Cantina Laredo - Birmingham
We celebrated my grand daughter's high school graduation during our most recent visit to Cantina Laredo. Each of us had a different entree' and our food was spectacular. We ended our meal sharing a couple of desserts which were awesome. This wasn't our first visit and it will not be our last. Our waitress was very professional, helpful, and very friendly.
Excellent Mexican fare but struggles to make the event memorable.
Food is always great but service continues to decline. They weren’t busy when we were there. Had to ask for things multiple times. Drinks were frequently empty. Waited 15 minutes for our check. Just frustrating when the food is great and they aren’t busy.
The food was fantastic and the restaurant itself is very nice. My two complaints are: 1.) it took the restaurant around 25 minutes to prepare our food after we ordered, which was surprising considering the restaurant was at 75% capacity AND 2.) our waiter was somewhat slow, and a few times our water glasses ended up empty.
After being seated for our reservation, we waited 10 minutes before asking a server who was passing our table who our server is. The person looked at me and said "I don't know." and was about to walk off. I stopped him and said - "Well could you find out, please? We've been waiting for over 10 minutes now and haven't seen our server yet.". 5 minutes later our server finally comes to take our drink order. After our margaritas arrive and I finish mine it is another 10 minutes before our server comes to check on us and take our food order. The restaurant wasn't even full! When I was looking around and observing the behaviors of the service staff, it was clear to me that almost all of them were disinterested in their jobs. Just kind of shuffling around and working very inefficiently.
The second margarita came with strawberry added to it (which I didn't order), was then swapped out for another regular one that was mediocre at best. After this the pace of service picked up until we paid our check. Food was good, but I can't recommend a place that has service this poor. This is an expensive place to get Mexican food and they need to do a better job if they want people to come back.
I went to cantina laredo on a wednesday night so it wasn't very busy at all.. It was not bad by any means but i have had it better.. For a wednesday night the food was not at its best like it is on the weekend. I do not know if it is different people in the kitchen or what but the food just didn't taste absolutely correct. I have had the same thing there before and it did not taste the same. Also the chips tasted burnt.
We had dinner with my brother-in-law and his family before they attended an evening event at the Civic Center. Parking was a breeze-right across the street and the restaurant comped it. Sweet! My skinny margarita was terrific. I had been to two dinners the previous nights, and my drinks were disappointing. Not here. It was perfect.
We ordered fajitas and grilled Maui tacos and split them between my husband and I. Perfect amount and perfect taste. The grilled fish was succulent with fresh toppings. The fajita dinner steak and chicken. As opposed to gristle at the other restaurant the night before, this steak was tender and juicy.
Service was quick without making us feel rushed. We had plenty of time to visit and catchup. Thank you for a great evening.
We WILL be back!
Had a great time at Cantina Loredo. The food and appetizers were excellent and the service was great. This is an excellent choice for dinner prior to an evening at the BJCC.
This is a great place for lunch or dinner before a play at the BJCC. The margaritas are wonderful and service is good. Nice atmosphere with good service.
Best fajitas in Birmingham. Can’t wait to go back.
I love cantina, however the service received this last time was not outstanding. Took about 15 minutes before our waiter brought chips & salsa to the table. When we did receive the chips & salsa, it was brought to us by someone different.
The waiter was quite odd also. Wasnt very interactive & seem to have a slight attitude.
Overall I will still go to cantina just not as often.
We were attending the Beautiful play. We found that Cantina Laredo had the highest ratings for the area surrounding the civic center. Getting there was tough because the roads are under construction in a year long project. We called the restaurant and let them know that we were trying to get there but the new roadblocks were making our GPS app useless. The staff was awesome. They totally understood our predicament and assured us our reservation was safe. When we arrived, they could tell we were frazzled. They quickly seated us and used humor to help us feel better about being late. Our server was terrific. He made sure we were quickly served so we could make the play. We were splitting an entree and salad. He brought extra plates without being asked. He was extremely personable. It was a great start to our evening!
