here again.
It was very quiet when we arrived because they were steam cleaning everything; I assume they were getting ready for winter guests. We had to walk through the Barista and wander around before we discovered ho to get to the dining room. Although that was a bit crazy, the food was good and our waitress was delightful.
Fabulous. First time for brunch on Sunday and it was wonderful. Food excellent and so much to chose from. Fresh and presentation was lovely. Will definitely be a regular guest!!
Tone Blues & Beer Brunch has become a family tradition for our family when we’re all together. In my estimation it is the finest brunch I’ve ever eaten at. It has surpassed my old favorite brunch at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago. The grilled meats are superb, the mac & cheese is fantastic, amazing seafood, unique cheeses, velvety/lemony hollandaise covering perfectly poached eggs benedict and an incredible array of decadent deserts combine to make this brunch a cut above all others.
Amazing brunch! Wonderful food, setting and music. Would definitely return!
This is our third year going to the brunch at Ventana and we were not disappointed! The variety of choices from breakfast food to dessert is simply amazing. The wonderful vegetables and fruits fixed on the grill are also great! Having the mimosas and bloody marys included are just an added bonus. We'll be back!
Incredible food, atmospher in the Catalina foothills. Great blues band.
My wife and I have been to the Canyon Cafe at Lowe's Ventana Canyon a number of times for Sunday brunch. The food selection is waning and the quality of BBQ selections is fair to just OK. The prime rib must be "select" or lower grade...fat fat fat tough tough tough. Also, shirtless diners dining in the dining room should not be allowed. There were two shirtless diners selecting from buffet tables during our brunch visit yesterday, 10/15/17. Tasteless and tacky.
As always, everything was great. Love our usual server, Danielle. Will return soon. Great for the money.
A very nice experience with friends. The grilled meat and veggies were great. Shrimp were amazing! Desserts were enjoyable. Plenty of everything including drinks. Very easy to talk group at table. The music was a nice addition to the background. Will definitely return!!
It was the first time we had visited this resort in many years. It is, of course, in a beautiful setting. Although there were many options for brunch, the three stations (an up-three-stairs shrimp/oysters/mussels/sushi and desserts), (omelets and breakfast items with some salads), and an (outdoor grill with prime rib, salmon, chicken, ribs, and grilled vegetables), made it difficult to more around and impossible for my husband who has limited mobility. The staff seemed busy enough but yet inattentive and we took to putting our dirty plates on an empty table. The prime rib was VERY rare and fatty; the chicken and salmon overcooked. The restaurant charges $45 per person and automatically charges a 20% gratuity. I believe I prefer the Casino del Sol Sunday Brunch at $28.
The food, from seafood options to the prime rib were Delicious.
Staff was attentive to our "needs" and always with a smile.
Limited lunch menu, but we were able to find options that sounded good. Drinks and food were both decent, but not special. Overall gorgeous view of the Catalina foothills, but I would probably only eat there if I happened to be at the resort for some other reason.
