About Canoe Restaurant and Bar
Critically acclaimed to be among Canada’s best restaurants, Canoe's unique location high atop the TD Bank Tower affords a breathtaking view of the city and Lake Ontario. The design, originally conceptualized by noted designers Yabu Pushelberg and most recently refreshed by Anacleto Design, is clean and simple, yet absolutely stylish - a brilliant reflection of Canada's rich raw environment. That same brilliance is captured through the flavours and textures of Chef John Horne's inspired regional Canadian cuisine. The menu showcases the freshest and finest Canadian fish, game and produce, as well as an outstanding selection of Canadian vintages. "All that is Canadian defines Canoe." Canoe Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
A very special dining experience. The presentation is amazing, service is great and the food tastes almost as good as it looks. Only problem was that I mentioned in my reservation that the occasion was for a birthday which they totally ignored! I thought that wasn't really nice on their part but the wine helped me forget! It was a near perfect experience otherwise.
We had the chef’s tasting menu. A MUST!
It was one of the best meals I have ever eaten.
The combination of flavors with the presentation blows your tastebuds and eyes. The service was impeccable as well.
Exceptional food and service! The view is not bad either.
With respect to the appetizers, stag tartare would of been better without the charcoal flavoring. As well, the Ontario buratta was lacking any sort of flavour. However, main courses and desserts were excellent. Service was exceptional which we appreciated. Phenomenal view.
The service was absolutely terrific. Amazing staff. Our server was very kind and helped us decide on a dish. However the food wasn’t our style, so the meal itself probably was the only downside to the restaurant. Everything else was a top knotch experience.
Very good food and nicely presented.
Waiter very friendly and helpful with explaining the dishes.
Price was expected for good food.
View very nice.
Could use some signs at bottom of floor in building to direct you to restaurant.
Maitre'd or hostess could have been more welcoming when we arrived.
Overall great experience.
Great view, good for the business crowd but an average meal.
Decided to check out Canoe after a 15 year hiatus. Unfortunately my experience was mediocre, average at best. Started out with the mushroom soup which was reminiscent of the soup I had at Malaparte recently and was delicious. Chose the Halibut as my main but my fish was chalky. The flavour was fine but had a very mushy consistency like cheap fish and chips. Ended the meal with an apple terrine which was alright but nothing exciting.
Canoe may have been at the forefront 15 years ago when there were much less options in Toronto to enjoy creative and seasonal dishes but now there are many great places from Richmond Stn to Alo and many in between dependent on your budget.
One of the best dining experiences we've ever had...anywhere in the world. We did the tasting menu with pairings which I highly recommend. Got to experience local food paired with Canadian wine, which was a treat being from the US. Our server, Stephen M., was spectacular. Took time to answer questions and was very engaging. The s'mores foie gras was wonderful as was the stag tartare. A must go to if you love good food...view didn't stink either.
There was nothing I ate that night that I would order again. Everything was just okay and dishes that were meant to be served hot were luke warm. I had high hopes and was looking forward to trying Canoe for years. I didn't live up. I left with the thought, I've had better and paid way less.
We had an amazing first experience together from start to finish. Service was impeccable and friendly. We brought our own bottle of wine and did the tasting menu. Each dish was unique and presentation artistic to go along with our amazing window seat. The only dish that wasn't as balanced as the others was the dessert which was a unique tarragon sorbet palette cleanser. Personally we'd both request another dish in substitution of this. In hindsight if we'd mixed it we would have appreciated it more.
Yesterday Dec 29 at night we went to this place for a private family occasion but despite reserving one month ago and reminding 24 hour ago one more time for a window table for three people they showed a table that I was facing service table. When I reminded my request waiter ignored. I sat for the sake of my wife and daughter. They watch you as a regular table customer only. Mushroom soup was poor, tea smoked duct breast was ok but not for $$$$. You can find much better taste somewhere else in Toronto. Meanwhile when you drop your coat they give you a number and when you give your number back while leaving despite it is a number they may not find your coat. Then you have to go back and look for your coat yourself. Unbelievable.
