Cantina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
This was a great place to dine in the North End! My friends an I were greeted as we walked in and were immediately seated due to our reservation. The service was incredible and the food even better! Nothing better than homemade pasta with homemade sausage in a garlic/Parmesan sauce!
Will definitely return for another visit when I come to Boston!
We have been to Cantina Italiana several times. Food has improved- we almost didn't go back after our last visit in the summer. But the wait staff is so friendly, the family-friendly atmosphere so enjoyable, we were happy to return on New Year's Eve. Glad we did!
We chose this restaurant based on the largely positive reviews. Arrived about 20 minutes before our scheduled reservation time and were promptly greeted and seated. Our server was very friendly and meals were quickly prepared with a very short wait. Food was average at best. I ordered a veal dish which had little flavor & my wife had a similar dish made with chicken. No sides accompanied our meals so I asked for a half order of pasta. A small bowl with marinara cost $7. Four small slices of cold bread came with some plain olive oil. No more was offered but was provided when we asked for it. I wouldn't return or recommend based on this experience.
Bread was bland, very surprised. Fish of the sea was lacking enough seafood.
Pasta was outstanding as was the mushroom appetizer. Bruzetta very good but just one slice of bread. Ordered Johnny walker got jack daniels. Ordered kettle one got grey goose. Ordered pasta side dish which never appeared.
Marco the waiter and Host were very sociable and outstanding. Some mixups on orders.
Went to Cantina Italiana for dinner Christmas Eve. Very poor service, waited a long time to have orders taken and to have food served.
Food quality fair at best compared to other North End restaurants.
Party of 4 was squeezed into both better sized for two people. Seats were very uncomfortable.
The one good thing was the fine service in the bar area while we waited for seats!
Perhaps service and food quality was off due to busy Xmas Eve,
but my experience was not at the high Open Table rating this restaurant has.
Our family enjoyed an impromptu night in town and were pleased to get a reservation with immediate seating on a Thursday (game) night. The food was deliciously prepared and our server was courteous and attentive. So pleased to have found this place amongst dozens of North End choices.
We planned an early dinner for our family who were arriving at the airport after a long trip back home for Christmas. This was our first time dining at Cantina Italiana. We chose it because it has great reviews. It was a very fun evening and the staff were all so welcoming. What a wonderful start to the Christmas weekend. The food was very good, our waitress was terrific and the vibe in the restaurant was relaxed and fun. Clearly this place is efficiently run and cares about their guests. Everyone was so gracious and welcoming to our group of weary travelers. We will return soon!
The reservation was available right on time and the Host was great. The food and wine were excellent. Unfortunately, our table was next to a small group that spoke very loud and our waitress, although very nice and polite, knew nothing about the food or menu. She had difficulty with the ingredients in the specials as she described them and wasn't even sure if pasta came with our dinner so we ordered a side of pasta to be sure.
The food was "North End", but the atmosphere and service was more like a "Chili's" or "Applebees".
The food is absolutely outstanding - authentic Italian fare and homemade pasta! Absolutely delicious. I had reservations with my family, and the four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The wait staff was also wonderful - very engaging and helpful - had a lot of fun conversing with him. Would highly recommend as a North End treasure - there are a lot of fabulous restaurants in Boston's North End, and this has got to be one of the tops!
We had a fantastic meal at Cantina Italiana! The decor is typical North End - somewhat outdated, but still manages to be charming. That being said, our food was outstanding. We had an antipasti platter to start that couldn't have been better and our pasta dishes were superb. Their homemade sausage had tremendous flavor that really added to the dish. I would highly recommend going to Cantina Italiana!
We had an absolutely fabulous dinner for a holiday gathering with friends. Every person raved about their entrée and the meals were served piping hot and with generous portions. I am not a wine drinker although my friends loved the selection and I appreciated the wide array of cocktails. Relaxed but lovely atmosphere, we really felt like we were being entertained in someone’s home. Would definitely recommend it !
We deeply enjoyed our dinner at Cantina Italiana! It reminded us of our trips to Italy in so many ways, and especially appreciated the warm welcome we received. Our waitperson was super-attentive, and our dishes were delicious! They also gave us a quiet table in the corner, exactly as we requested. We'll be back!!!
The food at Cantina Italiana was amazing. We spent a week in Boston and ate at several Italian restaurants. While they were all good. Cantina Italiana was over the top. We had the frutti de mare special. It was loaded with seafood, the sauce was fresh and perfectly spiced. Everything was fantastic. I wish we would get such good food in Colorado.
We were warmly greeted by the host and seated immediately. Our appetizers (Arancini, Meatballs and Calamari) and main courses (Chicken Parmagiana, Fettucini al Salmone, Cavatelli with Sausage and Broccoli and were very very good. The restaurant was spacious (unusual for Hanover St. establishments), well lit and continuously full throughout our meal. We had other plans for dessert so our meal ended after the main course. We would recommend this establishment to our friends as a very good neighborhood spot.
After arriving, I realized I had been there before with my husband. This time we were with a large group of 6 adults and 3 young children (ages 4-8) and n infant. I'd imagine we'd be a lot to handle for the most seasoned waitstaff yet Andrew (and Amanda who was in training) managed our party with ease. Andrew and Amanda were friendly, easy-going and attentive, which helped make our 'experience.' Turning to the food, every last one of us was satisfied with our lunch choices. It was tough to choose from the start with so many great appetizers, pasta dishes and entrees. We ordered two calamari for the table and bruschetta--both delicious! I don't remember all the dishes on the table, but each looked as tasty as the next. I went with a favorite--potato gnocchi. We really enjoyed our time and never once felt rushed. A True Italian Experience! I'd definitely go there again so I have no problem recommending it to others!
This restaurant is my new North End favorite! I have dined quite often in the North End but this place is cozy, comfortable and very reasonable. Wide selection of Italian dishes and the wait staff could not be nicer. I came with my Italian family and we loved it!!
We made reservations for 7 for lunch. Always worried about dining with a big group, but the round table in the window was perfection! We felt like the only table in the house, while the restaurant was busy with the lunch crowd. The food was amazing, and we samples everything from the bruschetta, pizza's, meatballs and a seafood entree. The service was impeccable.