Neat restaurant but very very loud. Service was great and food was great. Fun place to go and very convenient for events at BJCC
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! We are glad to see you enjoyed your dining experience.
Food & drinks are always GREAT as well as the service.
Breakfast eggs were dry (overcooked/scrambled).
Tableside guacamole-a little too much lime juice. Lime was the predominant flavor throughout.
Dinner was excellent.
The hostesses were great and the food was tasty, but the waiter SERIOUSLY needs additional training. He skipped the pleasantries and immediately asked, “What do you want to drink?” upon approaching our table. My friend and I placed our drink orders and requested water as well. I asked for our water FOUR times before we FINALLY received it....when our meal was nearly over....and then, we never received refills. It was tempting to not leave a tip.
We eat at Cantina Laredo every time we are in Birmingham. It never disappoints.
Dinner was good! Not quite as good as the Columbus Ohio location which I’ve come to love. Service was great! Drinks were good! Was just a dinner with a friend. Prices are a bit high for the fare. But overall a good experience. My tortillas were not made correctly.. extremely thick and doughy.
My friend and I decided to go out and have drinks and dinner since we are officially back in the city for school. I made a reservation for 7:45 and we were promptly seated. Our drinks were great, my Paloma was fantastic, the food was delicious. Our server Rachel was one of the best servers we had ever had! She was so attentive and funny, checked on us and ended up staying and talking to her for about 15 minutes after we finished our dinner. Overall we loved the vibe and we want to def come back and sit in Rachel’s section!
We enjoyed our dinner with friends before a concert at the BJCC Concert Hall.
The enchilada Veracruz lists that it comes with marinated vegetables. This had been a past favorite. However, the meal no longer includes the vegetables but the menu has not been updated. You also have to request the spicy salsa it is no longer automatically brought to the table.
The food taste great and the energy level is high.
Catina Laredo is one of the best Mexican restaurants around. The made-at-the-table guacamole is always great. This is the first time we had lunch at the Cantina, and it was delicious. Ingredients are fresh, the portions are not overwhelming but are ample, and everything was delicious. Shep, our sever, was delightful, and he was attentive and helpful.
We Enjoyed our time out together celebrating the Christmas Holiday.
Food and service was good however price point was high compared to smaller local places that have the same or better quality food
Very Good Food, excellent service. Perfect for dinner before events at the BJCC.
Delightfully surprised by inventive and flavorful menu. Excellent service. Delicious table side guacamole. Tasty margaritas! A winner!
We eat at Cantina Laredo every Thanksgiving weekend. The servings are big enough to share. I always order the guacamole. An appetizer, soup and dessert is more than enough. There are usually leftovers. We look forward to eating there every year!
Good experience. Just watch that the hostess confirms your Open Table Points. I got there early and they were able to seat me but cancelled my reservation and I received no Open Table points until I went back to complain.
Great service! Excellent food and drinks! Top shelf guacamole is delicious!
It was so cold we couldn't stand it.
Food great, service was very subpar and they didn’t seem to be very excited to be serving
The steak and the guacamole are always great. I had 2 seasonal winter berry margaritas and never tasted any alcohol in either of the $12 small drinks so o won’t recommend those or order those again. I’ve never like their style of rice or beans but knew that going in so no points reduced for that. Staff is always friendly and the restaurant is always clean.
Service was terrible considering there were only 2 other tables occupied when we arrived but the food was great was usual.
It was a great night, food was great, service was great! Everything was great! Thank you for a great night.
My first dining experience there. My Birthday celebration with family had reservations was seated promptly. Very good waite staff food and drinks delicious. But the place was so hot. Didn’t know if a/c was down or what? Only one stall in women’s restroom was useable. Actually, came back the next night with friends still celebrating my birthday and that apple pie desert was AWESOME!! Felt a little cooler than night before but was still a little to warm.
All staff who attended to us were friendly and professional. They showed interest in us and provided excellent service! Food was terrific, as always!
Best dining experience in a long time. We enjoyed the caring and attention on a Friday evening.
We sat outside and enjoyed the nice afternoon. The waiter was on point the entire evening
