If you like terrible service, greasy tasteless calamari, and flat beer, then this is your place. Not that the staff cared, nobody asked. Formerly in the location of awesome Lola's, this spot has gone downhill fast. Will not be going back, there are way better places in town.
First time at this restaurant, Kevin our Server was EXCELLENT very attentive. Food was very good, it was during the week so not crowded - we would go back again and we would absolutely suggest it to anyone wanting this type of food. The only issue we had was the drinks for two of our group was SO SWEET - they took them back and they got something else more to their liking.
Nice place to hangout but choose proper corner if you are in mood to talk as place get noisy being bar. Drinks are ok and I am bit disappointed if Latin restaurant don't make right margaritas.
Food was good but the singing was very loud!
I made a reservation on Open Table and when I arrived at Cantina they said they weren't excepting Open Table reservations and turned us away. My group of six found somewhere else to eat/drink.
I came to this Tequila bar with a date and we had some appetizers and the Jalapeno Margarita's. The food and drinks were very good and we stayed longer than we anticipated.
The only bad news was a major fight broke out on the dance floor later in the night. My date and I just got fresh drinks (2 of them at $13 each) a few minutes before the fight. An out of control bouncer from Brother Jimmy's came in and started pounding his fist on the bar and forced people who were not in the fight, out of the bar. I thought it was ridiculous and what a way to waste $26!
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know. if you go, make sure you get out of there at 10:00pm or so.
Terrible cocktails, they should really rethink how they make them. Watered down and bland. Bummer, because great food and great service.
I went to Cantina for my 26th birthday with friends. The table was set and waiting for us when we arrived, which was an excellent start to the meal! We were sat immediately, brought drinks each time we ordered, and had our food arrive in a timely manner. Everyone at the party enjoyed their dish. They were very flexible with payment options for a big group and made us feel welcome. The margaritas were customizable, which was also excellent. I will definitely return!
Picked it randomly from open table and what a pleasant surprise! Absolutely delicious from guacamole with warm chips, to the tasty brisket tacos. Loved the blood orange margarita and warm churros with chocolate sauce. Pretty, colorful space would be good for a group, or families. We dined with our teenage children and will definitely return!
M husband and I were going to a 730 movie at the Avon Theater and looking for somewhere close by to have a casual meal. This choice was perfect. I was a bit skeptical after reading the previous reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh, not heavy, and nicely presented. The service was excellent. The margaritas were very good. The waitress and others who served our food were very attentive. At the end, the manager (maybe the owner?) came by to ask how every was. This is not a "special night kind of place", but it is one that we will return for a casual meal and drinks to when we go to the Avon again.
I was out with some friends and we ordered from the special drink menu. Two of us ordered a drink that they didn't have the correct tequila in stock so we had to choose something else. The drinks were all enjoyable. Dinner was lackluster.
Arrived for our reservations and were told that the Kitchen had already closed and the bar was last call. I was quite confused because I told the host that I had made reservations on OpenTable and had been confirmed. No one seemed to care.
Came to Cantina first time and although the food was somewhat good, the overall impression of the service is much below average. Our waiter was was fun and engaging but there is nothing worse than getting a check without being asked if you need anything else. They shut the music off and the lights in the dining room rushing us to finish our drinks and leave. And this all happened at 9.30pm when the kitchen is suppose to be open till 10. Now I understand that on a slow rainy night you wanna be home or elsewhere but if you are closing early, do it with a grace and find the way to make the customer feel somehow important. Don't just throw the check on the table and impatiently wait a foot away
But again, the food was delicious.
Fun, friendly place with great food! The menu is varied and the favors are terrific. Give it a try!
Should leave the DJ all day Sunday, because after Brunch was over at 4pm the DJ left and people started to leave! No good
Bottomless mimosas and sangria! The mimosas are way better than the sangria though, it was too light on the alcohol but did have a really good refreshing taste to it. The food portions were perfect and was absolutely delicious! I had the steak and eggs, my only recommendation with that is to tell them how you want your steak cooked. Mine came out Medium, which doesn't bother me but I would have like it medium well. it was still delicious! I am going back this weekend with a group of 10 just for the brunch! The staff was nice and my waitress was very attentive and made sure I didn't see the bottom of my glass. I would love to try and make it to see how their dinner menu is. The DJ at noon is a nice addition. The music wasn't obnoxiously loud so you could enjoy it and have a conversation without yelling at the other person. It was a mini party on a Sunday. I loved it!
Margaritas were very tasty and the enchilada had a nice lime flavor giving it an extra umph. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had an issue about the parking meters and they helped sort out. appreciate their friendliness.
Cantina has only been open about a month, and they're trying hard. Food was well prepared, but a bit bland across the board. This was especially true of the braised short ribs, which were delicious but barely evidenced their chipotle sauce (tasted more like Mom's Sunday roast than a Mexican dish). Guac was good, if mild, and a generous portion. Carne asada was our best dish. Price was moderate.
Our waitress was so nice and patient, she noticed that my mom didn't speak English and she spoke Spanish to her and make her feel right at home. Our waitress was very nice and attentive.
