Cantinetta Ratings and Reviews
I dont usually ever write reciews, but I went to cantinetta the other night for date night, and Ive got to say it might have been one of the most pleasurable dining experiences Ive had in Seattle. Not only was the food fantastic, but the best part was how friendly and welcoming everyone was there. They truly allowed me to enjoy my time at my own pace, and everyone was smiling and kind. I will absolutely bring everyone I know here. Great food. Phenomenal service. Incredible experience.
Our party of four arrived on time. We were seated at a table obviously placed just for the New Year's dinner, right next to the counter where the food was plated and served up to the wait staff. There were always several staff hovering next our table making conversation even more difficult in an already too loud a setting. Our waiter took our order and basically disappeared. Service was excruriatingly slow, the kitchen was in the weeds and the time between courses was longer than was tolerable. The total experience was over three hours for a four course limited menu meal. The upshot was that servers brought our dessert and we had to tell them, after nearly an hour wait, that we had not received our third course. The hard flat chairs, while possibly tolerable for a shorter duration meal were excrutiatingly uncomfortable for the three hour siege we were subjected to. The food, when it finally arrived, was well presented and delicious. To make amends one of our party was comped a single glass of house wine on a $500 bill, pitiful.
We went to Cantinetta for our New Years Eve meal and did not know that they had a limited expensive menu for the evening. The crab tagliatelle and scallop meal was not great; however the blood orange salad and rib meal that my wife had was ok. We have come to our his restaurant a number of times and we’re dusappointed in this evening.
I've been to Cantinetta 3 times now and the food has always been tasty. The only thing to consider is they are very busy and you get that vibe from staff as they politely hurry you along your meal. If you want to take your time dining, enjoying your wine, appetizer, main course, and dessert this may not be the place for you. The second time I went to Cantinetta the waiter politely shared with us that our table is needed for another party. This was after they had relocated us from our original table to another table for dessert so they can fit a larger party. This past time I was there the waiter informed my friend and I that our table had been "repurposed" for another party. So long story short it is delicious but try to finish your dining experience within 1 hour or you will find your self relocated or repurposed.
This is an amazing restaurant with great food and atmosphere. However, the last two times I've dined here in the past 6 months, the food is very slow to arrive at the table and the service is spotty at best. Catinetta needs to do better on this front to shore up service and meal delivery to make it a more seamless and satisfying experience for the customer.
The food is wonderful, but not worth the wait and frustration to constantly track down your server for updates.
Chose this restaurant for a pre holiday meal since I would be dining with my husband and his sister and it was in the neighborhood where they grew up. Made our reservation for 5:00, when the restaurant opened, hoping to avoid the truly busy dinner hours since that seemed to be the one complaint on yelp - slow service when busy. Unfortunately, being a Saturday night just prior to Christmas, the restaurant was truly busy from the moment their doors opened...thank goodness we made a reservation. That said, slow service is the only negative and the excellent food more than made up for the wait. We ordered a couple of appetizers to share, seared brussel sprouts and roasted cauliflower - both were uniquely prepared, very savoury and full flavoured, and the two were amply portioned to share between the three of us. Our entree selections, Bucatini with braised short ribs/Pappardelle alla Bolognese/Lasagne, were delightful. The Bucatini was definitely the stand out dish but all entrees were delicious. We finished our meal sharing two desserts - bread pudding & gelato - perfection to top off what had been an exceptional meal. I would highly recommend Cantinetta. The staff were all welcoming and friendly, the food was exceptional - seasonal/fresh/made to order, and the setting was warm & inviting if a bit noisy. Side Note - enjoyed the window into the kitchen and being able to catch glimpses of the preparation process.
I have been to Cantinetta a couple times and love the authenticity and quality of the food. The menu reminds me of Trattoria's in Italy and I really like that their menu changes frequently. They have different and unique flavor combinations each time I go back. They are often quite busy, but each time I have been, I have had great service as well.
