Cannons Seafood Grill Ratings and Reviews
The bearnaise sauce on my wife's filet Oscar was cold. I had the macadamia nut crusted swordfish which was way too sweet and tasted like mushy fish wrapped with a cookie. The service was good the ambience is great but the food was definitely below Par. Filet itself was great but the sauce was cold.
Love Cannon's. We drive an hour each way to spend an evening here. Teh food is great and the service is excellent but the view is unsurpassed. Don't close this restaurant!! I don't want to go to those "trendy" places on PCH. I drive to the beach to see the water.
We wouldn’t recommend this restauraunt at all. When it came to their wine list they did not have what they said they had on the menu. And then tried to sell us their $35.00 wine ( the price $35. Was printed on the menu) for $75. We obviously said no thanks.
The food was brought to the table cold. We wont go back. Save your money skip this place.
Well beyond its prime. Unable to adapt to the times. The view must be amazing during the day but that would be the only draw for me. The menu is nothing spectacular and very expensive. The wines by the glass were poor quality, the box fan blowing like crazy seemed odd. The food we ordered was all over salted. I'm sure it used to be a spectacular place but that was many decades ago.
Where do I start? Cannons restaurant was hosting a wedding the night that we had our dinner. We were the only other table there and no one told me that there was a wedding! We were literally next to the whole reception. There was extremely loud music, people talking on a microphone.. exactly what happens at weddings. Cannons should NOT book other reservations when a huge event like that is going on.
Not to mention, this is not a nice place to go for dinner with adults . This is more of a restaurant that you take screaming kids... ( i.e. a Disney type vibe). I was embarrassed that I had booked this for a business dinner. The food is also mediocre at best. Big mistake!
Our party of four had a 7:15pm reservation, and we were surprised to see only a few tables filled upon arrival. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, the service was terrible, and the wait for our mediocre appetizers and entrees was absurdly long. We noticed our waitress standing around talking to other employees with her back to our table several times. Dirty plates weren't cleared, and we eventually had to ask a busser for our check. It was our out-of-town guests' last night in Dana Point. What a disappointing way to end their trip! The view of Dana Point Harbor is beautiful, but it was overshadowed by awful service and below-average food. There are plenty of restaurants with great views in SoCal - we won't be back to Cannons.
Great night out on our 31st anniversary. The food was outstanding, the view of the harbor was gorgeous, and our server, Milou was professional, personable and attentive. I don't believe any restaurant in this area can match Cannons for it's low key ambiance, quality and service.
Under cooked fillet, over cooked veggies & to much cheese sauce in scallop potatoes. Had to ask for the outside table to be wiped off. Waited to long for any attention from waitress. To much money for fillet oscar meal looking like this. The view & Bernaise sauce was FANTASTIC!T! We've been here for wife's birthday in April and everything was GREAT!
We celebrated our 48th anniversary at Cannons, our favorite restaurant in Dana Point and we were very disappointed to hear that it was being closed and a hotel built in it's place. We much prefer it to the Chart House both for food, value and ambiance. We know the ownership is the same but feel they are making a major mistake.

PS: We held the reception for our daughter's wedding in 2007 on your patio.
The steak and shrimp dinner was great. Sitting at the window overlooking the harbor, with the sculls and the sailboats and the coastal clouds drifting in - with good food and service - is a total experience. Unfortunately we were told last summer that Cannons was closing in December, and didn't find out until recently that it hadn't, or we'd have been there many more times before now! We consider it at the top of our list for a wonderful dining experience.
Two things are outstanding about the dining room in this restaurant. First, the view--truly hard to beat. Second, regardless of whether or not the restaurant is full, it always seems like its quiet enough to feel like you are having an intimate conversation with your spouse/date/friend/ or group you are with. I have loved this place for years. By the way, the servers are very attentive!
Service was horrible. We constantly had to flag down people to get help - take our order, drink refills and to pay the check. I ordered the "King Crab, Romaine & Avocado Salad" and it was very disappointing and not edible. Hardly any crab was included, worst part of the romaine lettuce was used/bitter (stem was in the bowl) and a ton of dressing. My friend had the fish and chips - more grease and fried batter than actual fish.
Good = View was fantastic. The Lobster Bisque was good.
