About
This is our all time favorite restaurant in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. The food and gluten free options are awesome. It is family owned and it shows. The Canoe Chips are the best ever and they make incredible drinks as well. We always look forward to going!!! Love you guys!!!
We have been many times and maybe we were just there on an off night- The service was very mediocre, with the servers demonstrating a complete lack of interest. Anytime anything was brought to the table, the server had to ask who was having what. The baked haddock was served with approx. an inch of stuffing on top, and appeared to be anchored to the fish with 1/2 inch of mayonnaise- the most disgusting concoction I have ever experienced. Everyone else's meal was "just OK"
Here's hoping to better times in the future
This was our third visit to Canoe, and it never disappoints. We brought some friends this time, and they were impressed. Food was outstanding, service was great, fun and friendly staff/atmosphere. We sat downstairs this time and prefer upstairs, but overall fantastic!!! Will definitely be back!
Great selection for dining. Variety of people who had been eating all day and every one found a deliciously right sized portion. Waitress was an experienced professional who did a great job with a larger party. Perfect end to a reunion.
Been coming here for years and has always had the reputation of good food and good service.
We took 3 couples with us and while the food was good, it was not quite as good as in prior years. However, the service was terrible. This was not the waitress' fault. They were incredibly understaffed with no busperson to help the waitress service two large tables.
I said something to the management, but nothing improved .
I had another reservation two days later and cancelled.
Party of 9 all raved about their meals. Salmon was excellent but vegies included were cool. Only complaint would be that we wanted to order a birthday cake & couldn't. Had to order 9 slices of carrot cake. Yikes
Great get together with our adult grandkids. We all enyoy ed the food very much . Steaks were cooked perfectly and our server was always there when we needed something. Worth the 20 minute drive. Will definitely return.
Great place. Food is wonderful ful. Server s are warm and welcoming.
Mother's Day lunch. It was awesome
Celebrating another birthday with family , always great service and food. Thank god we didn't get asked to leave because we were so loud
Very nice meal with extended family - four of us had the swordfish special and it was exceptionally good; albeit the rice & sausage was a bit too spicy for a few members of our crowd. They should have mentioned that the sausage was spicy. But I liked it. It was a long drive for us to get there as we were on the other side of the lake, but it was worth it. Our local family we were visiting go there a few times a year and it was their recommendation. I am sure we will go there again sometime.
The last three times we have visited and had a reservation for 7 pm the prime rib was no longer available. We have been disappointed each time since this was the entrée option that was the reason for our choice of restaurant.
Food tastiness varied; roast chicken was good, but haddock fish and chips very heavy battered and tasteless fish. Meatloaf meal of Ok but when you got the mac and cheese (not the lobster mac and cheese) they didn't give you any green vegetable.
Average experience...nothing really. special. The view of the lake was through trees and not rally spectacular but the service was good and it was pleasant to be able to sit and talk with friends.
The restaurant was very quiet. We waited over an hour for our food and the waitress only came back when we flagged her down asking were our food was and could we order more drinks. We watched people come in after us be served their food long before us. We think she forgot us. We will not be returning.
Great food and service. We'll be back!
We love Canoe! Great food! We visit every year - my family looks forward to the Calamari. Highly recommend.
We have been enjoying Canoe since Scott opened it in the early 2000's. Quality & variety of food is always great . Weekly specials are a must try. We have gotten to know their outstanding wait staff & management team over the years, including Scott's parents who are very kind and inviting. Their Magic Food rewards are a bonus and we eat there every time we are at our NH home. Best of luck for many, many more years.
This was our first visit to Canoe this summer. We have enjoyed the food in the past. The meal we had was fair to poor. Two guests ordered lobster rolls and they were inedible. I ordered the tuna and the tempura asparagus was soggy. In the past at least they served a variety of vegetable tempura. This meal was expensive and unfortunately disappointing. Maybe the chef was having a difficult night.
3 couples dine out once a month. This month was the Canoe. We all ordered different food from the night's special hangar steak to steak tips to haddock and all meals arrived at the table hot and prepared to the degree of doneness requested for steaks. Alex our server was awesome and went with the flow of our kooky group. It was an extremely good evening of good, good friends and ambiance without the high price tag.
The website is very unclear when you make an open table reservation. I thought I was making the reservation for Bedford but it was made for the Laconia location. I feel the website should be changed to make it clear.
The restaurant was unattractive with lousy parking. The hostess was very unpleasant, didn't even smile or greet us when we arrived. The food was terrible. The Canoe Chips were kettle potato chips with blue cheese dressing and some green onions spinkled on top. If that's a signature dish, then it speaks volumes for how mediocre the food was! The wait person was rude and never checked on our table. It was truly one of the worst experiences at a restaurant in the Lakes Region we've had! And, we live here!