The expectation was high because of its reputation but the food was just ok. If they didn't have the view, I don't think they'd be as popular.
The lobster sandwich was unimpressive. Why would you grill the bread - which masked the taste and texture of the lobster. Maybe it's because it was skimpy on the lobster meat.
The mushroom soup and pasta special were tasty, albeit a bit on the heavy, oily side.
They try hard to provide excellent service. They were attentive for the most part, but the staff seemed uptight.
I noticed that they didn't change or clean the table mats. They just shook off the crumbs, set them aside while they cleaned the table, then placed them back on the table. They should at least wipe them down... you can't be sure if the previous person drooled or sneezed over the place mats.
We were disappointed this time. Restaurant decor has not changed for a while and looks too simple for the type of restaurant. We were surprised that the person who poured the wine, different from our server took the bootle to the side and tasted the wine himself, he said to see if it was in good condition. Never experienced something like it. We couldn’t finish the bottle, my husband and I both got headaches and we can tell it was the wine. We expected top quality at everything. Our server was fantastic though.
Everything was ok as usual otherwise we wouldn’t come back every year...but no mention or candle for our wedding anniversary was quite a surprise. I usually don’t give these things any importance but I noticed my wife was a little disappointed by not having anyone notice this (it was a note we wrote in our reso).
Nevertheless this still remains one of our top favorites of To.
Server was really good and most probably he wasn’t informed about our anniversary (even if usually ppl are asked if it’s a special occasion or something).
No harm though...just a little advice: be more careful about reso notes. Canoe can’t afford to lose points on such a little oversight.
Overall it was the quality of food was disappointing compared to my previous experiences eating here. The food was a bit too salty. The lamb was too dry. The bread was undercooked. The centre of the bread was raw and could be balled into dough ball. The service was great as always!
Took my friend’s young daughter (vegetarian) for lunch. View as always, very good, so was service. We had carrot soup - tasted a lot of butter, no carrot. She ordered the Egg Frittata, could not eat it - too much butter and oil. I ordered the lamb, which was fine, but very rich. It is a nice restaurant with good service.
At first it was a little disappointing to not be seated at the window, when we did put in a request for that. Luckily the food was outstanding and while we were waiting to be changed to a window table for dessert, we got an extra glass of (free) wine which made the wait a little more comfortable. Very happy how this was handled by the staff and we got the nice view in the end too. The food is very very good and an interesting combination of elements and tastes. Thank you for the wonderful experience.
From the moment we approached the restaurant the service was phenomenal. We had quick and courteous service, along with an amazing view from our seats. We order the tasting menu and every dish brought out was explained to us in detail and presented impeccably. I would highly recommend Canoe to anyone else!
Overpriced and overrated. Terrible service if you're not dropping stacks.
We arrived and the host staff were very friendly and helpful.
Once we were seated our server brought us water and when we told him we didn't want any drinks his face dropped and he left for over 10 minutes without returning. We could see him in the back chatting with his coworkers. A new table arrived a few minutes after us and the same server took their drink orders. They were having alcohol and we noticed an immediate change in the service compared to ours. Their drinks were brought to them within a couple minutes, he took their food orders and bread was even brought to their table before ours. All this took place without him returning to our table once. This place caters to the expense accounts of the many bankers that inhabit it, and if you're not going to be dropping big money then you're not going to get good service.
For starters we had the burrata and green bean salad to start which were lackluster. The green bean salad vinaigrette was tasty.
For dinner we had the pickeral and rib eye which were both quite tasty but overall not very memorable. The presentation was very delicate and visually pleasing.
Overall, forget this place. Outdated decor, ugly bathrooms, gross furry chairs and you're mostly surrounded by entitled, pretentious businessmen. The terrible service described above trumped all the other negative factors. Regardless of the somewhat tasty food, this restaurant left a bad taste in our mouth.