I went with a group for taco Tuesday deals are great.. Service was sub par. I ordered my tacos with condiments all at once so I would have them when my meal arrived , two friends arrive after me. Got their meals before I did . The bus boy ( who seemed to be the only one who knew what was going on and great) realizing this ran back to get mine. Obviously since I hadn't ordered from him he didn't know I alder for sides as well. Finally those came . Two others I was with ordered steak and got pulled pork instead . I could tell mine were rushed . Ordered guaca at the beginning of the meal and literally got an unmashed avocado no seasonings I had to ask for onion salt like to season and mash it myself.
All-in-all, this is not what my husband and I were looking for as a sit-down meal, but that's not to say that it was a terrible place where nobody should ever venture.
This would have been a great bar when I was in college. There were plenty of very intoxicated, scantily clad co-eds, the food was greasy, the mixed drinks strong and it was loud.
I'd never call this place "high end" by any stretch, but it would be a great place to grab a bite before/after clubbing.
Food, drinks & service was good. No complaints- I wasn't blown away, but definitely would go back. I like the ambiance- fun place to meet friends for apps and drinks. The music was good. We missed happy hour but they had great specials. We'll be back for HH soon.
Great service. Delicious guac and sangria!
The staff was friendly and courteous and the food came out in a timely manner! It was close to all the bars but had minimum noise. It's great for a group or couples.
Mediocre when there are better and cheaper Mexican options in Stamford. The biggest disappointments were the guacamole (I was expecting tableside homemade) and the margaritas which had essentially no tequila in them for 12 dollars each. I was incredibly grateful that they were open on Thanksgiving and that our server was very nice and helpful.
We eat here frequently and enjoy the food and atmosphere. On our last visit, it was a little quieter than usual - OK by us! I got three of the tacos - brisket with plantains was fantastic. Love it when the chips are served warm. Great salsa.
My first time ... The wait staff was hovering over us the entire meal mist annoying . We ordered two appetizers no one motioned they were similar .. Food was fair
Never going back
We eat at Lola's fairly frequently and generally have a consistently good experience. I have not been crazy about the new menu, but finally found something that I like so this restaurant is back on our regular rotation.
The food comes out looking good but it is almost inedible. From the guacamole to margaritas and tacos not one item was decent. I would not spend my money here. Service slow and inexperienced. I felt sorry for the waitress. Terrible experience and not sure how they got it so wrong.
Stopped in for lunch some of the best Mexican food we've had Service was friendly and fast would go back there
Actually made reservations for this place. We were seated right away, but after that the service stopped. We waited 15 minutes just for someone to stop at our table to order drinks and then after that 3 other waiters stopped by asking the same thing. Then when it came to order food the bus boy took our order . Overall the food was decent, but the service (or lack there of) really knocked this place down a peg. Don't know if we will go back here when there are better options in Stamford.
We went there on Father's Day to celebrate the day. The restaurant had a small amount of diners, but it felt that the staff was unable to handle the crowd. It appeared that there was no manager to oversee the crew. My family (including 2 kids) were sat down promptly. We ordered drinks and then it felt like 15-20 minutes before someone our food order went in. Initially the bartender sat us down to take our drink order. Then we waited until another waitress asked if we ordered anything. Based on that, there is no manager on hand to oversee the tables. Other than the poor service, the food was pretty good. We had the guacamole, wings, empanadas, and skirt steak.
Was one of the worst places I have eaten in a long time. Service was terrible , food was cold and took about 45-50 min come come out. The complimentary chips and salsa were brought to our table 40 min. After we were seated. They tried giving us the small glasses for our drinks ( which there is no refills) and other tables received the larger glasses we caught onto that after two tables in front of us received large glasses so we brought it to their attention and they said OOOOPS it was a mistake.
Went on weeknight with my boyfriend and had to wait to be seated, not because the restaurant was busy but because no one noticed us standing there. Sat down and ordered margaritas (worst margarita I have ever had). Waited around 45-50 mins for appetizer and another 50 for food. Food was average. We sat in their dining area but I still had trouble hearing my boyfriend speak because the group at the bar was screaming at the nfl draft.
Did not have to wait long. It was Monday, Cinco de Mayo, & there were no specials but we were told that the Monday drink special (1/2 price 16 oz Grande Margaritas) would still be honored. We received our drinks in the traditional glasses it was obvious that it was not a 16 oz glass. When we questioned the size, we were told that was the glass used and yet the table next to us had 16 oz glasses (the type used for soda or beer). They were not willing to give us another drink to make up for the difference. When the check came we were charged the full price for a 16 oz Grande Margarita. This was called to the waiter's attention and he said that there were no specials on the holiday. CONTINUED SEE BELOW
love their sangria and guac! Great to go out with a group of friends. Their margs are very delicious as well.
Came in the other day with a large group. We sat at the bar and did their happy hour and orders a few appetizers. We were presently surprised about everything. Will be back soon
We came in for a friends birthday and loved every minute of it. From start to finish the staff was attentive and drinks came out on time. The food was great and the chef brought out some of the new items they will be featuring on their upcoming menu. We will be back very soon!
Went to Lola's for the first time with my wife and kids. Great place for dinner with the family. Casual atmosphere, fair prices, and great kids menu!
Celebrated my birthday at Lolas. Lots of fun. My guests loved everything. Especially the food.