We eat here and always have a a great meal big enough to take home with whats left.! Callimare best of anywhere. Sam
Eight of us went out to eat and only one of us was happy with the meal (highly recommend the steaks tips) . Menu says add 3 shrimp for $6 and we only received 2 shrimp. Had to ask for the other shrimp. Those that added lobster bearly saw any lobster. The seafood stirfry listed items on the menu that were bot in the dish. The waitress was awesome even with all our complaints.
Had a very special dinner while on vacation. The Canoe was recommended by many locals. Food was very good. Prices reasonable and Amy our server did a great job. Had good old fashion selection that was perfect for dinner at the lake. Will be going back before the summer is over.
We were able to make reservations through Open Table for a Monday night There were seven in our group. It was a rainy night and the parking spaces were gone. So they had a shuttle for the drivers of the cars to take them to a different lot. This was perfect for us!! The table was ready for us immediately. The service was excellent. We ordered drinks, had wonderful meals and everyone was satisfied. Salmon, steak tips, NY strip sirloin, veggie burger, lobster mac n cheese and pork tenderloin - all with sides. Delicious!! Creme broulee and chocolate cake for dessert. Yummy!
I would make reservations through Open Table - so easy !
Noticed quality going down hill this year at the Winnipesaukee location. One of my family's favorites is the Mac & Cheese, quality of the dish has really fallen off. It is much better at the Canoe in Bedford NH. Veal parm dish also not as good as it once was. The Canoe bread has been cold and on a few occasions stale.
We (9) had a terrific meal at Canoe. A must have is the canoe chips along with the calamari which was hot & spicy to perfection. A few of us had the chicken parm, all good reviews. The pan seared swordfish special was perfectly cooked and pretty much devoured at the table. Of particular note was the iceberg wedge salad...I coulda had two of them it was so good but I wanted to save room for my meal. I had a chance to try my wife's baked haddock and it was flaky and delicious. We will be back for sure. Only criticism is the limited draft beer selection (2). With so many craft brews in the region, a few more taps would've been nice.
Everyone's meal was excellent. Portions were healthy but not overwhelming. Ambience was pleasant and relaxing.
We went here Saturday night since we were in Meredith for the Pond Hockey tournament. Had a party of 7-8 people. We were sat downstairs by a rude woman who come to find out looked like the manager with 4 other large parties between 10-16 people. It took over an hour and 15 minutes for our entrees to come out. We actually felt pretty bad for the waitress because she had so many tables to cover on her own. Tried to send an email twice to the restaurant because we never got checked in, so no points for open table reservation, and the email came back as an error. Not a fan of any of the restaurants in Meredith that we experienced this weekend.
We were delighted to go back to a summer favorite restaurant during the winter holiday week. The food, atmosphere and service were family and allergy friendly. Our teen boys had their burger and pasta choices and the rest of us had foodie delights without any pretentiousness, duck, mussels with a hint of Indian spice and scampi. And the drinks were spiced with whimsy giving them a party feel. It was a bit noisy but a winner nevertheless.
My family went to canoe for the first time on Dec 24. it was recommended to us by the hotel (Church Landing) and by others. The food -- particularly the NY strip and scallops were exceptional and the waitstaff were friendly and helpful.
A party of 6 seated on the lower level in the bar area. Only one other table on that level had guests. We were seated right next to a wait station in the path of the bar and the kitchen right under a speaker playing loud music that wasn't your typical low volume dining music. Due to the location of the table we constantly had wait staff bumping into us. Again we were the only other occupied table. The apps and drinks were good. The dinner was below average. The service was one of the worst I have experienced. It seemed as if the staff had someplace to go or something else to do. I will not be returning.
Party of 6. Five out of six loved their meals. One exception was the scallop special of the night. The scallops were to salty to injest. Our waitress took half off the price of the meal and offered a free dessert. Not bad. Overall great care was taken in creating each dish.
Menu choices were varied, though five of us chose the traditional turkey dinner. The turkey
was exceptionally moist and good. Apple pie was cold and would have been tastier if brought
to room temperature. Overall, dinner was delicious and each one of us plans to return.
The staff was friendly and accommodating, and, as one of us was in a wheelchair, it was easy
for him to get around the restaurant.
Canoe is a favorite local restaurant. Consistent quality. Great menu.
We've been visiting the lakes region for over a decade and haven't ventured into center harbor. So glad we did! Our party of 4 all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Hits were the sweet and sour calamari, lobster Mac and cheese, home made cheesecake and the olive oil w foccacia bread. Service was great. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. This place fills up fast.
Yummy food and ambiance - beautiful spot by the water. Treat yourself!!
I have dined at Canoe many times and the food is usually really good and there is always allot to choose from. The special on Friday was a steak with mushrooms. I was let down by the size and quality of the meat but will continue to patronize the restaurant.
We had lunch with a good size group for my mother in laws 80th birthday. The service was great, the food very yummy and the atmosphere was really nice and inviting. Great selection of food and everything was delicious. I had the Ahi tuna and calamari which were mouth watering! They have a great service for people who come by boat. They will pick you up at the docks. Had a wonderful lunch!
All 6 members of our party loved our meal. Best Rest in the lakes region area.
