Amazing great food and great service!

Savory bread pudding was the best brunch dish I have had at Canteen yet. Hoping this makes it onto the regular menu!

Had the brunch special (savoury bread pudding) and it was very good.

The food is exceptional, service is wonderful and the owner is so friendly.

I just wish they had French press coffee

I arrived for my 10am reservation, and as we were greeted by a host who welcomed us in. Behind was another couple, who was taken care of before us. Their reservation was for 10:15, so they were early, but sat at their table first and offered drinks before our reservation. The bacon was served cold. We had no waitress return to refill water or coffee nor to address the cold bacon. Paid the bill at the first sight of a waitress and headed to Doughnut Party to eat.

Excellent place! Fun, friendly, great for many different occasions.

Menu is small but 4 different entrees were ordered and all 4 were delicious. Very good value compared to similar restraunts.

Came here for the first time for brunch around 12:30. I had the flapjacks and a side of hash browns (a bit of a different take on them) and both were delicious! Great service fast and friendly. Will be coming back.

This place is a gem that has never failed to please. The food has an elevated niche that has always risen to the many occasions that have necessitated it's need.

I've been here three times, twice for brunch and once for dinner. The first two times were overall excellent. However, my recent visit was disappointing when it came to the service. I made a reservation for noon I arrived at 12:02pm and was told by the co-owner they were "working on a table", the rest of my group arrived and we were left waiting at the front for 10-15 min until a server asked if we had been helped. I explained that I had a reservation for noon and was told that a table wasn't ready. That server said "oh, there's a definitely a table for you" and immediately moved two tables together and had us seated. Strange situation, especially since the low quality of service came from the co-owner. High rating for the food because it's always FANTASTIC.

Food was excellent, the restaurant was very lively, and our table was nice near the windows. Our server seemed slightly put off by simple questions. When ordering coffee, she could have informed us they only did espresso based drinks (which I can didn't know), instead of just answering "Americano?" Also, I needed to order my eggs cooked all the way through, as I'm pregnant, and she reacted very confused, as though she had never been asked such a thing. Overall, we had a great time, but felt we were inconveniencing our server with simple menu related questions.

The waitress was a bit cold and the food is not what I’ve come to expect from Canteen; just an off day, I guess.

Everything was fabulous. Can’t wait to go back again.

I appreciated that they kept to their reservation times and easily accommodated gluten free options. Service was impeccable and the coffee brewed to perfection, and of course the food was very good too.

I have to say, their food quality has gone down ever since the server there told me about the change with their chef a while ago. Don't taste the same anymore. Service was almost next to nothing. Our server did not come by ONCE to check on the food, water, or coffee. Just not the greatest customer experience for any type of restaurant, not to say the price for food and drinks is considered as a typical fine diner. My girlfriend and I used to love this place, but we might not go back there anymore, at least not until we forget about this past experience.

Food was good and cocktails were great! Need to order appitisers as portions are not large. Menue could use some more green options, as I believe there is only one salad on the menu. Overall good food , great atmosphere.

Beautiful little restaurant. The shareable small plates were delicious with great presentation as were the mains. Great service, great wine, great ambiance. We’ll be back.

Still on of my favourite places to go when heading downtown. The food is amazing, filling and worth the wait. My husband and I always get the corn fritters appetizers as well as split a meal based on the amount of food.

Good food. Decent service. Loud. Needs something soft on the walls. In the reservation mentioned coming for a birthday but it wasn’t acknowledged

Very energetic - just a bit too load for brunch with my mom. Great food.
Maybe not for serious coffee drinkers as they only serve Americano / espresso... gets expensive after the 2nd or 3rd cup!

Went to Canteen most recently for our anniversary dinner. The service was excellent and the food was impeccable! We arrived early for our reservation but they managed to find us a table anyway.

Absolutely recommended for an special occasion dinner!

So, so. A good attempt at making interesting food with a "nouveax" touch but didn't quite make it. Tough, unflaorval beef, dry lamb shank.

The items on the menu are refreshingly different. My friend and I absolutely adored our meals. We had a reservation and the hostess acknowledged us right away. But there wasn't any communication from her until she took us in 15 minutes later. This WAS at the appointed time. We arrived early. There is no room to wait. We were standing right in front of the door and were constantly in the way of patrons coming and going. The restaurant was very loud. My friend and I could barely hear each other. The server was pleasant and knowledgeable. But it took forever for both our drinks and our bill to arrive. All in all - great food but lacking in ambiance and quality of service.

We're always pleased with the food and the service is always great.

Although the food was good the service was exceptionally slow but there was only one person serving and also acting as hostess. She remained very pleasant all evening.

Always a pleasure dining here. Menu offers great variety and it is always on point. I live in the neighbourhood and frequent this great establishment a few times a year. Keep up the great work.

Amazing in all aspects!

Went for brunch . Everyone’s food was great. Friendly and professional staff.

The portions have become ridiculously tiny. I'm not surprised the restaurant was empty. I don't mind paying higher prices but when you get an amuse bouche for the price of an entrée that's disappointing. never going back

The service was friendly and efficient and we all enjoyed the food. Plan to go back for happy hour and try a few more of the small plates and appetiZers

Canteen provided a wonderful atmosphere for our table of eight as we had an adult only evening (rare occurrence) to celebrate Christmas. The food was fantastic, the service was wonderful and overall we had a great time. I would highly recommend it for anyone, especially if you're willing to go a little out of the box.

I've heard great things about this restaurant, and I can see why. Our food was original but not to the point of being obscure, full of really great flavours, and the portion size was also more than ample. Unfortunately the restaurant suddenly filled quickly which made it VERY noisy, shattered the otherwise relaxed and enjoyable brunch we were having, and I think this sudden influx also threw the servers because we waited 10 minutes for our bill (despite several servers walking by our table several times), and ended up having to ask for it anyway. I would definitely go back but I would select a less popular time as I think that would minimize the noise a lot and resolve waiting at the end for the bill, too.

Food was good but not spectacular for the price. Menu selection was limited.