Fun place, great atmosphere. Service could be more. Wait people were great, but not good at reading our minds. For example, I had to ask for bread to soak up the juice from my clams. Who wouldn't need bread for that. Otherwise, very friendly, warm, noisy, neighborhoody. I'll go back in the summer and sit out in the sidewalk eating area. Very inviting. Will definitely recommend.
Great little spot, tucked into the Wallingford neighborhood. Grabbed a pre-dinner drink across the street, then were quickly seated right after they opened at 5:00. Our server was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and had very thoughtful recommendations. The menu is focused and relatively simple but delicious. Prices are reasonable. We’ll be back!
Terrible experience at one of my typically favorite restaurants in Seattle. Reservation at 8; told it would take a “few minutes” and weren’t sat for over an hour. We were also made to feel badly for reacting frustrated, hungry and impatient. We were offered a $45 gift certificate if we wanted to leave early which would barely cover an entree. Sad!
Fabulous food, altho the market fish of day dish was mostly a collection of brambly frissee with lumps of cod on top which didn't feel like it was worth the $30 price. This place was WAY too loud for us on a Saturday night and we found it hard to have a conversation. Will likely not return on the wknd again. But the atmo is absolutely lovely and romantic and the food was pretty delicious!
We were there for dinner with friends on a rainy night. The room was so welcoming, we were greeted warmly and loved our table. The restaurant is very loud which was our main challenge. Our server was very friendly and provided great service. Don't go here expecting quick delivery of your meal, it is leisurely and allows plenty of time for visiting and enjoying the experience. We started with the pork belly and arancini and loved them both. We ordered a bottle of wine with input from our server and she did not steer us wrong. We ordered two beet salads to share and they were delicious. Three of us had the rigatoni with fennel sausage and loved it. The other person had a pasta dish with mushrooms and was very happy with it. We ordered two desserts for the table. One was an excellent panna cotta and the other was a cake with figs that was dry but had good flavor. We love the ambiance of this place and will return often.
We had been to Cantinetta last year and were quite taken, which is the reason we went back. We were, however, VERY disappointed at this visit. We were seated back in a corner, patrons who arrived well after us got water, their cocktails/wine and bread before we did. The owner(?) took our wine order, then it was at least 25 minutes before we got our wine. We had to ask for it because it hadn't arrived until after our first course was delivered! The entire evening was slow, and there was clearly not the staff on duty to take care of a very full restaurant. We could see only one other server besides the owner. The hostess was serving food, the bus staff was serving food - chaotic at best! Sorry, Cantinetta - we won't be back.
Went during Restaurant Week to explore since we had never been there. Nice that all items were standard from menu not made up just for event. Excellent food and service. A bit noisier than we would have liked but not overwhelming. We definitely go back and add it it to our list. Menu changes frequently with some nice variants to usual Italian fare making them unique but familiar with great taste and variety for a small menu.
Best restaurant in Seattle. This is the go-to for my husband and I any chance possible. The service is the best in town and the food is incredible. Whether in an intimate setting or with friends and family it's always perfect. This is one of those places you'll continue to come back to after you move out of town every trip you're back. Fortunately we're not going anywhere soon.
I usually do not eat salmon out at restaurants, as it is often overcooked. However, I took the plunge at Cantinetta and boy am I glad I did. The salmon was a thick filet and was tender/juicy. I was beyond impressed. My date had the tagliatelle was also stellar. Then came dessert. We split an order of gelato/cake combo which was sitting in a puddle of fig/balsamic reduction and OH man was that incredible. The cake was madeleine like and was complimented by the vanilla gelato. It's a shame that licking a plate in public is considered rude lol The waiter was also nice enough to indulge me by bringing some straight balsamic reduction over to the table so my girlfriend could try it directly on the gelato. Highly recommend this if you have the opportunity. Using a balsamic reduction or well aged (read 20+ years) balsamic on gelato is a stellar combo. :)
