Fried calamari tossed with hot cherry peppers, served with marinara sauce
Learned this is one of the oldest italian restaurants in the area and it didn't disappoint. Our server was actually Italian! Big portions and great food. Well priced cocktails and wine list. If you want a traditional italian dining experience this is a great choice.
I'd eaten here years before. I returned with friends as I still recalled how great the food & service. I misread the menu & ordered the incorrect entree. They were so generous to quickly correct despite this being MY mistake. I'd recommend & return!
Amazing food and great atmosphere! Main dish took a little long to come out but was worth the wait. Loved the Bombolotti pasta dish.
Great spot in North End. Was very busy. Service was slow as a result but still very enjoyable.
Excellent service. Food was good as well. We ordered two glasses of champagne, did not realize that it offers the champagne on the bottle. We asked the waiter whether we could switch to the bottle instead of the glass, though we have already consumed half of the glass. The waiter was very kind, he offered us the bottle without charging us on the glass order. This is unexpected kindness. Highly recommended for this family run customer friendly place. Must have desert!
Amazing service, they treat you like you’ve known each other for years. Amazing food every time I go there
We were visiting Boston and had a great experience here. The food was excellent as well as the service! Great portion sizes and great quality.
Great environment for casual dining. Best Italian restaurant in the North End!
Phillipo was our server and he was such an attentive waiter. Made the evening so special! Food was delicious. We had both items on the menu and the special which was lobster ravioli in the vodka sauce. Phillipo recommended a wonderful bottle of wine to pair with our meals. It was my parents anniversary and they went above and beyond to make it very special. We will definitely be back! 10/10
Great food and Matt did a wonderful job taking care of us! We will be back!
The waiter Phillipe was great.
Busy, maybe to busy. Food was good took a little long and came out cool to the touch. You can tell it was sitting there for a period of time. I would try again and hope the food is hotter next time.
We really enjoyed our dinner here. We had the best seat in the house, at the front window which were wide open this beautiful evening. Given the COVID situation, the window open, and sanitizer right on the dining table to use as needed, all servers masked, we felt they gave good precautions to this virus.
Our only complaint was that the wine cellar seemed to be lacking. We ordered champagne that was not available and our first choice of wine was out as well. We will give them a pass as it must be hard to keep a full inventory during these trying times as a restaurant.
The place has lots of charm with the hand painted murals and friendly and prompt servers.
The staff was very attentive and friendly. Their homemade bread and pasta was out-of-this world. We will definitely go back.
Tables too close together. Hanover Street extremely noisy and disruptive. Many people without masks. Waited almost half an hour to be seated. No time limits in place as required. People sitting drinking at bar in restaurant without food. Food was delicious but our meals were mixed up and just an apology was offered. Prices high. $7 to add pasta to your meal.
We picked this restaurant based on availability at 7pm on a Saturday night. We were blown away! We shared the Polpette (meatball appetizer) and the Caprese. Both arrived plated beautifully and they tasted even better. Our waiter Matt was very helpful when we couldn't decide what to order. We all got 4 different dishes and loved all of them. Saltimbocca di Pollo, Parmigiana di Pollo, Shrimp Scampi and Bombolotti with chicken, hot cherry peppers and sweet sausages. I would definitely come back and recommend you give it a try.
The food here is 100/10. The service here is 10000/10. I would recommend this place to every single person. I felt like I was eating dinner with my family. Honestly exactly what I needed in these COVID times. This place brought me so much joy. Thank you !
Did not follow proper Covid-19 procedures, very overcrowded. Had a reservation for 730 outside, got sat at 815 inside... will not be back
Dinner was great and the service was amazing !
Would definitely go again.
Lovely staff. Excellent service🥰
Just perfect. Manager Omar took a special interest. He didn’t have to. The food and service spoke for itself. Two manhattans, Castelvetrano olives appetizer, Milanese veal chop, and a beautiful slightly spicy sausage and broccoli rabe pasta. Just delicious. Matthew our waiter was spot on. Will definitely be back when in Boston.
Another GREAT experience. Food was wonderful! Filippo, our sever was awesome. He makes us feel like family and is a real professional. We will be back soon.
We had the best experience at Cantina Italiana! It was definitely a busy night, but our waiter was doing an amazing job. Such good food and the drinks are great too!
Love it here! Great food and service. Staff was fantastic
This was are first time dining at Cantina Italiana. It was a beautiful evening and because of Covid, we were sat outside. It made the night wonderful, like dining it Italy. We had a 6pm reservation and we were seated right on time. Our server, Filippo, greeted us with a smile we could see even through his mask. He was amazing. Very efficient. You could tell he enjoyed his job and had been serving for a long time. The food was served with no delays and was traditional homemade Italian with fresh ingredients. All four of us enjoyed our meals. We will be back very soon. Thank you to all.
Delicious meal. Good service. Outdoor dining on Hanover Street may be one of the only great things to come from this pandemic!
Service was great and attentive. Food was delicious and hot. Great value for the North End.
The food, service and value was unbeatable for the north end in Boston! Best experience I’ve had on Hanover St!
We went for restaurant week. Eggplant parm was amazing, calamari was decent. Server was awesome & very friendly. Service was slow due to high volume of people on a Friday night but he offered us limoncello on the house for the wait.
I specifically selected the outdoor option when making the reservation. When we showed up, the owner tried to show us to a table inside and when I pushed back and said our reservation was for outside, he said there wasn't a table available and we had to wait an additional 15 minutes. When we sat down, it took quite a while for our drinks to come out. By the time we got our entrees it had been an hour. The raviolis were clearly frozen and bland. Food was not great. When we were wrapping up desert, the owner came over to us again and said we were up against the 90 minute time limit and started clearing our plates before we were done. We had already given the waiter our credit cards and were being pushed out the door when it took the kitchen an hour to get the food out to begin with. Wont be back, and definitely dont recommend.
Good food, normal portions. Service is very good.
Fantastic service from our waiter (Anthony?). Sat at the window and loved every minute of it. Pasta was fantastic, as were the tiramisu and cannoli.
Server was super respectful, manager greeted us warmly, food was fantastic, experience was amazing
Second time here and just as good as the first. The only caveat is that you can still end up waiting in line as they can’t distinguish outside reservations so they get too many people wanting those tables. We waited about 15 min which was fine. The food was awesome as was the service. We had chicken parmesan and shrimp & lobster fra diablo. The last time I had the veal Parmesan which was amazing. Don’t know why more people aren’t talking about this place. Worth the night out and outside seating is a plus but know that it is a bit tight out there.
Food was solid, nothing above average across the six of us who dined. Service was subpar, just incredibly slow and disorganized. Also, despite having an Open Table reservation and arriving a few minutes early, we were told to wait in line, which we did until eventually a table for six opened - about 35-40 min later. What’s the point of the reservation?
One of my favorites! Good food, service and these days, you can eat outside. Highly recommend.
My wife and I have been going to the Cantina for years. The meal this evening was the best ever. Delicious veal chop parmigiana. Excellent service. Great night.
It was great sitting outside. Tables were a good distance apart. Food was great except my chicken cutlet a bit burnt and when they messed up on an order it was not a fresh dinner just recycled the mistake. But I would still go back. I have been there before and it was great. It is not the most amazing restaurant in North End but a good staple for traditional Italian.
