About Canoe Restaurant and Bar
Critically acclaimed to be among Canada’s best restaurants, Canoe's unique location high atop the TD Bank Tower affords a breathtaking view of the city and Lake Ontario. The design, originally conceptualized by noted designers Yabu Pushelberg and most recently refreshed by Anacleto Design, is clean and simple, yet absolutely stylish - a brilliant reflection of Canada's rich raw environment. That same brilliance is captured through the flavours and textures of Chef John Horne's inspired regional Canadian cuisine. The menu showcases the freshest and finest Canadian fish, game and produce, as well as an outstanding selection of Canadian vintages. "All that is Canadian defines Canoe." Canoe Restaurant and Bar Ratings and Reviews
This may be an intimidating setting for some. Cost is going to be a concern for many locals. However this is a perfect place for a special occasion. Whether its a baby boomer or a Ryerson student trying to get by the choices are nothing short of elegant. We had th Halibut and the pork and the presentation is a work of art. The food is in accordance with the cost. The setting will provide a remarkable view and help you garner a sense of end day capitalism. Like versailles but at the begining of the end rather than the dystopian brutalism of a paradigm shift. This isn’t something that I personally enjoy but it was nice. Other restaurants of this calibre like to pack the burgeosie in so it can be loud and boistorous but here you can enjoy a meaningful connection. You don’t feel like you need to get trashed over the light radio friendly tunes of pop canadiana; grizzly bear, arcade fire. Its all very refined and appropriate. Safe. If there is anything you want to do its have desert; the screaching tarte au sucre was tremendous. Like a hagaan daz dulce de leche and a pumpkin pie mated but all the dominant delicious parts were dulce de leche. I’d come back to Canoe on that merit alone.
The table was ready about 5-10 minutes AFTER we arrived right on time for our reservation.
The food took quite a while to come out even though he lunch rush was dying down already... this was around 2.
Great food as always and amazing service.
Overall it was still a great meal.
Although the ambience, the view and the service are excelent, they don't compete with the lame quality of the food.
We were there for lunch during the week, ordered the gravlox appetizer, the chicken and the char. The salmon was OK but the other were so -so meaning the taste was blah. The sauce had almost no flavour and was slightly oversalted, which, for the prices charged, is unacceptable.
It is also a pity that the menu is so short, the restaurant was full enough to have a bigger variety.
We had tasting menu and it's a totally new experience to us. The food were special and the waiter provided detailed description. We enjoyed the food very well . The view was fantastic . The only thing was that our table was close to the bar and it was quite noisy.
I have always enjoyed dinning at Canoe. The food is always excellent, the service top notch and the view spectacular. One of the things I most enjoy is that the tables are far enough apart that it does afford you some sense of privacy as opposed to many restaurants in which you are very close to your neighbors. My only issue with this restaurant is the location. I took my car and parked below the TD tower. It usually takes me about 10 minutes to get there from my office. This time it took almost 50 minutes due to traffic. Now that King Street is closed to traffic, I took front and then Wellington to get there. Traffic was terrible and I didn’t see any construction. It appears that traffic that would have otherwise taken King is now moved over to front and probably Queen to the north. I will likely avoid downtown restaurants and shopping in future.
I brought my niece for her first visit to Canoe. She is a chef for a catering company so she was very excited to go. Canoe did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the view was gorgeous. She had the Stag and though it delicious.
Just spent four nights in Toronto, celebrating our 26th anniversary with a meal at a top restaurant every night. Canoe was the best. Heritage Pork was noteworthy. And mushroom lovers: the northern woods mushroom soup and side dish were both exceptional--among the best I've ever had. Our sever Michael had that unique combo of being super friendly and totally on top of it. And the view...well...go see for yourself. We'll be back.
A Toronto stalwart that fortunately has not let its standards slide over the years. Food and service are still top-notch; always imaginative and creative dishes from locally sourced ingredients! And the views are simply to die for as well. I will continue to visit Canoe for special occasions on a yearly basis.
The food was impeccably prepared with creative use of ingredients producing a unique flavor-able experience. The color combination of ingredients created a plate not only pleasing to the taste but sight. Spacing between courses allowed you to enjoy the flavors of each course along with enjoying the experience.
2nd time. Still great. My wife and I both had the mushroom soup. Not what I was anticipating but still delightful. It was very fresh and lighter than expected. The mushrooms used as a garnish were fantastic. I then had the stag and my wife the beef rib eye. The presentations were amazing and we both enjoyed the meal. Again for me it wasn't what I was anticipating as I thought the stag would be served with a hunter style sauce but instead it was a light and fruit filled dish with a mild smear of a fruit sauce. What I liked about the meal was that we were not over filled and his left plenty of room for dessert. The butter tart and rhubarb cheesecake. Coffee finished off the evening nicely. What I did miss this time was the simple surprise of sample dishes randomly being sent by the chef for our trial. I think that blew us out of the water the first time.
First time visit. Place was very busy and louder than expected but thinned out later on. Did the vegetarian tasting menu. Very interesting combinations. Very filling aswell. Nicely displayed dishes. Servers were very attentive. Good experience. Great City view at night.
This is our second time here and I was a little disappointed. Service was excellent but I didn’t enjoy my meal as much. I had the stag and I found it tough and I found there was too much fruit on the plate. My father had the halibut and said it was good but a little bland. Nothing was bad but it wasn’t as good as I expected from my last visit and for the price point
I was incredibly disappointed. We got there early to enjoy a drink at the bar. We felt like we were sitting at the airport lounge. We then moved to our dinner table which was nice. Great view! The mushroom soup tasted like mud. My partner' duck was Ok but cold. The waiter was very good. We will never go there again.
Nice ambience. Great service, from the greeter to the server. There's someone always fixing the napkin at my table if I happen to put it back on the table unfolded...that was quite an extra service. My wife didn't like the dessert that much, and was taken out of the bill...overall, great food. Will come back here again. Really liked the hot plate foie gras app and the steak for main was on point!! We got a table with a nice view as well...though hallways are a bit tight.
