Cantina Italiana Ratings and Reviews
We deeply enjoyed our dinner at Cantina Italiana! It reminded us of our trips to Italy in so many ways, and especially appreciated the warm welcome we received. Our waitperson was super-attentive, and our dishes were delicious! They also gave us a quiet table in the corner, exactly as we requested. We'll be back!!!
The food at Cantina Italiana was amazing. We spent a week in Boston and ate at several Italian restaurants. While they were all good. Cantina Italiana was over the top. We had the frutti de mare special. It was loaded with seafood, the sauce was fresh and perfectly spiced. Everything was fantastic. I wish we would get such good food in Colorado.
We were warmly greeted by the host and seated immediately. Our appetizers (Arancini, Meatballs and Calamari) and main courses (Chicken Parmagiana, Fettucini al Salmone, Cavatelli with Sausage and Broccoli and were very very good. The restaurant was spacious (unusual for Hanover St. establishments), well lit and continuously full throughout our meal. We had other plans for dessert so our meal ended after the main course. We would recommend this establishment to our friends as a very good neighborhood spot.
After arriving, I realized I had been there before with my husband. This time we were with a large group of 6 adults and 3 young children (ages 4-8) and n infant. I'd imagine we'd be a lot to handle for the most seasoned waitstaff yet Andrew (and Amanda who was in training) managed our party with ease. Andrew and Amanda were friendly, easy-going and attentive, which helped make our 'experience.' Turning to the food, every last one of us was satisfied with our lunch choices. It was tough to choose from the start with so many great appetizers, pasta dishes and entrees. We ordered two calamari for the table and bruschetta--both delicious! I don't remember all the dishes on the table, but each looked as tasty as the next. I went with a favorite--potato gnocchi. We really enjoyed our time and never once felt rushed. A True Italian Experience! I'd definitely go there again so I have no problem recommending it to others!
This restaurant is my new North End favorite! I have dined quite often in the North End but this place is cozy, comfortable and very reasonable. Wide selection of Italian dishes and the wait staff could not be nicer. I came with my Italian family and we loved it!!
We made reservations for 7 for lunch. Always worried about dining with a big group, but the round table in the window was perfection! We felt like the only table in the house, while the restaurant was busy with the lunch crowd. The food was amazing, and we samples everything from the bruschetta, pizza's, meatballs and a seafood entree. The service was impeccable.
Experience was perfect as soon as we entered the door. Alberto welcomed us and gave us recommendations. He was spot on. We ordered 4 different entrees and each one was delicious. The service was timed beautifully to give us enough time to chat and enjoy our wine. Highly recommend.
If you are looking for a quiet evening, Cantina is NOT for you. It is a classic of the North End, always busy and noisy and fun. The manager works extremely hard to get people seated and insures that everyone is having a good time. The food is delicious.
On weekends, a wait for a table (even with a reservation) is to be expected. Find a spot at the bar, where you will meet interesting locals or tourists, and enjoy the experience.
We have enjoyed Cantina since we lived in Boston and go there on every visit back.
This was one of the best meals I have ever had!! The host was so kind and welcoming and our food was delicious. My boyfriend loved the veal parm and I am still dreaming about the homemade raviloi. Get the mussels as an appetizer with the garlic sauce -- amazing!!!
We eat here every time we come to Boston to visit our son. This time some friends joined us for the trip. Being from New York we are use to some of the finest food in the world. Cantina Italiana has never let us down. Six people for dinner, Six happy campers. Great comfort food and a great wine list. What more does one need?
2nd time coming here and it never seems to disappoint . I brought some friends from out of town here and family . The go to Italian place in the north end for a
Cozy authentic feel . The owner greets you and the door and the staff is fast and efficient
And truly loves what they do.
Cantina Italiana has been around for a long time and there is a good reason. The food is consistently good, although not great. It is not the place to go if you are seeking innovative cuisine. We were there with our adult children and one of their friends. We were seated in a lovely table in the front and the service was somewhat attentive. We ordered an appetizer to share, then a salad course and the main courses. The waitress was knowledgeable and helpful about the wine list. I ordered the shrimp scampi which I thought was very good, the way shrimp scampi should be. My 19 year old son had a chicken and broccoli dish that he said was the "best meal he ever had". The other people at the table were underwhelmed with their dishes, a sausage and pasta dish, the veal parmiagiana and the bolognese. The one big negative was that it took an extremely long time for our main courses to come after the salad course.....at least 45 minutes which I think is about 1/2 hour too long. I would recommend this restaurant for people who want authentic, traditional Italian food, in a place with a nice ambiance, but only if they aren't in a hurry.
This place is consistently great - for 20 plus years now. The meals are reasonably sized (this is not Olive Garden) leaving room for coffee and torte, mussels are the freshest I've had in a long time, wine was good temp, and waiter was attentive and gave good suggestions. You know you're at the right place if the Host greats you and talks with you... love this place
Great food in a fun atmosphere. Service was exceptional and the food (particularly fresh pasta, seafood, and bolognese) was incredible. Our family had a wonderful experience and wouldn't hesitate to return! The only drawbacks would be if you didn't make a reservation, the wait can be long... and it is noisy, but that is part of the charm!
